    Editorial Review

As first-person shooters go, Rainbow Six is to Dreamcast what GoldenEye 007is to the Nintendo 64: the most innovative and intriguing title of its kind for the platform. Borrowed fromTom Clancy's novel of the same name, Rainbow Six offers a fascinating first-person adventurethrough lush worlds and highly detailed environments that have yet to be seen on gaming consoles. Butdon't stop to smell the roses too often or you'll end up staring down the business end of an oncomingStinger missile.

You command an elite antiterrorism force through a series of stealth and action missions. Sometimes youwill need to sneak through a foreign embassy in the dark with your night vision goggles on, while othertimes you'll need to launch a full-on weapons attack on your enemies. The game does both types ofmissions well, but you'll have to spend some time planning with your team before you start each level.Plotting out missions in advance and positioning team members lends a unique real-time strategy feel to thealready excellent shooter aspect of the game.

As the team leader, you are solely responsible for making sure each mission goes well. Direct and protectyour squad, save any hostages who might be hanging around, and accomplish your main missionobjectives. The latter may include sabotage, simple spying, or even assassinations. Good luck. --BillHutchens

    Pros:

    • Perfect mix of first-person shooting and strategy
    • Complex environments
    • Foes boast realistic intelligence
    Cons:
    • No multiplayer support
    • Multiple objectives are sometimes overwhelming

1-0 out of 5 stars A HUGE Letdown...
I really wanted to like this game. I wanted to play it ever since I got my Dreamcast. After many delays, it finally came out, so I rented it. Good thing that's all I did. I'm sorry to report, but this is a horrible game. But why? First off, are the graphics. While they're certainly not the worst I've ever seen, they really leave too much to be desired, especially for the fact that this is a Dreamcast game. You can see the polygons sticking out of the characters and they don't look realistic at all. I've seen N64 games that look better than this. Heck, I've seen Playstation 1 games that look better. The next problem are the controls. They are the worst part of this game. Using the X, Y, B, and A buttons to move isn't bad, but on default, A moves foward and Y moves back. MDK2, Fur Fighters, Quake 3, and almost every other shooter on the DC uses the same X, Y, B, and A movement setup, but after playing those far better games where A moved back and Y moved foward, it's difficult to change.Mercifully, you can change this setup (but unfortunately, only the X, Y, B, A movement setup) to match the other games mentioned above. That's not the end of the control woes, however. With cumbersome menus and 37 commands put into the Dreamcast controller, without support for the Dreamcast Keyboard, it makes the game a REAL pain to learn and makes it barely playable. I can assure you, the controls are much worse than they sound. Not to mention the fact that you can't customize anything but the moving controls (mentioned above) to your liking. Plus, the loading times are too darn long. But there's something good about this game. The sounds are very good and draw you into the action, and the voicework is above average. But that's sadly it. I was hoping for a good spy game like Goldeneye, but with more emphasis on stealth and on the Dreamcast, but I just wasn't that lucky. Don't bother wasting your time with this piece of junk. Instead, skip it and go immediately to Perfect Dark. This game had so much potential, and it's a real shame that it couldn't come together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
Rainbow Six is a great port of the PC game. The graphics aren't the best, but everything else makes up for it. The sound is wonderful. I haven't finished the game yet but so far it has been challenging and fun. Buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing shooting Dreamcast game
Rainbow Six is one amazing game. You just what the U.S. Army is doing right now in Afghanistan. You are with an anti-terrorist group which tries to stop terrorists from bombing buildings and other terrorist acts.

You and your group do drills to train for your missions. The only bad part is the missions and choosing all of your stuff takes a long time....A VERY LONG TIME.....

After you have all of your weapons and materials you go on over 21 different missions. You kill terrorists and try to save hostages by getting past the terrorists guarding them who will shoot you right when they see you which causes a problem. It is nearly impossible to save the hostages.

On your missions you also go to certian areas and get ready to make your attack on the enemies. Then its time to attack with your sweet guns. This game is a great shooting simulator that will attract many people who enjoy hunting or shooting with guns.

