Editorial Review

Nothing lends itself better to portable gaming than the arcadeclassics. They're addictive, replayable, and fun--plus it's nice not tohave to pump endless streams of quarters into them. That's what makesNamco Museum such a must-have title for the Game Boy Advancesystem. People too young, or too impatient, to enjoy a good coin-op hadbetter stop reading now.

Like the PlayStation and N64 versions, Namco has packed a few of itsbest games onto the cartridge. For the GBA we get only five titles(four are listed on the front of the box, but Galaxian is alsoincluded). We have two versions of Ms. Pac-Man (one that showsthe whole maze but is dreadfully small, and another that scrolls),Galaga, Pole Position, and Dig Dug. They arelovingly ported, complete with all the music and sound effects intact. What we don't get is the amusing Museum portion and trivia found onother versions.

Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga are the real winners here. Bothare perfect renditions complete with all the extras (music, colors, sound effects, and bonus stages/cartoons). The controls on these twoare also perfect. Pole Position is amusing, but features twitchycontrols and pales in comparison to other GBA racing games.Galaxian, on the surface, seems the same as its sequel,Galaga, but it isn't. The fire rate is much slower, so the paceof the game is different. Galaga is certainly better, butGalaxian is a nice addition regardless. Dig Dug is aclassic, pure and simple, and it still plays well. It rounds out thecollection nicely.

Arcade fans, especially those who used to line up (or line theirquarters on the machine) to play these games, will be very pleased withNamco Museum. Those unimpressed with retro gaming probably won'tbe converted. However, here's hoping we see more arcade classics in thefuture, because I can't think of a better platform for these than theGame Boy Advance. --Andrew S. Bub

Pros:

  • Perfect recreations of arcade classics
  • A nice, diverse slate of games
  • Nice of them to include two versions of Ms. Pac-Man
Cons:
  • Pole Position isn't so hot anymore
  • No Museum features, such as trivia questions

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun,and a good game to start out with
The game is only $15 so if you do buy it, its not like your spending $30 for a game you wont like. I thought this game was really enjoyable, although i have played many games with far superior quality. The games are all pretty interesting and they all have their flaws, but when i learned that these games were invented so long ago, i cut them a little slack.I didnt "grow up" playing these games so its not a walk down memory lane for me, but they are still fun games. This was also the first game i got for gba and personaly i think its a good game to start out on, because the games are simple and easy to follow and the controls are relativly easy. Its especially good for kids who are not quite ready for hard and in-depth games yet.i also like the fact that its not just one classic game but 5.Pacman is my favorite game, but its a little hard to beat. There are two things that really get on my nerves about this game, one-you cant save any high scores,so there is absolutely nothing to beat in this game, and two-in galaga the screen is only half the size of the gameboy screen, they could have put the scores at the top and had the screen be double the size that it is.but overall this game is very fun when you just want a little something to keep you entertained.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nameco Museum
I bought this game thinking it was a cheap game. When i played it it brought memories of the arcade up-rites that they had at the Pavilion in Myrtle Beach in my younger days. The Ms Pac-Man was the best and Dig Dug was also. The other 3 games i plade on the arcades and on the artari 2600. This is quiet a bit of nastalgia. Hours of FUN and ENJOYMENY at a very reasonable price. Check out the other games that i have rated Donkey Kong Country 2 , Legend of Zelda. ALL ARE GOOD....ENJOY

if you like old arcade games like i do then you gotta get this game. it will entertain you for hours. it gives you a veriety of games to choose from so you dont get bored easly.ther is only on bad thing about this game on ms pacman. if you choose the full screeen its to little to even see and if you choose the larger screen it srolls when you go up and you cant always know if there will be a ghost when you go up but dont get me wrong this game rocks! you also get to choose how many lives you get for ms pacman. there is also alot of other options to choose from in the other games as well. its old school and it rocks! Tony Hawk 2

Editorial Review

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 doesn't look or play quite likeits other incarnations, but the amount of death-defying--or seriousinjury-defying--tricks you can pull off, and the wild level design, graphics, and responsive controls all work amazingly well for thehandheld.

With an overhead isometric view and its use of only four buttons, Hawkvets will need to readjust their attacks. Still, we were amazed by howmany tricks have been crammed into this cartridge. For the most part, the visuals are clear and detailed and the skaters are incredibly wellanimated.

Gameplay hasn't changed much. Initially, there are six levels available(more are unlocked as rewards). After picking a skater, you mustperform tricks and locate items to earn loot for buying new gear, whichwill enable you to improve your skater's stats and continue to the nextskate park. The game is sadly without some of the cooler features ofthe big consoles. For example, you cannot create parks or skaters, andmultiplay is sorely missed.

The feeling of accomplishment one gets when perfectly landing a stuntis just as satisfying on the GBA as it is on the PS One and Dreamcastversions. Even folks who don't like skateboarding games will thinkTony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is a great (and addictive) achievementfor the handheld platform. --Mark Brooks

Pros:

  • Incredibly fluid and detailed graphics
  • Responsive controls
  • Many, many tricks
Cons:
  • Somewhat steep learning curve for all gamers, even Tony Hawk vets
  • Missing features of older versions, such as player and parkcreation
  • No multiplayer feature

5-0 out of 5 stars Tony Hawk 2
Though Tony Hawk's Pro Skater isn't new to the handheld market (it's been ported to the Game Boy Color in original and sequel forms), GBA developer Vicarious Visions has performed a stunning, overwhelmingly impressive job with a portable rendition of one of the best console games produced this decade. Though the game had to be scaled back for the system to handle, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on the Game Boy Advance is a true testament to the capabilities of the hardware, mirroring the outstanding gameplay of the original console design. Of all the titles that were produced for the Game Boy Advance's US launch, this game is the top of the heap...and it will most likely remain there for the rest of the year. Good? Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is great.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is a fantastic game, and the Game Boy Advance version is no exception. It's one of those games where you can pop in, play a round for a few minutes before putting it away...which makes it perfect on the handheld. The Game Boy Advance version is also a technical marvel, providing the first true polygonal game on the system

Tony Hawk hit the jackpot when he and Activision Software Company came out with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. The sequel to the game was an even bigger hit, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2.The second game was different in some ways. There are more objectives to accomplish in order to get to the next level. The game has new features like new skaters and Park Editor.I played the game and beat within a couple of days.Every time I play the game I figure out something new, like hidden areas, different tricks, and how to score more points. It helped me when I was skateboarding in real life.I learned new tricks through seeing how they perform them.I would recommend this game to anyone who is a skateboarder or is thinking about skateboarding. If your just looking for a cool game, this is it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining
There are few games that can hold my attention for long. Though I agree that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for Gameboy Advance is easy, I'm inexplicably addicted to it. The puzzles are not particularly challenging, per se, but it makes you feel good when you can actually SOLVE them at all, unlike other games where you're stumped for days.

It's an easy, lighthearted game that's good for passing your time with -- and the graphics make great eyecandy too.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Video Game (08 June, 2001)
list price: $39.99

Editorial Review

One of the best side-scrolling game franchises makes a successful debuton the Game Boy Advance in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. This timearound you follow the adventures of Nathan Graves as he attempts to stop therecently resurrected Dracula. In the fine tradition of Castlevania vampirehunters, Graves carries a whip as his primary weapon, and will soon discover thetraditional secondary weapons of holy water, dagger, boomerang, time freeze, andmore. New to the series is the dual set-up system (DSS), which allows you to use20 cards (randomly found) for up to 80 power-ups.

The game plays like a side-scrolling classic without seeming too dated. Playerstraipse around a nonlinear dungeon, defeat monsters, and unlock new parts of thedungeon, often through the use of new abilities. It's similar to the excellentCastlevania: Symphony of the Night for the PlayStation, with the obviousaural limitations of a cartridge-based handheld system.

Unfortunately, the game's dark graphics are difficult to see on the Game BoyAdvance's fickle screen. Long sessions require consistent overhead lighting, sothis isn't the ideal game for travel. The animations are also lacking, makingcharacter movement appear jerky. Despite these graphics shortcomings, thisside-scrolling wonder makes a fine addition to your GBA library. --Raymond M.Padilla

Pros:

  • Classic gameplay
  • High replay value
  • Great sound for a handheld game
Cons:
  • Dark graphics are butchered by the GBA screen
  • Mediocre animation

5-0 out of 5 stars Challenging and dark Castlevania game.
This game is just plain old fun. Its very challenging, unlike most other new Castlevania games, and really gets you into the adventure.

