Rainbow Six Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (18 January, 2000) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review As first-person shooters go, Rainbow Six is to Dreamcast what GoldenEye 007is to the Nintendo 64: the most innovative and intriguing title of its kind for the platform. Borrowed fromTom Clancy's novel of the same name, Rainbow Six offers a fascinating first-person adventurethrough lush worlds and highly detailed environments that have yet to be seen on gaming consoles. Butdon't stop to smell the roses too often or you'll end up staring down the business end of an oncomingStinger missile. You command an elite antiterrorism force through a series of stealth and action missions. Sometimes youwill need to sneak through a foreign embassy in the dark with your night vision goggles on, while othertimes you'll need to launch a full-on weapons attack on your enemies. The game does both types ofmissions well, but you'll have to spend some time planning with your team before you start each level.Plotting out missions in advance and positioning team members lends a unique real-time strategy feel to thealready excellent shooter aspect of the game. As the team leader, you are solely responsible for making sure each mission goes well. Direct and protectyour squad, save any hostages who might be hanging around, and accomplish your main missionobjectives. The latter may include sabotage, simple spying, or even assassinations. Good luck. --BillHutchens Pros:

You and your group do drills to train for your missions. The only bad part is the missions and choosing all of your stuff takes a long time....A VERY LONG TIME..... After you have all of your weapons and materials you go on over 21 different missions. You kill terrorists and try to save hostages by getting past the terrorists guarding them who will shoot you right when they see you which causes a problem. It is nearly impossible to save the hostages. On your missions you also go to certian areas and get ready to make your attack on the enemies. Then its time to attack with your sweet guns. This game is a great shooting simulator that will attract many people who enjoy hunting or shooting with guns. This game is almost too realistic which isn't all that bad, but bad when it comes to you getting killed all the time when you go on certain missions. If you are looking for some fun with your Dreamcast...this is the game to get. ... Read more Asin: B00001ZWNA |

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow Average Customer Review: Video Game (23 March, 2004) list price: $49.99 -- our price: $19.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review 2006: The U.S. installs a temporary military base on East Timor to train the developing defense force of the "world's youngest democracy." Resistance to the U.S. military presence in Southeast Asia is widespread and passionate, but the threat Indonesian militias pose to Timorese democracy is deemed sufficient justification. Anti-U.S. resentment comes to a head under the leadership of guerrilla militia leader Suhadi Sadono, acting with the unofficial support of major corrupt factions of the Indonesian government. Suhadi's men attack and occupy the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, taking dozens of civilian and military personnel hostage. Deployed by a top secret wing of the NSA (National Security Agency) known as Third Echelon, Sam Fisher is a lone field operative supported by a remote team. Fisher must defend and assist the U.S. military, both locally and from remote locations, until Suhadi's terror-driven policies can be subverted and the guerrilla faction eradicated. Charged with saving the world, its a high stakes game. If he fails, the U.S. will deny any knowledge of his existence. An experience so compelling you feel it.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge (17 April, 2000) list price: $29.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Rainbow Six is a surprisingly faithful conversion of thepopular covert-ops simulator for the PC, PlayStation, and Dreamcast--andthat might be its biggest fault. The little Game Boy Color handheld justisn't suited for the detailed planning phase each mission requires, andit doesn't have the horsepower to make the game's enemies challenging atall. All of the missions from the other games are re-created here, as are thescreens where you select and outfit your team members. It can take quitesome time to meticulously plan the routes you want team members to takeduring the actual mission, which makes it all the more frustrating oncethey get stuck before reaching the end of the route. This happens fartoo often, and most of the time we just ran through the levels with acharacter we were controlling directly and capped all the terroristsmanually. This is made easier than it should be by the fact that enemies arealways visible, regardless of the number of walls between them and yourteam members. Ambushes are ridiculously easy to set up because of this, and the game loses much of tension found in other versions as a result. This isn't a completely terrible conversion of Rainbow Six, butsimilar games like Metal Gear Solid are much less tedious and alot more fun. --T. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Average Customer Review: Video Game (08 November, 2002) list price: $49.99 -- our price: $19.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Set in the year 2008, Ghost Recon is a Tom Clancy-inspired war game that puts you in command of a Special Forces unit pitted against Russian ultranationalists trying to rebuild the former Soviet Union. Although the story arc is grand in scale (in keeping with Clancy's style), the game doesn't involve you in the war's major battles. You'll actually spend most of your time behind enemy lines--rescuing downed fighter pilots, knocking out enemy patrols, ambushing armor columns. You control a six-man squad, divided into two teams, and you have the opportunity to handpick your squad members (and their equipment) after each mission briefing. You can switch your point of view to any of the six active soldiers--the soldier you control automatically becomes the leader of his team, while the other team operates according to orders you give via a map interface. Thus, you can move one team into a covering position, leave them with orders to provide cover fire, and then lead the other team in to reach your objective. Or, break up your squad and try to achieve two objectives simultaneously. The level of detail and realism is incredible, right down to the way the soldiers communicate in hushed tones and with gestures. The complexity of the game requires an elaborate controller setup that takes a while to get used to (luckily there are plenty of training missions designed to help you learn the multitude of movement, weapons, and command functions). Once you get the hang of it, you'll find it's worth the time spent in boot camp. --Maile Bohlmann Pros:

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge (22 November, 1999) list price: $59.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Every once in awhile, a game comes along that pulls elements of populargame genres together in a refreshing new way. Rainbow Six is such a game, taking the engrossing realism of a first-person action game, such as GoldenEye 007, andadding a strategy element that brings enormous depth to the gameplay. Tom Clancy authored the Rainbow Six game while drafting the novel of the samename, and the attention to detail shows in the depth and maturity of the story and gamedesign. Players take command of an elite anti-terrorist team through 12 missions that varyfrom saving hostages to disarming bombs. A plot unravels along the way that literallyleaves the fate of the world in the player's shaking hands (a rumble pack works wonders here). Before jumping into the mission, players can read briefings and bios of the terrorists, choose team members based on specialty, and strategize each move using an overheadmap of the area or building they must infiltrate. Setting waypoints in the planning stageallows the computer-controlled team members to, say, infiltrate a back door while theplayer leads another team through the front door in the first-person view. A few buttonpushes shifts the player's control to the other team. Realism is key here, and 20 minutesof planning may end with one bad move. That is, if the terrorist respondsintelligently--the artificial intelligence (AI) is a bit buggy at times. Two players cancomplete missions together, creating a multiplayer option that sure is a welcome changefrom running around with guns blazin'. --Eric Twelker Pros:
