5-0 out of 5 stars What a Jump!
Wow! A Zelda on a 16 bit system? That's what I said at first when I found out that a new game in the series was coming to the SNES, and what a surprise it was! Those of us who have been with Link since the old school days of "The Legend of Zelda" really appreciated this one when it came out. The graphics were intense the plot was deep, and there were so many new things to find. A person could immerse themselves in this game for hours and even days on end without stopping to eat, sleep, or use the bathroom (yes that was me, well almost). I remeber the countless hours I spent finding heart containers, weapons, and other things in this game, along with all of the good memories that it brought as well. The dungeons seemed immense and endless with the multiple floors that were introduced in this game, and continued throughout the series. I highly recommend this game, and as with everyone else that fell in love with the Zelda series this game is one of my most prized games and I will hold in my collection as long as I live.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Link to the Past: Games don't get better than this!
This is, by far, the best adventure-based video game of all time. Sure, the graphics aren't 3-dimensional, but the game was released for Super Nintendo twelve years ago! What do you expect? The plot is as follows (don't worry, I won't spoil everything):
Princess Zelda is trapped somewhere in a deep dungeon, and talks to a young boy named Link through his dreams. She is asking him for help...But where is she? Link's uncle rushes out into the stormy night and to Hyrule Castle, and Link secretly follows, but only to find his uncle lying on the ground in the castle! This is only the beginning of the adventure...
In this game, there's action, adventure, and awesome revelations! Collect cool equipment such as the legendary Master Sword, meet new friends and enemies along the way,and even find a sinister, parallel world...
Please don't miss out on this game!

5-0 out of 5 stars An instant classic
Zelda LTP is one of the best games ever made. The plot is superb in every way. The level desighn is off the chart. This game truly deserves some credit. I was so addictive to this game when I first got it which was round 1996. The Game was simply a masterpiece. The controls for the snes was good I really had fun with it acctually.

If you're looking for a classic to find and buy Go and buy this...Trust me this is a classic...The game doesn't cotst much either.

Editorial Review

Zombies, an old mansion, and limited ammo. What more could you want? Resident Evil: Director's Cut plunges you into the world of B-grade zombie flicks, and does a first-class job of it. From the cheesy dialogue and voice acting to the confusing camera angles, you'll jump and squirm through a series of mind-numbing puzzles and heart-pounding attacks. The trick is: conserve your ammo, and learn to run.

The game is interspersed with movie-style cut scenes that all too often annoy rather than elucidate. The gist of the story is this: you and your special forces teammates have come to investigate the disappearance of the last team, and you have no idea what you're getting into. You spend the rest of the game trying to find your way out of the mansion in which you're trapped. The bottom line: If you like zombie flicks, buy it, play it, love it. And the best part--try blowing the zombie dogs' heads off with the bazooka. --John Cocking

Pros:

  • Scary sound, camera angles, horror-movie action
  • Sense of dread, dropping ammo count
  • Zombies
Cons:
  • Horrible dialogue
  • Back-tracking for puzzles
  • The bazooka won't blow open a door

4-0 out of 5 stars A bit tricky at times, but well worth the bloodshed.
This Director's Cut is the only version of this game you should own, simply because it supports the Analogue joysticks on the Playstation controller. The control in the other versions is impossible at times, and a bugger to learn if you are a first time player.

The game by itself is excellent. Lot's of puzzles, and lots of Zombies to shoot down. There are times (many of them, actually) where you much be careful how many zombies you shoot, because you can run low on bullets very quickly. The story is standard for any Survival Horror game: A group of soldiers are locked in an old mansion that is infested with zombies. An evil company has eperimented with a chemical that turns people into zombies, and the fallout turns the WHOLE TOWN into zombies. To survive, you must make your way through the mansion, and solve all the puzzles. This is definitely a challenge, and one that can be frustrating at times, but rewarding once completed.

Here are the pros. The graphics are superb. The detailing of the zombies and the surroundings give you are real sense of dread, and yes, the blood flow is well detailed, it sprays when you are wounded. The music is ominous and ambient, giving just the right mood to the situations you come across. The story is also well put together, even though anyone who has seen George Romero's "Living Dead" trilogy (and what horror fan hasn't?) can get a sense of deja vu. All these elements make this a game well worth getting.

Now for the cons. This game is not the toughest game for the Playstation, but it can be darn frustrating when you get stuck. Sometimes, a puzzle is very tricky and requires you to back-track just to see if you missed anything. This adds much more time to the game, but not in a good way. There is also the frustration of running low on bullets when there are three zombies coming towards you. Each zombie requires about three bullets each to finish them off, but bullets are so scarce that you must conserve. Also, the acting and dialogue is so hammy that it is comical, and you feel compelled to just skip through it so you can get back to killing zombies.

Overall, this is a great game with a few shortcomings. But then again, nothing is perfect. If the Survival Horror concept sounds appealing, then you should check this one out. The "Resident Evil" series has become the benchmark of Survival Horror much like "Final Fantasy" has for the RPG genre.