The special items you can obtain all make the game more interesting and the magic and card system just plain rocks.
You can change your whip into fire/ice whips, get magical swords and even summon a dozen monsters to help you.
The card system is what really makes this game shine.

Pick this game up if you really want a fun and exciting dark adventure, but be warned that this game requires a bit of skill to get through as it very tough.

5-0 out of 5 stars The First GBA CV Game Remains, Arguably, Its Best
"Castlevania: Circle of the Moon" (CotM) was one of the first games to be released for the Game Boy Advance.Borrowing elements from the unexpected hit, "Symphony of the Night," K.C.E.K. (the Konami division responsible for the N64 Castlevania games) has created a familiar, yet still totally enjoyable, Castlevania game, and arguably the best of the 3 for the Gameboy Advance (the other two being "Harmony of Dissonance" and "Aria of Sorrow").

Story: Castlevania has a rich history when analyzed deeply beyond the games; though, the actual storylines in the games take a backseat to other elements.CotM sets up a plot in the beginning, has bits and pieces interspersed after major events in the game, and resolves it all in the end.The year is 1830.Rather than having Dracula resurrect naturally, a dark priestess named Carmilla resurrects him pre-maturely, and seeks the full-regeneration of the Dark Lord's powers by using the life essence of a captured vampire hunter, Morris Baldwin. His two disciples, Hugh Baldwin (the son of Morris) and Nathan Graves, are given the task of saving their master, and destroying the Count, too.You take the role of Nathan Graves, and will meet up with several characters in your adventure through the Castle. The storyline is nothing deep or engrossing, but, it's definitely far from horrible, and decently entertaining.
~ 7.0/10

Gameplay: Wonderful. It's kind of like SotN, but with a whip, though still not as silky-smooth.The controls allow you to change direction while whipping in mid-air, too.Nathan doesn't have any fancy moves like "Juste-dash" to get around faster, but you can double tap the d-pad to make him run once obtaining the specific item, and this is more than adequate.Nathan can spin his whip around when the attack button is held down to deflect projectiles and do quick damage. Also going along with SotN, you will obtain certain relics while progressing through the Castle, which help you explore new areas.Items include the "Tackle," which allows you to smash through stone blocks, and the "Roc's Feather," which lets you perform a Moon-Jump (this was introduced in SotN).CotM is also the innovator for the "Gameplay Gimmicks" in the recent Castlevania games, such as AoS's Tactical Soul system.CotM's is called the DSS, where certain enemies will drop cards (either Action or Attribute cards), twenty in all, and you can combine them to create different effects. For example, combining the Mars and Mandragora cards lets you use a huge sword that shoots out a cloud of poisonous roses for extra range, while also increasing your attack power. You can also create a small rotating set of flames around your body to ward off attacks, make your whip double its reach, and much, much more. All in all, I would say it's the smartest of any of the systems used in any Castlevania.Almost nothing is useless, and has its own advantages, unlike AoS's myriad of pointless souls, and "Lament of Innocence"'s and "Harmony of Dissonance"'s number of useless attacks.Like the other "Castleroids," you'll collect armor and accessories to equip on your character. Most of the equipment is quite useful, and almost all (except for one certain armor) are dropped by enemies to make collecting them harder and more rewarding.Healing items are rare, and there is no merchant this time around, forcing the player to rely on his/her wit and skill, rather than copious amount of potions and such, making the game a lot more challenging and, consequently, fun.
~ 9.25/10

Level Design: The best out of the three GBA titles. There is a huge emphasis on platforming in this game.Rather than making the main challenge be getting past enemies, like in games such as AoS and HoD, CotM also forces you to battle with your environment. To be sure, there are loads of tight spots, like the Machine Tower's layout, with its constantly moving platforms and electrically charged ceilings, and most noticably in the last area, the Observatory Tower (made even harder, considering the the abundance of super enemies). Most of the rooms are completely different in their layout, and this gives the game a fresh feeling throughout, since you are constantly presented with unexpected challenges. There is the occasional puzzle, such as the Underground Waterway's switches, or the box puzzles in the Underground Warehouse. It's very nice that the game makes you think beyond, "How do I kill this next enemy?", and I hope this amount of level interactivity is reproduced more often in future Castlevania games.
~ 9.5/10

Graphics: Though not as flashy and detail-filled as AoS, CotM exudes its own certain charm, reminiscent of Super Castlevania 4.Whereas HoD and AoS seemed to feel more contained and small, CotM is full of huge rooms and corridors, chock full of grand expanses of spooky skies, spires, and dark, towering pillars. While being pretty basic in terms of the "Ooh-Aah" factor, CotM has plenty of superb atmosphere that comes from its well-realized dark nature in its dark color composition and abundance of gothic architecture.Multi-scrolling in the backgrounds is minimal, and I wish the developers had spent more time on this to create more of a sense of dimension, but what is here I found to be particularly intriguing and more than adequate.Pack a GBA SP or DS, though, when you play this, as playing it on the GBA renders the graphics too dark to see.Nathan's sprite could have used more frames of animation, but his animation is decent and, for the most part, believable.I found the enemies in this game to be especially charming. You won't find multi-segmented beasts like HoD's Living Armors, or stunningly weird denizens like AoS's Stolas, but, rather, beasts that seem to be more realistic and organic, with its anthropomorphic creatures like the Were-jaguars and Fox Archers, or the humanoid bunches of armored knights.None of them will really blow you away graphically, but I found them all to be interesting and fun to see in action. They, too, though, could have stood to have more frames of animation. The special effects in CotM are nice, concerning the use of your DSS cards to create new attacks. There are all sorts of fun things, like the giant hammer, or flaming sword.Again, they all get the job done, but are nothing incredible.
~ 8.25/10

Sound: This is one of the high points of CotM.It's made all the more incredible by the fact that this was one of the first-gen games for the GBA.Quality-wise, it's on par with some of the highest quality soundtracks on the SNES; compositional-wise, it's on par with some of the highest quality soundtracks for video games, period.Rather than follow the trend of most Castlevanias and introduce totally new soundtracks, with perhaps one of two older tunes remixed, CotM opts for having a majority of its music be comprised of some of the greatest Castlevania tunes, masterfully redone, and interspersing it with a few new powerful melodies that will not soon be forgotten. The start-up screen's song is very well done, taken straight from the PC's Japan-only Dracula X.The ghostly vocals will send chills down your back. The first area's music, "Awake," is one of the most memorable and impressive songs to ever be in a Castlevania; I'd rank it among the likes of "Dracula's Castle" and "Vampire Killer."It's no wonder the music in this game is so great, as the composer of Castlevania 4, Sotaro Tojima, is the composer for this one, too.Repeat performances include "Clockwork Mansion," which has an oddly psychadelic feel to it, "The Sinking Old Sanctuary," which is more upbeat this time around, and "Aquarius," another incomparable classic of the CV series. Then, there are new ones, like, as mentioned, "Awake," along with the heart-pounding final battle theme, "Proof of Blood," and one of the greatest ending songs for a Castlevania, "Repose of Souls."As far as sound effects are concerned, they're pretty minimal.Enemies generally are totally silent, and most of the sounds you'll be hearing are the yells and grunts of Nathan as he performs certain moves.More attention should have paid in this department of the sound. However, this is overlooked quite easily, as CotM is one of the best musical experiences on the GBA, if not THE best.
~ Music: 9.5/10
~ Sound Effects: 6.5/10

Replay Value: I've played through this game three times so far.The average player will probably find enough in this game to at least come back for a second helping, eventually. There usually are rooms you might have missed your first time through that you'll find your second or third romp through. And there are additional modes, such as "Magician, Mode" (which will allow you to start the game with higher magic power, but have your other stats lowered), helping to make the experiences of playing through multiple times more varied.Sadly, there is no "Hard" mode, which would have been a truly wonderful addition. The game will probably take a person familiar with the map a little more than 6 hours to beat (while also getting 100% of the map); however, for a first-timer, it will most likely take them ten or more hours.
~ 8.75/10