This game is almost too realistic which isn't all that bad, but bad when it comes to you getting killed all the time when you go on certain missions.

If you are looking for some fun with your Dreamcast...this is the game to get. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

2006: The U.S. installs a temporary military base on East Timor to train the developing defense force of the "world's youngest democracy." Resistance to the U.S. military presence in Southeast Asia is widespread and passionate, but the threat Indonesian militias pose to Timorese democracy is deemed sufficient justification. Anti-U.S. resentment comes to a head under the leadership of guerrilla militia leader Suhadi Sadono, acting with the unofficial support of major corrupt factions of the Indonesian government. Suhadi's men attack and occupy the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, taking dozens of civilian and military personnel hostage.

Deployed by a top secret wing of the NSA (National Security Agency) known as Third Echelon, Sam Fisher is a lone field operative supported by a remote team. Fisher must defend and assist the U.S. military, both locally and from remote locations, until Suhadi's terror-driven policies can be subverted and the guerrilla faction eradicated. Charged with saving the world, it’s a high stakes game. If he fails, the U.S. will deny any knowledge of his existence.

An experience so compelling you feel it.

    • Believe the story. Inspired by the world of Tom Clancy, and endorsed by the famous author, and written by JT Petty, who penned the original Splinter Cell, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow features a storyline so real you can feel it. Tension filled stealth-action springs from a compelling original storyline so realistic it could have been ripped from the headlines.
    • Understand the characters. In this sequel to the original game, favorite characters like Sam Fisher and Irving Lambert return and unveil even more about their personal histories in the more character-driven storyline. New antagonists appear, including Suhadi Sodano an Indonesian guerilla leader whose beliefs are sound, but whose methods are barbaric. And then there is Norman Soth: CIA-trained mercenary deep under cover or traitor working for the enemy? Whose side is he really on?
    • Immerse yourself.Revolutionary lighting, shadowing, animation, physics, and sound effects pushed to the limit to create a universe so tightly woven that the line between reality and gaming starts to blur. "High res" cinematics, amazing sound design and music as well as top quality voice over give SCPT as unique movie production quality. Voice actors, music composers and cinematic directors to be announced in the coming months.
    • You’ve got the moves. Now more than ever, Sam relies on his moves. In this sequel to the original Splinter Cell, circumstances demand that Sam use his agility and athleticism to avoid detection and death. In fact the level design demands them. Use a half split jump to reach a ledge, zip line across an open courtyard, rappel along the side of a building, SWAT-turn to bypass an open door unseen.
    • You’ve got the gear. Based on prototypes currently in development, or gadgets out on the field, Sam Fisher has a menu of high tech gadgets and tools from which to choose.
Revolutionary multiplayer stealth action gameplay online for the first time.
    • Take Splinter Cell online. Taking place in a graphically-rich environment we expect from Splinter Cell, the multiplayer gameplay is a natural extension of the Splinter Cell world. Just as in Splinter Cell, players will call on a wide variety of gadgets, weapons and athletic moves to best their opponents. The light and shadow-filled environment offers dark retreats for stealth gamers and wide open spaces that spell danger for spies. The multiplayer game is integrated into the compelling offline story, though both offline and online gameplay can be enjoyed independently of one another.
    • Choose a side. Taunt your enemies from the shadows as you meet stealth objectives playing through wide multiplayer maps in third-person view as a Shadow Net Spy. Or track spies using a first-person perspective as a heavy armed Argus Mercenary protecting your compound. The abilities and resources on each side are evenly matched. Winning will come down to skill and strategy.
    • Feel the tension. Just as in the original game, online players will feel the tension that comes from never knowing what might happen next. Shadow Net spies hold their breath as mercenaries pass by close enough to touch them. They hide in the dark and wait for the right moment to spring into action. They work in concert—one can distract the mercenaries, while the other(s) meets the objective. Mercenaries never know when a Shadow Net spy might silently drop down from the shadows to attack, or slip by detection efforts to complete a mission. By relying heavily on their detection devices they feel like they can stop the threat—at least for now. Are spies stealing your secrets while they toy with you?
It’s important to note that the maximum number of players on a multiplayer map is four. Too many people in a map would create chaos and result in shooter gameplay. But this is Splinter Cell. It’s a stealth action game not a shooter. This game tests your stealth and your strategy, your readiness and your resourcefulness. Are you ready?
    • Feel the game. The multiplayer maps feature the revolutionary lighting, shadowing, animation, physics, and sound effects that have become the Splinter Cell trademark. Graphical effects push that even further. Electronic interference can disrupt the vision and tools of the mercenaries. Spies must avoid the searching flash lights and laser pointers. Flash bang, shaft and gas grenades are also powerful visual effects that players will have to deal with. Thanks to their advanced goggles, Shadow Nets can see in the dark and read thermo signatures in their environment while mercenaries detect movements and electro-magnetic disturbance in their surroundings…and much more to discover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sets the new standard for stealth based games.
Splinter Cell was one of the greatest stealth games of all time the instant it hit stores. But this exihilarating sequal will make you wonder why you bough Splinter Cell.

    Single Player:
In Pandora Tommorow you play a stealth agent (Sam Fisher) working for the United States Government. It is your job to do the things that no one else does.Infiltrate foreign enemy territory and find plans, viruses, and maybe some French Brains (when you play it you'll know what I mean).

In the game you have a great variety of moves, you can use over 20 different stealth moves. Throughout the game you'll be shooting about cameras, hacking computers, slipping by motion alarms, climbing rooftops, dogding land mines, and thats just to name a few of the features this sequal contains.

    Multiplayer:
If you thought the 24 hours it took you to beat single player on hard was fun. Wait till you kick on Xbox Live and put in Pandora Tommorow. You can either be a Mercenary or a Spy. It's two on two to complete various objects. Visually the multiplayer maps are just a little short of perfection.

The only problem I ran into in Splinter Cell: Pandora Tommorow it's that it sometimes can get difficult and turns into a trial and error thing, so if you're not a hard-core gamer, download a guide off the internet for a just in case situation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Extremely fun game
Tom Clancey's Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow is probobly one of the best games that i have ever played besides, Chaos Theory and Halo 2. The graphics are great, the gameplay is awesome and best of all, it is online! Plus there is downloadable content.

    PRO:
    1.Graphics are superb
    2.Gameplay is awesome and fun.
3.So much that you can do...
    4.Online
    5.Downloadable content
    6.Huge replay value

    CON:
1.Single player can be extremely challenging and frustrating at times.
    2. Controls are difficult to master.

Besides the two cons that i just listed, this game is definetely worth your money!

3-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably Short

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Demo
If you didn't pre-order Rainbow Six 3, this is an excellent buy for those who love shooters. The Rainbow Six demo is great, also has playable demos of Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon with great download levels for both Splinter Cell and Island Thunder. This was money well spent!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Intro and extras disc
This is a nice tryout of the Tom Clancy games for xbox and it looks like Rainbow Six will kick butt.On top of the demos, you get 4 more levels for Island Thunder and 3 more levels for Splinter Cell. You have to have the original games and actually played them on your xbox for the extra levels to work. You should probably run out and reserve a copy of Rainbow Six at a game store and get this for free.As far as I'm concerned, the extra levels are worth purchasing, but you don't have to right now.Have some extra fun with this disc....to bad they couldn't include some extra levels for the first ghost recon. ... Editorial Review

Rainbow Six is a surprisingly faithful conversion of thepopular covert-ops simulator for the PC, PlayStation, and Dreamcast--andthat might be its biggest fault. The little Game Boy Color handheld justisn't suited for the detailed planning phase each mission requires, andit doesn't have the horsepower to make the game's enemies challenging atall.

All of the missions from the other games are re-created here, as are thescreens where you select and outfit your team members. It can take quitesome time to meticulously plan the routes you want team members to takeduring the actual mission, which makes it all the more frustrating oncethey get stuck before reaching the end of the route. This happens fartoo often, and most of the time we just ran through the levels with acharacter we were controlling directly and capped all the terroristsmanually.