5-0 out of 5 stars resident evil is freaky but fun!
i give resident evil directors cut a 5 star game. i love the puzzles that are very hard, but fun. for kids that are under 17 u might want to try this but might not. if u can take blood and gore then i would try it, if u can't don't! i haven't tried resident evil 2 or 3 but i heard that their a lot harder and funner. zombies around every corner and in closets make u scared somtimes to even go in the room. i guess the zombies, dogs, and bosses give resident evil directors cut it's name. the eerie music and sounds of the doors opening give a nice touch. u can actully tell if there is something to kill in each room. (sometimes) for all who haven't tried resident evil directors cut i recommened that u do!

4-0 out of 5 stars Bathrooms are cool, but the toilets don't work.
I started my Playstation One video game playing with Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare. After this, so many people have recommended Resident Evil to me, I can not remember all that was said and read. So I moved on to Resident Evil: Director's Cut (Dual Shock). Basically, this has only two characters, male and female, to play with. Three levels to try per character: Beginner, Original and Arrange. You are in a mansion, so many rooms to go into, you are looking for any items, some items you pick up fit somewhere else. You are fighting biohazard zombies. The dog through the window bit happened so suddenly my heart jumped (I think I leaked some water too). You fight more bloody dogs, spiders (bigger than New York) and snakes. What I dislike is having to go back and forth. You have to go back into the mansion and go in some of the rooms again. It gets boring after a while. Through the Mansion, into the garden, empty the water, into a lab, into an underground house, back to the mansion again, enter room with a snake in the fireplace, jump down to rock tunnels with emergency balls (fun like Indiana Jones), up to a fountain that opens up, down into a compound of labs and emergency rooms. Using the Umbrella computer to open up level B2 and B3 was really cool. The bathrooms were cool, but you can't use the toilet (bummer). That would have been funny if a character did use the toilet. Would that be an "A" rating for a game?
I could not buy a strategy guide (which I highly recommend for any adventure game), but thanks to all those hints, clues and walkthroughs printed on the web, I got through the game finally! I also highly recommend "Codebreaker" from Pelican Accessories which will help you pre-set your game playing to pre-set cheats with a memory card. You can also type in your own cheat codes found on codebreaker.com to use on your Codebreaker.
Resident Evil: Director's Cut (Dual Shock) only has two stories, but three different ways to play. So six games in all, plus one "secret" Arrange game when you hold "down" button for three seconds. "Arrange" turns green for easiest mode. "Dual Shock" versions require a special Dual Shock Analog Controller. "Dual Shock" makes your Analog Controller vibrate and shake in your hands when you encounter a monster or danger is just around the corner. Sometimes it will vibrate just for the fun of it. "Dual Shock" sure does enhance a game and makes your hands feel good after long playing.
I just saw the film "Resident Evil" which is mostly based upon the video game "Resident Evil 2". Soon I will receive the video game "Resident Evil 2" for Playstation One (PS One).
Please see my Listmania List of "Resident Evil Video Games and Movies". The second film: RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE will premiere September 10, 2004. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Mario Kart 64, one of the first games released for the Nintendo 64platform, is an updated translation of the very popular Super Mario Kart for theSuper NES (SNES). And while the game clearly takes full advantage of the graphicspower and speed of the N64, a few components that made the original so compellinghave been left out of this release.

Still, Nintendo's expertise at sucking players into the game world is strongly evident, andMario Kart 64 offers enough challenges to keep players (especially casualgamers) entertained. Placing a familiar Nintendo personality behind the wheel of asputtering kart powered by a 50, 100, or 150-cc engine, the game lets players racecomputerized opponents or up to four other players on a variety of well-designed tracks.Because karts lack the power and speed of race cars, drivers must focus on collectingpower-ups and nonlethal weapons rather than negotiating hairpin turns on two wheels.Grabbing and using on-track items is the heart of the game's fun: a strategically-placedbanana peel sends the unlucky victim into a spin, nailing an opponent with a turtle shelllaunches their vehicle skyward, and a rocket provides a quick boost to near-breakneckspeeds, if only for a moment.

The multiplayer mode provides enormously chaotic fun for up to four players--flip it onat a party and watch the guests congregate around the screen. --Eric Twelker

Pros:

  • Well-designed tracks
  • Simple controls
  • Strong multiplayer appeal

  • Computerized opponents sometimes pull off questionable feats

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT GRAPHICS, SOUNDS, and FUN!
This game is great. It's the best racing game I've ever played. It features 16 race tracks: LUIGI RACEWAY, MOO MOO FARM, KOOPA BEACH, KALIMARI DESERT, TOAD'S TURNPIKE, FRAPPE SNOWLAND, CHOCO MOUNTAIN, MARIO RACEWAY, WARIO'S STADIUM, SHERBET LAND, ROYAL RACEWAY, BOWSER'S CASTLE, DK'S JUNGLE PARKWAY, YOSHI 'S VALLEY, BANSHEE BOARDWALK, and RAINBOW ROAD. And all the tracks are divided into cups: MUSHROOM, FLOWER, STAR, and SPECIAL CUP. Each course features twists, turns, shortcuts, and beautifully crafted graphics, and each level has power crystals that give you an array of weapons from banans to shells. And there are 8 characters to choose from: PEACH, TOAD, YOSHI, MARIO, LUIGI, WARIO, BOWSER, and DONKEY KONG.

The game consists of racing through dazzling locations with great music and sound effects, and fighting your way through twists and turns and weapons to get first place. It never gets boring. This game has high replay standards. It's the best game. It even features a battle mode than can be played with up to four players! The battle mode contains four special levels where you must destroy your enemy three times to win. THIS GAME IS THE BEST! OUT OF FIVE STARS, THIS GETS 20. GREAT GAME!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best racing games on the N64
Mario Kart 64, the sequel to the first Mario Kart game on the SNES is great. Nintendo got rid of some of the things that made the SNES title so much fun, but added a lot too. The gameplay is much more enhanced, the characters look much better and the individual go-karts are very realistic.

Like the SNES version, this game includes 3 modes of play: GP (Grand Prix), Battle, and Time Trial. In GP you choose one of 8 characters: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Wario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Bowser in a large variety of courses in the Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup Star Cup, or Special Cup (which you unlike by getting gold trophies in each of the 3 basic courses) in 50cc, 100cc, or 150cc mode. 50cc is the easiest, but in 100cc and 150cc the computer gets much faster and more challenging. There are several items you can collect by driving through the question mark boxes which help you during each race. Lightning bolts (the rarest item to get) makes all of the other opponents small, mushrooms give you a speed burst, banana peels make one of your opponents crash if they slip on it, red shells are used to shoot directly at an opponent to get them off course, and green shells keep bouncing off the walls until it hits one of the racers. Unlike the SNES Mairo Kart game, there are several objects you need to avoid to stay on course. In different races there are trucks and cars that will make you crash if you hit them, snowmen that will blow up if you hit them, and many other obstacles in different courses.

In Battle mode you and up to 3 others choose one of the 8 characters. You drive around a course trying to pop each other's 3 balloons. You can pop their balloons by shooting red or green shells at them or throwing banana peels at them to make them slip. You can also use the other items to avoid being hit by them. Once all of your balloons are popped you become a bomb which you can drive around the course trying to run in to the other players. This mode is a lot of fun, especially if you get tired of continually playing Grand Prix mode.

In Time Trial mode you race in any of 15+ courses and try to set records for each lap and/or race.

The controls for Mario Kart 64 are very simple and easy to master, and the music and sound effects are great as well.

If you want a great racing game for your N64, I highly recommend that you check out Mario Kart 64.

4-0 out of 5 stars 1st place game!!
Mario kart is an awesome game. Even though it can be sometimes hard to see with the not so good graphics this game offers tons of fun. There are sixteen tracks each different and fun. There are alot of awesome owerups and a good variety of characters to choose from. There is stratagy in how you start and to come in firsts you must use you're skills. The variety in this game is awesome. You can race anywhere from a twisting track called Choco Mountain to Dk's jungle and even race in Bowsers castle! There are other tracks like Rainbow road and one of my favorites, Sherbet land!

But I was dissaointed that I actually didn't know how to win the game on single player mode. Even though it's quite simple. Come in first throughout the entire cup. (There are four cups in the game). But other times it appears as if Peach get's all of the good powerups! Like triple red shells! But besides this I love the game... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Almost as much fun as the first one
It's too bad Konami never released an arcade-perfect version of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game on the SNES. Actually this one isn't a perfect translation either, as it's missing some digitized voices. A playable April wouldn't have hurt either, but at least she doesn't get kidnapped.
Anywho, although the title may be (sic) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, that's only because there were three TMNT games previously released on the original Nintendo Entertainment System (not counting Tournament Fighters). This is actually the second game released in the arcades.
Now for the actual review. The game takes you through, uh, I dunno, 15-or-so levels of repetitive non-stop action (double entendre? you decide). As usual, you get to choose between Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael (sorry, Venus, you weren't here yet). The subtitle, Turtles in Time, comes into play when you almost defeat Shredder and then are hurled back through time to 100,000,000,000,000-or-so B.C., then forward to 15??, 18??, 20??, 2???, then back to 1993 where you fight Shredder for supposedly the last time. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best TMNT game ever made!
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles In Time" has always been one of my favorite Super Nintendo games. If you've ever liked the earlier TMNT games for the regular Nintendo, or TMNT 2 in the arcades, you'll definitely like "Turtles In Time." The object of the game is to eventually get to the Technodrome and defeat Shredder. There are a lot of challenging and fun levels that you'll have to get past before you even get close to Shredder. The levels range from a dinosaur level where the foot soldiers ride stampeding dinosaurs and try to run over you, to a level where you're inside a train and you have to battle a boss in the form of a crocodile, and even some fun bonus levels.