Satisfaction Value: CotM is also an extremely satisfying game.It makes you feel truly good about accomplishing certain things in it, such as beating a particularly tricky boss, or finding an item in a hidden spot.Like the "Metroid" series, CotM's satisfaction comes from the journey itself and the discoveries along the way, not the conclusion of everything...and what an engrossing and memorable journey it is.
~ 9.5/10

"Circle of the Moon" is a fitting end to K.C.E.K.'s Castlevania games, and remains one of the highest points of the series.Displaying near perfect controls, difficulty progression, atmosphere, sound, and more, it's one of the best games you can get for any hand-held system, and easily holds its own in this year, and will continue to do so.Konami's people are geniuses when it comes to creating instantly classic games.

~ Total (not an average): 9.5/10

3-0 out of 5 stars To Buy... Or Not To Buy.... That is the Question
This game if not very a very good single player. The graphics are somewhat like Mario Cart Super Circuit but just do not seem as good. The tracks seem intersting and maybe if the person buying it was younger(6-10 years old) and liked Shrek more... maybe they would enjoy this game more than the older gamers (11-14 years old... Its price is reasonable but it the racers are tiny and are sometimes difficult to see without squinting. This toy is not very educational because all it shows you is how to handle a GBA... Also ALL GBA Games are durable (they do not break as easy) so that is why i gave it 5 StArs-*~ Overall I did not really like this game but it is your own choice. It basically depends on the audience.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun Multiplayer, mediocre single player
Let me begin by saying description of this game being only 1 and 2 player is wrong. I have played this game with 4 of my friends, and the multiplayer modes are a lot of fun (Knight's Tournament, and Parfait Getaway more so than Race). It is ashame that the single player mode was not as good. However, there are some interesting levels. If I were younger, I probably would have enjoyed this game a bit more. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Dance Beat
I found this game heavily reduced on the bottom shelf of a GBA display. I was desperate to find a new game to play and looked at the box and was pretty impressed with what i saw. Being such a huge fan of the Idol game which i cannot seem to find any where in this country, the Britney game appeared to be along the same lines.
When i played it I was happy with the game, the music was good (if you were a britney spears fan) and the graphics were satisfactory. I did get value for money but wouldn't have been quite so happy if it had been full price.
The game is pretty much a button masher and would not please hard core gamers. If you are intereted in such a game, i would reccomend Idol unless Dance Beat is reduced.
The game is good but not great

I'll have to say, I was pretty excited when I found this game on clearance for $8.If I would've paid any more for it, I would've been highly disappointed.

Enthralled with my newest Britney purchase (being a big Brit fan myself), I instantly unwrapped it and began to play.

This game is somewhat like DDR, and doesn't get too complex until the last three songs of the practice stage (where you get to mix arrows with the a and b buttons).Concert stages are pretty decent and good for a little complexity.

The concept of this game is good, that's why DDR is such a huge hit, the game concept. However, the actual game play is not for those are not big fans of Britney or those who mind playing some boring rounds in order to score pics, puzzles and a video clip of Ms. Spears.

The worst part about this game has to be that it doesn't save - you have to write down passwords. The great part about this game is that even though you have to write down passwords, you really don't have to write them down because it is quick and easy to pass most of the first rounds, no sweat.

4-0 out of 5 stars listen up all you britney spears fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is a really cool game.
if you are not a britney fan then dont
by this.i truly can fly right past the practice mode
but the concert mode is extremly hard.
it also has britney photos and puzzles.
the photos are really cool but the puzzle were not.
i am really quite fond of this game.
there is 1 or 2 down falls but other than that it is great.
buy this game all you britney fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Real cool!
This game is really fun. But when I say short I mean short and this game is the shortest game I've ever played. But it is really cool. You have the choice of the sword orscimatars.I love the way bad guys come to fight you in groups. But there s only six levels and it cost [a lot] Still a great game and highly recomened it.

4-0 out of 5 stars plain old conan fun
Do to the horrible playstation mummy games, i thought this game would [stink]. But to my suprise i liked it. I very much liked the movie because it reminded me of conan. A tall savage running around killing people. That is what this game dilivers. The wepons in the game are not to be reasend with. If you enjoyed the movie you will love the game. If you ever wanted to be conan look-a-like but couldn't stand the old nintendo game then this is the game for you.

This game is the worst game there can be the graphics are horible and the game play it just stinks dont get this game.

1-0 out of 5 stars WHAT WERE THEY THINKING
Nfl blitz 2003 is the worst game boy advance game i have ever played. For starters, the graphics are awful. You cannot really tell that tell the football players from the football. Also, the game is very shakey, you cant really tell whats happening. I have the other fallowing games: Lord of the Rings the two towers, Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets, RAinbow six rogue spear, bomberman max blue version, advance wars, castlevania circle of the moon, MLB high heat 2002, and as you know, nfl blitz 2003. 4-0 out of 5 stars The Defender
Defender is a game where you protect Planet Earth with hi-tech jets, lasers, and missiles. If you're looking for a classic that's challenging this is the game for you.Its a bit confusing at first then you get the hang of it.My dad said it is similiar to the one they had when he was a kid but the graphics are way cooler. The thimg that makes it better is its just like at a arcade if you use your weapons you can't have them back,if you die you have to reastart all the way at the very beginning!!

Like other "updated" Defenders this is garbage. Anyone who played the Jaguar Defender knows what I'm talking about.

Editorial Review

If you're still suffering the lingering effects of Pac-Man fever, you'llbe excited to hear that Namco's Pac-Man Collection repackages theinfectious original with three other Pac-Man-themed games in a new anthology forthe Game Boy Advance.

Pac-Man Collection contains the original Pac-Man, plusPac-Attack, PacMania 3D, and the never-before-seen-out-of-the-arcadePac-Man Arrangement game. Pac-Man plays like you remember, andlike Namco Museums's picture perfect re-creation of Ms. Pac-Man,it features spot-on control, graphics, cartoon cutscenes, sound effects, and, best of all, music from the coin-op (who can forget that opening theme?). Assuch, it's easily the best of this collection.

PacMania 3D is basically a 3-D version of the original, and is just aboutas uninspired now as when it came out. Pac-Attack is a cool variation onsuch puzzlers as Tetris and Columns, and as such it's perfect forhandheld gaming. Pac-Man Arrangement is an odd little game that playsmuch like the original but adds weird power-ups that, for example, make yougigantic.

Because Pac-Man Collection is a perfectly emulated package, there isn'tmuch to gripe about, save that Ms. Pac-Man is a far, far better game thanthe original, and you'll have to shell out more money if you want that one. Butfor retro gamers on the go who also want to track down ghosts and eat powerpills, this package is sure to sate your hunger. --Andrew S. Bub

Pros:

  • Perfect graphics and sound
  • Perfect controls
  • Pac-Attack is a fun Tetris variant
Cons:
  • It's missing the best Pac game, Ms. Pac-Man
  • Pac-Man Arrangement and PacMania 3D aren't really great games

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Cool Fun, But not a classic
I bought this game when it dropped in price.I had to have one more item with the SLC Olympic Logo on it, I was a volunteer during these games. The game has a good representation of some of the sports played, graphics where decent but not memorable.I think it would be a great sports title for someone who has never played one, young or old.For the hardcore fan, I would maybe pick this up only if you have pride for TEAM USA!!!But for the rest of us it had the thrill to keep me jumping off that K-120 hill for a couple of days.

Editorial Review

This title offers four Midway arcade classics for one price. The games are as you remember them: In Joust, you ride a flying ostrich and try to defeat other mounted knights by bumping them from above. Clear the screen of enemies, then move on to faster and tougher enemies. In Robotron, you run around on a playing field attempting to clear the screen of evil enemy Robotrons, all the while trying to save the last human family. Defender has you trying to eliminate all the alien forces in each stage while defending the lives of the humans scattered across the surface. In Sinistar, you battle unseen enemy drones who are building the ultimate evil--the Sinistar. Sinistar can only be stopped by bombs you make out of space crystals. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Flaws aside good retro value!
Okay ... I agree with some reviews here.SINISTAR is a mess - you really can't control your ship too well with it constantly thrusting, ROBOTRON is a lacking in that you can't fire in a direction you are not moving, JOUST fares pretty well but again some control issues, and DEFENDER is hard to see even on the well lit SP screen.

But it is nice to see these 80s classics in any form.I spent tons of quarters on these games back then, and they are hard to find now.The Gameboy has the power to do them justice.Shame that the controls are not perfect, but still worth a look!

1-0 out of 5 stars Sinistar is broken!
... I wanted Sinistar! The ship won't stop thrusting. I'ts like playing a broken arcade machine. AAAGGHH! The game's only plus is that this Defender works. The new GBA Defender is messed up just like Sinistar. Both these games were put out unfinished!

1-0 out of 5 stars Stinks
This is absolutely the worst arcade translation I've ever seen. Defender, Sinistar, Robotron, and Joust are great arcade games, and have been faithfully reproduced on other platforms, but this sad attempt bears little resemblance to the real things. That might be okay if the games in this implementation were playable on their own terms, but they're not. Defender/Joust for Gameboy Color is much better than this pathetic garbage. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2 is the first GBA fightinggame, and that's a lot of weight to carry on one's muscular andwell-rounded shoulders. But Midway's baby has already been a hit on severalsystems; it's merged boxing with hilarity and featured wild characterssuch as Afro Thunder, Mama Tua, and more--all outfitted with powermoves and special taunts.

The GBA version looks good. It features loads of color, and everythingfrom the taunts to Michael Buffer's famous "Lets get ready to rumble"tagline is intact. Unfortunately, the gameplay isn't. Ready toRumble 2 for the GBA is a 2-D fighting game, not a 3-D title likethe earlier versions. You can move forward and backward, block, andpunch. Move while punching and deliver an uppercut or a short jab. There's almost no sense of damage as you hit these poorly animatedfoes, and this takes all the personality out of the game.

There are 11 characters total, some favorites from the original gamesand two new unlockable ones, including Michael Buffer as Rumble Man(yawn) and... Michael Jackson? There are four modes of play: arcadestyle, championship, training, and survival (where you've got to fighteach opponent until you go down flat). You can create your own boxer ifyou like, and participate in a few training rituals, such as usingrumble pads, lifting weights, and hitting the speed bag.

What Ready to Rumble 2 amounts to is a perfectly good, andgreat-looking, Game Boy Color game, but it doesn't do justice toboxing. It isn't nearly as good as Ready to Rumble on otherplatforms, and it just doesn't fit in with the other, mostly fantastic,GBA launch titles. --Andrew S. Bub

3-0 out of 5 stars A must for Stoogies only
I'm a Knucklehead/Stoogie, so I bought the game.I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else though. It gets boring REAL Fast, and the mini games that you have to play are pretty easy.Of course, this is a re-issue of an old game.If you liked the old game, you're sure to like this. But if you're not after nostalgia for that old game, or a die hard knucklehead, you should SOITENLY skip it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disapointing and not fun.
I bought this a year or so ago at Costco because I love the Three Stooges (and I'm female!) and I love cartoons (John K creator of Ren & Stimpy is a huge fan of the Stooges as well) and I needed some more games for my fairly new GBA. It isn't fun. You have to play several different mini games a bunch of times, and they are very difficult and not even fun, hardly even mildly entertaining. You have to raise $5000 in a month for the orphans, I was lucky if I ever got up to $500 after a frustrating 20 minutes till the game was already over. I'll be trading mine in at Gamestop next week.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another CinemaWare Re-release
This is another game from the old CinemaWare collection that was originally for the Amiga, Apple IIgs, PC, etc. I originally played the PC and Apple versions.

This GBA cartridge is an exact port of that old game. You play the part of Moe, Larry, and Curly as they try to raise money to save an orphange. Money is earned by playing a series of mini-games.

For the most part, the game play is as easy as the older versions except for the oyster eating contest. That part is much easier with a mouse than a control pad, but I still played it decently on my GBA.

I love seeing these older games re-released for new systems. The cartridge should hold up much better than my diskettes. Plus, you don't have to worry about system requirements. I don't know what the market for these retro games is like, but I'd like to see more old computer games released like this one. Most of my old favorites would need a keyboard so a GBA version would be unlikely (like the old Sierra Space Quest, King's Quest, and Leisure Suit Larry series), but it might be possible for a console. ...