This is made easier than it should be by the fact that enemies arealways visible, regardless of the number of walls between them and yourteam members. Ambushes are ridiculously easy to set up because of this, and the game loses much of tension found in other versions as a result. This isn't a completely terrible conversion of Rainbow Six, butsimilar games like Metal Gear Solid are much less tedious and alot more fun. --T. Byrl Baker

    Pros:

    • A solid story line taken directly from the original version of thegame
    • Lots of missions, characters, and action
    Cons:
    • The ability to see enemies at all times removes much of the tensionthat makes the original version so great

4-0 out of 5 stars dark but fun
The game is pretty fun but you have to have perfect light to see it well enough to play right. Otherwise it has good challenge I don't like how your team and the hostages get stuck alot ,but it is a good game for a trip or when your bored would not sit and play all of the time.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not That Great...buy something else.
The game is really easy. The bad guys can shoot worth crap and the same goes for your teammates. Your teammates and hostages get stuck alot during the game. I found the planning stage to be hard to control and hard to get the way points where they should be. Plus there are weapons in the game that you could never use...like breaching charges and lockpicks...since there are no doors that where locked...and they automatically open when you walk into them. I'm a big fan of the origional PC game but this was a dissapointment for me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Rainbow Six
The fun was over when I turned the game on. Dismal graphics, poor on screen instructions, and bad design. If this were the only game out for Gameboy, well I'd take up the yo-yo. ... Read more

In Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, the sequel to the popular Rainbow Six series of games for the PC and other platforms, players assume command of an elite counterterrorist group and guide it through a dynamic campaign filled with 16 nerve-racking missions, such as rescuing hostages. 3-0 out of 5 stars not the best, not the worst
the weapons choice and mission scenarios are great in this game, the controls however will take you days to figure out, but u can switch them which is good. one or two shots and ur dead, which makes the gameplay hard to get used to. it's also choppy and hard to manuever at times. rent it before you buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars TJ Wiesner
Bravo Bravo. This is some of Tom Clancys best work. I loved this game and I couldnt put it down. Between all the stratiegic levels the awesome campaign missions this has to be the best game in the world. I do have to admit that this game is not for little kids for 3 reasons. #1 It is way to strategic for younger children. #2 The controls require big hands that can reach the R1,R2,L1,and L2 buttons. #3 This one is very little. But if you have the blood on it may be to violent for younger children. But overall it was the best game I ever played.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Choice
Who ever thinks this game is great has never played the Syphon Filter series. The game has fair graphics, yet lacks in so much. The aiming goes for you (which I don't mind TOO much) but one or two shots and you're dead. Go a little too far around the corner by trying to see what's ahead and you die. This game was WAY below my expectations and I am sick of it. If you want a good shooter with some real content and fun, get the Syphon Filter series. If you want a challenging, every move you have to think about game, get SWAT 3 (except it's for computers) ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Worst game i have EVER played!
When i first got this game (i was only 10 at the time) i went right to the training area. the first thing i noticed was the terreble graphics. They are totally dull, boring, and plain. So then i went through part of the training course that showed you basic movement, which i noticed was awful. Then i got to the target range. This is the moment i fully understood how hard the game was going to be (and no, not cuz i sucked at fps's when i was ten). The aiming was so twitchy and out of control i could not hit a single target. And now even today i struggle to hit the targets on that course.

The rest of the game is sadly, much the same.

Oh, and, forget about run mode, R6 seems to have a very low framerate or something, cuz you cant see a stupid thing while your running through cramped hallways and cramped doorways.

You know, i could rant on all day about how bad Rainbow Six is (at least for PS), but just take my word ( and most other peoples word) for it and don't buy this piece of trash

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the worst game ever
Ok, so the graphics look like they were made with crayons, and the a.i. is pretty bland and has really bad aim. That's the only problems I have with this game. I'm not saying it's spectacular, but it's definitely not the worst game ever.