"Turtles In Time" is a great game in every way. You can defeat most of the enemies with punches, kicks, jump kicks, powerup moves, and my favorite, by throwing them at the screen. At the end of every level are some familiar bosses such as Krang, Rocksteady, and Shredder, and even some new bosses that have never been seen before in any other TMNT game. The graphics in "Turtles In Time" are impressive and colorful, the sound and music goes good with the levels, the control is top notch, and best of all, it's one of the most fun games available for the Super Nintendo.

You can play "Turtles In Time" either one player or two player, either way it's jammed with fun. The game overall isn't too easy or impossibly hard, it's perfect when it comes to the challenge. Even after you beat the game, it's still a lot of fun to start over and beat it again or play 2 player. Even after playing the game for over 5 years, I still like playing it every now and then. If you have a Super Nintendo and if you like action/adventure games or side scrolling fighting games, "Turtles In Time" is a must have!

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the Arcade version!
I can't help all u people saying that this is a perfect translaion from second TMNT Arcade game from Konami! This is very, but not totally, different. Here is why ---

*The Arcade has no Technodrome as scene 4. You just skip right to Prehistoric Turtlesaurus after Sewer Surfin'. I hated this, The Technodrome is my favorite level.

*There is no Bepob, Rocksteady or Slash in the Arcade. And they made up some new characters.

*Plus there are a lot of other small differences.

Overall, its a good translation from the Arcade, and is the best game for SNES! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The game that started the SNES's glorious run
When the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES for short) first came out in the early 90's, it had a great lineup of launch titles to easily make it the new best seller. Super Mario World was the first, and probably the best of these launch titles for the SNES.

Just like Mario and Luigi did for the Super Mario Brothers titles on the NES, they are still collecting tons of gold coins, Bowser is still their biggest enemy, and the Princess is waiting to be rescued once again. Only this time around, their journey along the way to Bowser and the Princess will be a bit different.

There are many new experiences to be held in Super Mario World. This is the game where the Mario clan first meets and uses Yoshi, the worlds and levels are bigger than ever, and the Mario brothers even have new abilities such as new flying techniques.

Super Mario World is more like Super Mario Brothers 3 than any of the previous Mario adventures. You can play by yourself in a one-player game, or with a friend in a two-player game at any time. You can guide either Mario or Luigi through the 7 different world maps that are full of different kinds of memorable levels.

Among these levels are haunted ghost houses, underwater environments, underground stages, a secret "Star Road," various other secret stages, a castle (one in each world) that houses the world's main Koopa boss, and so much more.

For the time, Super Mario World had spectacular graphics, great sounds and music, top-notch control, and overflowing replay value and fun. It's easy for any player of any age to find out what needs to be done once they start playing this 2D action/adventure. All you really have to do is get past all the interesting enemies and get to the end of all the levels.

All in all, Super Mario World is one of the best video games ever made, and it always will be! It's the game that started the Super Nintendo on the right foot, and now, it's a major classic. I wish they still made video games like this.

If you're a fan of action/adventure games, platformers, or the classic 2D side scrollers (which I miss more than anything in today's games), Super Mario World is a definite must have!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Amazing Classic Kart Racer Game
One word:classic.Super Mario Kart Has been a favorite game to me since it came out. With different modes like Time Trial and Mario GP (Grand Prix)It easily became the favorite game for America to play. You can choose from eight characters:Mario,Luigi,Princess,Bowser,Toad,Yoshi,Koopa Troopa and Donkey Kong Jr.My personal favorite was Luigi. In Time Trial you can pick races in the Star cup the Flower cup or the Mushroom Cup.Also in the GP you can choose from those cups. There is three modes to race in for the Grand Prix:50cc,100cc and 150cc but you unlock 150cc by beating the game. When you get trophys for beating 100cc you will get a secret cup.Dont be fooled the secret cup is very hard. When you get first place in the secret cup you will beat the game and unlock 150cc.Then once you beat 150cc only then will you be the greatest master of Super Mario Kart.So to end a long story the game is pure classic fun.

3-0 out of 5 stars I am going to start off by saying, "I looooove Mario!"
I mean, what Nintendo gamefreak doesn't?!?!? I've grown up with his games and continue to support Nintendo, however, I will start to right this review.

Beware, I will be brutally HONEST about this game. Super Mario Kart, as you should know, is Mario's debut in a racing game. He along with Peach, Luigi, Yoshi, DK Jr., Bowser, Koopa and Toad, will race to the finish line.

This game is very fun if you are playing with another player say for instance, in battle. I honestly found that to be the funnest part of the game. However, being me, (note I don't have the game, I've played it several times though) I usually am stuck playing a game by myself because my little bro doesn't play with me and my older bro usually doesn't have any taste whatsoever in gaming like I do! It [is too bad] but that's life. Sorry about giving you a little TOO much backround but, I indeed had a point. That point is playing alone is fun too, but the CPU AI is quite unbelievable and may leave you trying over and over to beat the Star Cup (if you can even get there), or wanting to break the damn game.

Overall, it's an approachable game, BUT i warn you now, if you are looking for a easier racing game, don't bother with this one!

3-0 out of 5 stars fun as a 2-player game
BOY was Super Mario Kart talked about by just about everyone when it first hit the shelves. "Mario is now racing! Along with all his friends!"

Let's move forward to the year 2004. Is it still good? Yes, but on 2-player mode only. I think the 2-player battle mode (where you defeat your opponent by hitting them with turtle shells) is still quite fun. But, I don't see any of my high school friends anymore, so I'm all alone now. And as a 1-player game, Super Mario Kart doesn't give me much satisfaction anymore. Too many awesome racing games have come out since Super Mario Kart, including the newer Super Mario Kart on the Gamecube.

However, this game was pretty fun when I was younger. And it's still probably a total blast on 2-player. But if you have no one to play this game with... you better not get it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It Don't Get Much Better Than This
When rumours of new 32-bit consoles were becoming a reality many fans began to forget about the Snes, that was of course until the release of 'Donkey Kong Country'. A game so ahead of it's time that at it's first E3 showing many reporters mistook it for a N64 game.

With a revolutionary graphics engine and fantastic gameplay to boot, 'Dkc' took the gaming world by storm and indeed acted as the final nail in the Megadrives coffin. Also notable is that this was the first 'Big hit' from gaming giants Rare who would follow with the classics 'Goldeneye' and 'Perfect Dark'.

Another important point is that this game 'is' completely without flaws, the rendering is perfect and the games music is one of the best soundtracks ever recorded. In technical retrospect 'Dkc' is a 2d sidescroller with a 3d graphics overhaul, in English any fan of platformers should not be without this inspirational classic.

'Donkey Kong Country' was also the largest ever cartridge at the time carrying a massive (at the time) 32mb, and 'til this very day the game remains a classic. If you still have a Snes or your a retro gaming fan like myself you should pick this up as soon as possible.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Top 5 Games of all time!
Play this and remember it was made in 1994 look at the graphics! Donkey Kong Country shocked the world in 1994 with its revoulutionary garphics, but also shocked it with its gameplay sound...just about everything! Even today the graphics are still better than some of new Playstation games. If you like gorillas, or just like video games youll love playing as Donkey and Diddy. Your not a true video game fan if you donrt like Donkey Kong Country. Also play the 2 sequels which are both excellent. Get it immediatley if you dont have it!

5-0 out of 5 stars SNES AT IT'S BEST!
Donkey kong country is one of the coolest games I have ever played...I played this awhile ago...Back when SNES just came out and I happend to buy this game...Well acctually my dad got it for me as a gift...This game was off the hook.

The gameplay was original. Same with characters and eveything.
The lengh of the game was great...Not too long but great...
The controls were easy to use...learn in about, what...4 minutes.

DKC was probably the best DK game ever..

If you like DKC then get the second one..It's got all the same of 1 but with some some new stuff mixed with it...This is a GREAT game!

Get it if you're an SNES fan such as myself...Get it if you can find it...

5-0 out of 5 stars The revolution continues!
Donkey Kong Country. Few games have made the impact on the video game market that one did. Who would've thought that a 16-bit console would be able to generate beautiful, fully-rendered, two-and-a-half dimension graphics? And, just one year later, Rare whipped out a sequel! Read on to see how it measures up.

Graphics: 5/5
In a word - beautiful. The best graphics on the Super Nintendo, period! The only other games that looked this good on the system were the other games in the series and the ones that used this technology. This puts the old Super FX chip to shame. Hell, this game looks better than most early 32-bit games!

Play Control: 4.25/5
It takes a little getting used to at first, controlling the characters, but you adjust to it fast. Diddy is slightly more powerful than Dixie, but she can use a "lunar descent" technique with her hair. Likewise, each character can throw the other into hidden areas. If you've got both characters, you can switch between them. There are also animals you can ride, on which the controls are very basic.

Challenge: 4.25/5
It's a tougher game than its predecessor, and like that title, it becomes annoying when a save point isn't anywhere near you. There are hidden bonus stages in every level, and a side quest is to complete them all, and use the coins you find there to unlock a lost world. That's the REAL challenge. In all, you must uncover 102% of the hidden areas.

Theme/Fun: 4.5/5
It's a great game, plain and simple. Easy to learn, highly addictive, and just plain fun. Enough said.

Storyline: 3/5
Donkey Kong's gets kidnapped by King K. Rool and is being held prisoner aboard his flying craft. Diddy and Dixie set out to rescue him. Simple storyline; it's as old as video games.

Music: 4.5/5
It's very rare the music in a game is so good a soundtrack is made for it, but this is one of those instances.

Overall: 4.25/5
It's a gaming revolution. Who would've thought such beautiful graphics could come from a 16-bit system? Only Nintendo and Rare could pull it off. If you've got an SNES, this is well worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars DONKEY KONG COUNTRY 2 DIDDY'S KONG QUEST
WELL,WHEN I FIRST SAW THE GAME ON TV IN HALF OF 1994 AND WHEN 1995 CAME I THOUGHT MAYBE I'LL LIKE THIS GAME IT MIGHT BE CHALLENGING TO ME SO WHEN I CAME HOME FROM SCHOOL I SAID TOO MY SISTER SO UM DID YOU RENT DONKEY KONG COUNTRY 2 AND SHE SAID NO AND I ASK HER AGAIN AND WHEN I WENT IN TO MY ROOM WHERE THE GAME WAS AND WHEN I LOOK DOWN ON THE FLOOR I SAW IT AND I WAS SURPRISED AT THAT GAME SO AND I WAS LIKE HOW DID YOU GET HERE AND HERE'S DONKEY KONG COUNTRY HERE TO AND YOUR HERE NICE TOO MEET YOU DONKEY KONG COUNTRY 2 AND SO WHEN WE PLAYED IT IT LOOKED INTERESTING AND PIRATEY TO ME AND WE BEAT SOME OF THE LEVELS LIKE UM USUALLY LEVELS WE GO TO IS 1-2-3 AND SOMETIMES LEVEL 4 AND WHEN I PLAYED IT IN 1996 IT SEEMS THAT I WENT TO LEVEL 5 AND IT WAS HARD AND THE N LEVEL 6 AND LEVEL 7 AND FINAL SHOWDOWN WITH KAPTAIN KING ROOL AND THEN I FINISHED THE GAME IN MY 6TH GRADE YEAR AND LEVEL 8 GOT SOME OF IT DONE TOO SO IT WAS INTERESING TOO.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's hard to believe that this is only 16 bit
For a 16 bit game, this rocks. Interesting set of characters, phenominal graphics, and outstanding music once again proves why the SNES is one of the all time greatest systems. As in controls this title utilizes every button available (9 total) to unleash incredible combos that makes this the fighting game to own.
That is not to say that this game doesn't have it's flaws. For example the difficulty is set (even on easy) to where a casual gamer just can't pick this up and play. The training mode is lackluster, and combos are difficult to pull off. Also despite how cool the music is, it doesn't always fit the area your fighing in. However overall it works just fine.
Looking at characters there is a nice variety. You have cyborgs, ninjas, assassins, mutants, aliens, lycanthropies, and even a skeleton (who has the funniest ending). No move is duplicated, each has their own set of specials and combos. However the finishing taunt (won't spoil it) is a little dumb, and the finishers are OK at best.
In the end Killer Instinct is a nice game to purchase, it will take a lot of practice to beat the final boss but it is so worth it if you win.

2-0 out of 5 stars Gotta be the most overhyped game on the SNES
In the nineties, fighting games became extremely popular due to the successes of the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat franchises. Even the British Rare corporation, best known for the highly advanced graphic work they had used in games like Donkey Kong Country, wanted to try their hand at making one. And in the mid nineties, Killer Instinct arrived. How does it measure up? Read on and find out.

PROS:
-GRAPHICALLY, THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST LOOKING GAMES ON THE SUPER NINTENDO. The advanced graphic stylings that worked wonders on games like Donkey Kong Country work very well here.
-THE GAME HAS AN INTERESTING CAST OF CHARACTERS. Let's see. We've got a boxer, a skeleton, a werewolf, and even a robot, plus many more. The cast of characters is one of the game's strengths.
-EACH CHARACTER HAS HIS OR HER OWN SPECIAL MOVES. No two characters pay exactly alike.
-EACH CHARACTER HAS A FINISHING MOVE. Some of these are actually pretty interesting (Orchid's is particularly humorous.)

CONS:
-THE GAME IS HORRIBLY UNORIGINAL. The six-button fighting scheme is ripped off from Street Fighter, and the fatalities are ripped of from Mortal Kombat. And honestly, how many rip-offs of these two games do we need?
-THE CONTROL SEEMS WEAK WHEN COMPARED TO THE TWO GAMES THIS ONE RIPS OFF. Because of this, the controls come off seeming unfinished in their performance.
-LIFE BARS DON'T REGENERATE BETWEEN ROUNDS. In other words, the battles will go completely onesided, and a comeback is virtually impossible if you're getting massacred.

OVERALL:
Steer clear of this game. If you want good fighting games, stick with the two franchises that this game ripped off. This was an interesting venture for Rare - it just wasn't a very good game.

5-0 out of 5 stars No other fighter comes close.
First of all, I mean no other fighting game matches this one in replay value, due to insane combos (of which there are many different variations), great "No Mercy" (finishing) moves and a great cast of characters. I was a fan from the moment I played it for the first time, and 10 years later it is still without a doubt my favorite game of all-time. Do not be mistaken though, I am not saying all of the other fighters out there are bad(Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat are also 5 star fighters), but when Killer Instinct hit the arcades there was nothing like it, at least in my opinion. The graphics were beautiful, the combos were amazing and it seemed like an all around original game.