Lots of people griping about the controls. I only have one problem with them--the look-around is somewhat sluggish and seems to move on a wide grid rather than a completely free range. So if you're looking over the terrorist's right shoulder, it might take a bit of adjusting to center on him. It's not TOO bad though, because you can usually adjust before the guy shoots you since the a.i. has bad aim. So the flaws even themselves out in this case.

Rescue hostages, disarm bombs. There's not much variety to your objectives, but the locales change a lot. The graphics may be bad, but you still get a feel for the different places you go to, and that's pretty fun.

If you're looking for a game with a storyline, this one isnt' for you. It's just a string of missions, really. The entire storyline is this: "A top secret counterterrorist squad codenamed Rainbow thwarts terrorist attacks around the globe." And there's nothing else to it.

It's not a great game, but if you're looking for something cheap to kill some time with, this could be the thing for you.

If you're looking for amazing a.i. and decent or good graphics, though, this is definitely not for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Its Not All bad
In this life of Playstation 2 and Rainbow Six 3 coming out i figured it was time to get caught up as ive recently become interested in Clancy's Jack Ryan books and as a major fan of John Clark i figured it was time to track down this game and play it. I enjoy first person shooter games like Bond and the Medal of Honor series. One thing i love about Six is that there is more of a level of reality to it because nothing is more obnoxious than playing a game and having your character absorb a hundred shots to the head and hes still plugging along shooting baddies. And then you run into the "boss" baddie and use a rocket launcher and unload three clips into him before he dies. In this game if you get shot in the head your done, you shoot a baddie in the knees and his leg buckles out from underhim. if one of your team members is KIA they dont come back, and you have to wait for your team members to heal if they were wounded in battle. Yes the graphics are a little rough but it is still fun to play cause it takes more strategy than your average FPS. and yes the controls were horrible at first but in the 1st controller setting ive gotten so use to being able to sidestep around corners its become an invaluable technique for surviving in the terrorist filled world. Can't wait to go home and play even more! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Forgive the controls and play the game!!
You heard me!The controls take a minute or two to learn, and the menus are hard to scroll through without a keyboard, but if you can get past these points this game can be VERY fun and intense.Fun because you get to rescue hostages, and intense because one or two shots and your dead!Nothing's more fun than running through a mission with different people, I.E. be the person that runs in there and shoots the guards or the person that snipes from atop a hidden point... if you REALLY can't get over the controls, please get it on the PC, the controls are much better!

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally worth your money!!
I don't care about what anyone thinks this is one of the most realistic first person shooter out there. The missios are very in depth. Once you get a hold of the controls it is not very confusing. If you want some challenge and action you should buy this game. The objectives of these missions will change, some missions you will have to diffuse a bomb, but others you will have to resque hostages or even do both in the same level.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tactical/stealth game with only a few flaws
This game is great! I got it about four months ago and it has been such an improvement over the first Splinter Cell that you won't be able to put it down either. There is also a multiplayer option which looks stunning.

The graphics are easily some of the best ever seen on the Playstation2. The environments are beautiful, and the charecter models are stunning. Grass sways in the breeze and water ripples when your charecter is running in it.

The actual gameplay is not like most shooter games, but is a pure joy. This is not your average 'shoot-em-up' games. You must enter with stealth, shoot out lights to get yourself into the dark, sneak past gaurds and camera and use optic cables before entering a room. The game will also end when you sound about two or three alarms.

There are a few firefights in the game, that are often short and random, but pretty intense and fun. But it's the tactical element that makes it so fun. In addition to using stealth, there are clever puzzles scattered through out that game and usaully more than one way to reach objectives. The levels sometimes involve the charecter rappeling down a cliff or building or using a zipline to get to another roof top. Pure fun if you ask me. And it really hasn't been experienced before in video games which makes it even better.

The controls are pretty simple, but I have to agree that the jumping feels a little strange. I know that I got adjusted to the controls relatively quickly. Just stick with them for a while and you'll be able to manage them.

Despite all the good things about this game, it's just not perfect. The are frequent problems with the camera which can be between awkward and maddening. You are also not able to play multiplayer without an online connection, and from what I've heard, there's no cooperative mode.

Overall, the game is definately worth atleast fifty dollars and the missions are very fun to replay. Despite all its bad aspects it's fun. Although I'd think about picking up a copy of James Bond Everything or Nothing or Halo. Pandora Tomorrow is a must by for any gamer in general. Rating:8.5/10

5-0 out of 5 stars Pandora Tomorrow
This game is a really really good game. It has awesome graphics, the controls are great once you get used to them. The only thing is that it is really dark, but then it has to be. I thought it was really easy but it had some hard parts to it especially the last level. Probably the best game I have ever gotten, worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS GOOD
I like this game a lot. It is fun and it took me 4 months to finish it. This game is not educational but it teaches you to be patient. Here are my pros and cons
    Pros
    1.Fun to play
    2.Good gadgets
    3.Good graphics
    4.Online plays fun
5.Easy to control once you've had it a week or 2
    Cons
1.Lack of guns (Only a pistol and an assault rifle with gadgets on and a sniper scope. And theres a few grenades and explosives)
2.Not much ammo (So you have to be wise with what you have)
    3.Stealth can be boring
Verdict: You will like this game but buy the new 1 Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. I have not got that but when I have the money to I will.

    Editorial Review

Set in the year 2008, Ghost Recon is a Tom Clancy-inspired war game that puts you in command of a Special Forces unit pitted against Russian ultranationalists trying to rebuild the former Soviet Union. Although the story arc is grand in scale (in keeping with Clancy's style), the game doesn't involve you in the war's major battles. You'll actually spend most of your time behind enemy lines--rescuing downed fighter pilots, knocking out enemy patrols, ambushing armor columns.

You control a six-man squad, divided into two teams, and you have the opportunity to handpick your squad members (and their equipment) after each mission briefing. You can switch your point of view to any of the six active soldiers--the soldier you control automatically becomes the leader of his team, while the other team operates according to orders you give via a map interface. Thus, you can move one team into a covering position, leave them with orders to provide cover fire, and then lead the other team in to reach your objective. Or, break up your squad and try to achieve two objectives simultaneously.

The level of detail and realism is incredible, right down to the way the soldiers communicate in hushed tones and with gestures. The complexity of the game requires an elaborate controller setup that takes a while to get used to (luckily there are plenty of training missions designed to help you learn the multitude of movement, weapons, and command functions). Once you get the hang of it, you'll find it's worth the time spent in boot camp. --Maile Bohlmann

    Pros:

    • Incredible graphics and realism
    • Wide array of tactical options integrates strategy into the action
    • Missions are diverse and challenging

    Cons:

    • Controls are complicated, hard to master, and sometimes counterintuitive
    • Dramatic music and "drill sergeant" narration between missions is pretty campy
    • Enemy soldiers sometimes behave too predictably

WHEN I WENT TO NEW YORK CITIE FOR VACATION I WAS LOOKING IN A GAME STORE AND FOUND THIS GAME. IT LOOKED PRETTY GOOD SO I THOUGHT I WOULD GET IT.
    PROS:
EVEN THOUGH MANY PEOPLE SAY THE CONTROLS ARE HARD TO GET A HANG OF I DISAGREE. I DO RECOMEND JUST DO A HEAD TO HEAD BATTLE WITH YOUR SELF TO PRACTICE THE CONTROLS.ALSO THE GRAPHICTS ARE VERY WELL DONE. THEVIOLANCE KS VERY REALISTIC ALONG WITHTHE SOUNDS. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR VIOLANCE LOOK NO FURTHER. IN THIS GAME YOUR CHARECTER CAN EATHER STAND, NEAL, OR CRALL AND STILL BE MOBILE. LASTLY YOU CAN HAVE A MULTIPLAYER CAMPAIN.
OVERALL THIS IS THE 4TH BEST GAME I HAVE BEHIND BOTH HALO'S AND THE SIMPSONS HIT AND RUN.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWSOME!
Okay, the only reasons u shouldn't love this game are:
    -You can't stomach the violence.
-Your mom won't let you get it.
-You think its to hard cuz u die in 1-3 hits.
    -You don't know whats good.
-u are a pacifist, liberal, moron, or a hippie.
-u don't have video game systems.

2-0 out of 5 stars Rent it first
I purchased this game based on all of the hype and good reviews I'd seen on it.Once I got it home to play it, not only did I not have fun, the game only succeded in making me angry.

I played through the training scenarios.Already I was not impressed with the controls.I tried playing the first mission 3 times. The premise seemed pretty simple. You're in control of 2 3-man teams. You sweep through an area, accomplishing tasks and killing unfriendlies.I was thoroughly wasted on all three times I played the first mission.I didn't even get close to the end of the first level. The controls were clumsy and the enemies were nigh impossible to see.Even the map gave me little information as to what was going on.

Now, I know you're supposed to take your time with this game.Halo it ain't.But, I like games that take time.I've played through levels of Splinter Cell and Hitman 2 multiple times just to get the fewest number of kills possible.I also finished Morrowind which is not exactly an instant gratification game.I didn't try to haul through GR, absorbing damage. There are some games some people just can't get the hang of.Maybe this was one of those for me.I also tried the first Rainbow 6 when it came out, and I hated that, too.Maybe it's squad-based games I hate.I would rather be in control of one guy and know exactly what he's doing than 6 and have 3 of those running around doing God knows what.

As with any game, I recommend renting it first. If you rent it and like it, great. It cost you an extra 3-5 bucks than if you just bought it.If you hate it, you save upwards of 45 bucks. The choice is yours. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tom Clancy Has Done It Again
Before I begin, let me tell you, this game is not for any undetermined fighters.True, it is not as good as the XBOX or PS2 versions, but it sure as hell beats the heck out of most fighter games.Ignore the weopons, they stink, but you can beat most shooting games with only a pistol. What I'm saying is: If you don't know how to plan, you'll screw up pretty badly. One more plus, it's perfectly fine for teens (not people younger than that).

The squad you lead is a double or nothing squad. One man down and you feel that you have failed the mission. The excitement and realism is amazing. But remember, if you don't care, you don't win.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ghost Recon for Gamecube
Overall, this is a great game for anyone who likes tactical shooters. It takes a lot of concentration. The weapons are cool, and the levels are cool, too. Multiplayer is the best part. I haven't done any missions yet. The blood aspect isn't really that graphic, Its just a little red on the ground. The guy doesn't even have bllod on him. This game should have been rated "T", but I'm not going to argue about that.
The snipers have congo camo, like in nam. It's really cool. They have a thermal view, too. If you like the run out and shoot em game, get unreal tournament, not this.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ghost Glitch
Needless to say I won’t ever purchase another Clancy or Uni Softgame.I found the movements in Ghost Recon to be slow and clumsy and about every fourth play the game will freeze up entirely. The “combat” is unrealistic and the weapon systems wholly inaccurate. Very disappointing, but we live and learn.Peace. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars its cool, and fun...but its one of the trial and error games
Trial and error: try something, screw it up, try it again till u get it right....this is in short the gameplay...it comes with the genre

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful game but saving can be a pain
This game is great, I normaly hate stealth games but this one keeps me tuned in to play again and again untill everything is acomplished. The way to do things may be a bit linear but first time around you will have fun for sure.Repeating at the last checkpoint can be a pain and I wish they had a better save feature so that you dont have to repeat every lockpick, rekill every guy, or redo any lockpicks.Perhaps I'm too used to playing games on the computer but I'm sure many agrees with me.The game uses sound effects to help your playing style and doesn't just add to the enviroment. For instance, you'll be hinted that there is a camera by whirling sounds or sounds of talking near bad guys. The bad guys here dont just walk around just to shoot you, some have personalities and talk to each other. It is quite fun to listen in on a conversation before sneaking up to them. You may want to have a sharp or big TV to read the little text that the game has.