Other reviewers might have you believe this game rips off the others, but nothing could be further from the truth. Sure, they all share similarities, but Killer Instinct was the first to develop this complex combo system, consisting of linkers, auto-doubles and enders, not to mention the ULTRA combo. To me the ULTRA is the greatest concept of all-time as far as fighting games are concerned. It is a move performed at the end of a combo that adds many more hits to give a great-looking combo to finish off your opponent. There are also combo breakers to stop your opponent from performing a combo on you. So by now you should be able to understand that this game takes a LOT of practice to get good at. Learning the combo theory, mastering each character's moves and getting comfortable with each character's style is hard work, but with enough practice will be rewarding once you know your stuff. There are 8 great characters to choose from, each with their own background level, and depending on the location you can knock your opponent off of buildings. It has pretty decent music to boot, giving a great game experience--in my opinion one of the best games you could own for the Super NES. So if you are a fan of fighting games or own a Super NES, try this one out. You can find it for very cheap these days, so it is definately worth picking up if you see it around. You will either hate this game and never want to play it again, or you will be hooked instantly and develop an addiction to the style this game presents. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best SNES games ever
Many of you are familiar with the first ever Mario game on Nintendo and Super Mario World on Super Nintendo. For those of you who have never played Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, you definitely should. Nintendo changed this game a lot form the previous version, but didn't ruin the amount of fun it provides.

In Yoshi's Island you are Yoshi and you go through the levels with Baby Mario sitting on your back. If you get hit by an enemy then you lose Baby Mario and he starts to cry, but you have 10 seconds to get him back. If the timer runs down to zero, he is kidnapped and you lose a life. As Yoshi you can "eat" the enemies and they become eggs which you can shoot at other enemies and at bonus clouds that hold coins, stars or flowers. Every red coin that you get that is hidden throughout each stage it worth one point to your score. Each star you collect adds one second to your timer. And each flower gives you 10 points. If you collect all 5 flowers in a stage you get an extra life, similar to collecting the Yoshi coins in the first Super Mario World. You can earn up to 100 points for each level (50 for all the flowers, 30 for all the red coins, and 20 for all the stars). If you get 100 points for each level in the game, you can unlock secret levels that are really awesome!

There are many stages in this game. In all, there are 48 levels in the whole game, only half as many as the original Super Mario World game. After you beat each stage you jump into a hoop and a light starts going around the hoop. If it lands on a flower you get to play a bonus game, if not you just advance to the next stage. It takes a while to get used to this game if you are a veteran Super Mario World player because this game is so much different than it. If you own a Super Nintendo and don't own this game yet, go to your nearest used video game store and buy it, you won't regret it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The one that started it all...
In the early nineties Capcom released Street Fighter II. Surprisingly the game had a number of sequels, but rather than full sequels they were basically just rehashes of previous games. Surprisingly this style worked pretty well. Read on to see why this game is so cool.

Graphics: 4/5
VERY good for a Super Nintendo title. The graphics of the arcade are reproduced excellently.

Play Control: N/A
All Street Fighter titles have adjustable control.

Challenge: N/A
Street Fighter titles feature adjustable difficulty. However, you get a better ending on higher difficulties, and a worse one on lower difficulties.

Theme/Fun: 3/5
Street Fighter is the game that revolutionized one-on-one fighting games. Below is a list of the Street Fighter II titles, and the improvements each one made on its predecessor.
-Street Fighter II: The first one
-Street Fighter II Champion Edition: Basically the same game, but players can be the same character (accordingly each character has two costumes), and you can play as the "bosses".
-Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting: Once again, basically the same as the previous game. However, this game features a secondary costume for each character different from the one in the last game, and you can use the Turbo function to make the action must faster. Some characters have new attacks.
-Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers: This game is like the last ones, but features improved graphics, music, sound, and just about everything else. There are four new characters. Some characters have new attacks. However, it's lacking the Turbo mode. Each character has a phenomenal EIGHT costumes, and his or her own voice actor!
-Super Street Fighter II Turbo: Basically the same as the last game but with the Turbo option back. Some characters have new default costumes and attacks.

Storyline: 2.5/5
Basically fight to become the world's fighting champion. It's a horribly dated story, but the gameplay makes up for it.

Sound/Music: 3.5/5
Most sounds and tunes are mediocre, but a few, mainly the one in Vega's stage, stand out.

Overall: 4/5
This is an excellent fighting game for the Super Nintendo. However, if you only get one Super Nintendo Street Fighter title, I would make it Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good game, but not the best Street Fighter
I've always liked the Street Fighter games a lot. A few years ago, one of my friends gave me Street Fighter II for the Super Nintendo, and it's good in most ways. The graphics and backgrounds were good for the time, the control is responsive, and it has cool sounds, sound effects, and music. The fighting in the game with the regular moves such as the punches and kicks, and the special moves such as the fireballs, Blanka's electricity, the fast kicks, etc. make this game a lot of fun. But it's not the best Street Fighter game ever made. In fact, it's not even the best of the Street Fighter II games. My only complaint is that it's a real slow fighting game. If you like fighting games, I would recommend getting Street Fighter II, but I would recommend one of the faster Street Fighter games such as Street Fighter II Turbo, which is the same as this game, but A LOT faster.

5-0 out of 5 stars COOL! By Legoalas
WOW!This game is AWESOME! The characters are cool plus some unplayable bosses :-(. There is a very hard boss called M. Bison he can be impossible to beat some times. My favorite charactar is Zangief he's real cool, and you can get perfects more often
:-). Oh, yeah, and Amazon.com says Street Fighter II is rated "T" it's not rated anything! You see this game was made in 1991, and there was no ESRB back then. Finaly the full titleis: Street Fighter II:The World Warrior!. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still the best
This landmark FPS has likely owned more of my life than any other single activity, no exaggeration. Of all the Dooms currently in full release, this is my favorite. It's larger, it's harder, it's eviller, and it's got more lovable carnage than you can shake a chainsaw at.

During the peak of the Doom craze in the mid/late 90s, I was part of that group of hopeless addicts who lived and breathed Doom day in and day out, loving it all the way (at least until I developed chronic headaches and had to give it up). What gives Doom 2 such a charm for me? Well, it has everything the first game has, except possibly the "classic" feel that still sends me back to the original on occasion. Now, some have complained that not enough new things were added to this game. I have decided, however, that the real important change is in the style of level design. They are more maze-like, they are much more difficult, and the puzzles are more complex. And, as the later levels attest, they are much, much weirder. For the level-builders among us, the new triggers and the higher 256-linedef visibility limit allows us more possibility for design than the original. The super-shotgun is a fantastic edition, allowing the player to economize bullets when facing enemies such as the demon/specter and the chaingun zombie. Some of the added enemies are rather annoying, such as the Revenant, the Pain Elemental, and the menacing Arch-Vile, who may be the most dangerous enemy in all of Doom. And then there's John Romero's head and the now-famous backwards announcement that greets players as they come upon the huge demon face in level 30...

After Doom 2, the flood of FPS's looking to capitalize on the craze traded in long-term gameplay value for nice-looking graphics and a few bells and whistles here and there. (A true heir would not appear until Half-life.) Doom, obviously, is very primitive compared to what we have today. But it has stood the test of time better than any other shooter, unquestionably. Years later, it's less about winning the game than it is about the sheer fun of shooting up a roomful of monsters. There's something undeniably pleasurable about the primal act of pulling a trigger and blowing away a demonspawn. Doom speaks to the animal within you. Therein lies its true worth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Here is why people have still been playing it since 1995
The original Doom was such and incredible first person shooter they had to make a totally new 32 level Doom with lots more monsters, such as the Chain Gunner, the Pain Elemental, the Arch Vile and others, but still the same old weapons and graphics. My second point is the fact that they are still selling Doom 2, they are no longer selling the original Doom except for in a bundle. So since 1995 and the game is still around and selling strong, must mean something! So what is Doom 2? In Doom 2 you are a soldier just coming off of a mission in space (Doom 1), so you must return to planet Earth only to discover it has been taken over and then from there go into the heart of it all, Hades and destroy the monster behind it all. The levels are incredibly detailed with 100s of new wall textures, where you actually believe you are in a city slum overrun by monsters, and you go to the lair of the monsters to destroy the big bad bosses. With that being said, why are people still playing it? Because Doom 2 is the surface beneath it all is a whole community that supports Doom 2 by creating new levels, some easy and simple, others 64 levels of pure pain continuing the saga or starting a new saga, with new enemies, new wall textures and fun. There are even expansion packs sold with 1000s of new levels to keep you playing forever beyond the original Doom 2!

5-0 out of 5 stars Doom 2 Forever. and Ever.
This game has changed the world. Before Doom 2 obviously was Doom. The game has introduced the FPS, or first person shooter. I myself have the doom collectors edition. It includes doom, doom 2, and Final Doom(TNT and the plutonia Experiment). Doom, however, is very old(over 10!) and doom 2 is turning 10 this year. Well, anyway, before my closing comment, i'd like to say this game is robably going to last for 10 more years(including Doom 3) until we are all writing on how legendary Doom 3 was and how it is all old. Aging is never a problem with games, its just if they are updated or not. Doom and Doom 2 were updated, with WADs, as you can create your own levels, episodes, and even games(such as final doom). My closing statement is:

I seem to be having a problem with my Doom Collectors Edition. The way the weapon is positioned in the game isnt right. It seems to have sunk lower, and if i get rid of the bottom dashboard, then it returns to the position it should of been while i had the dashboard up. I dont know how to position the screen. ...