5-0 out of 5 stars Refuels my love of "tactical" action games
Back in my former life as an avid PC gamer, one of my favorite games was Thief (the original, not the 2004 release that I am unable to try out). Since those days, I've longed for a game that rewarded pure stealth and strategy over blazing guns and quick trigger fingers. I found partial relief in Metal Gear Solid 2, but it was definitely not the same. Now, at last, my thirst has been quenched by /Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell/.

    Pros:
    * Immersive gameplay with a heavy emphasis on staying in the shadows and keeping quiet.
    * Nice gadgets to play with. You've got just enough tech to make your missions possible, but not so much that you are overwhelmingly superior. Spy on conversations, peek under doors, see in the dark. Cool toys, and all very useful.
    * Great graphics for the PS2, with impressive lighting and atmospheric effects. Fabrics billow in the wind and swirl around objects, lanterns sway in the breeze, etc.
    * Excellent voice acting and sound effects. The pre-rendered cut scenes are very nice, although not exactly movie quality. The DVD style "extras" are rather cool, also.
    * VERY tight control scheme. It may not be 100% intuitive, but it feels a lot better than MGS2 (which, to me, seems a little sluggish).

    Cons:
    * Not all lights can be shot out to make shadows to hide in. This is probably a limitation imposed by the PS2's dynamic lighting capabilities. It does limit your creativity at certain points in the game, though.
    * Frequent breaks in the action to load new areas (on the plus side, this gives you frequent chances to save your game).
    * No multiplayer. C'mon, I can't be the only one who wants to skulk around in the shadows and assassinate the virtual versions of my friends, right?

Here's the bottom line: Splinter Cell is THE stealth action game for PS2. It looks great, sounds great, and plays great. This style of gaming is not for everyone, but if you are looking for something with more depth than your average run 'n' gun shooter, you've found it. ... Read more

its a lot of fun except for one thing doing the same part over and over and over and over and over and that kinda gets annoying but other than that great graphics cool gadgets and lots of choices on how your gonna kill someone.shock, explode, pop one in his head, sand bags, wack or just get killed by him.

oh yeah and something else thats really funny on the last level presidental palace when you knock out the first guy grab his body and go as close as you can to the cliffs edge and hit "R"
and youll pull out your gun and his body will fall off the cliff which is really funny to watch so enjoy

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best games I ever played!
Splinter Cell is awesome! It has great graphics, kick-butt stealth tactics, and blow your-mind-off weapons! You can move in the shadows so no one can see you, you can pick up bodies, you can hack into computers, and use lethal or non-lethal force!

Still, the leves are long so it will keep you busy! There is a hard mode and normal mode. I suggest playing in hard mode. Normal mode is easy. This game isn't much different from the first. The game is definately tailored for those with Live. For those of us without....The game is still rich in detail but a few bugs still do remain. The waypoint guide still requires you (sometimes) to get into the exact spot or spin circles to release it.Arms will still appear through doors and similar barriers and team mates will still get stuck everynow and then. The most disheartening thing is that a sniper really isn't needed. The specialists have a amount of accuracy at a range that only a sniper should be able to hit.If they can see it on zoom they can hit it.The number of levels for those of us without Live is also a downside. But still all in all this is a good game and for a challenge play on Elite. It's a keeper. ... Editorial Review

Every once in awhile, a game comes along that pulls elements of populargame genres together in a refreshing new way. Rainbow Six is such a game, taking the engrossing realism of a first-person action game, such as GoldenEye 007, andadding a strategy element that brings enormous depth to the gameplay.

Tom Clancy authored the Rainbow Six game while drafting the novel of the samename, and the attention to detail shows in the depth and maturity of the story and gamedesign. Players take command of an elite anti-terrorist team through 12 missions that varyfrom saving hostages to disarming bombs. A plot unravels along the way that literallyleaves the fate of the world in the player's shaking hands (a rumble pack works wonders here).

Before jumping into the mission, players can read briefings and bios of the terrorists, choose team members based on specialty, and strategize each move using an overheadmap of the area or building they must infiltrate. Setting waypoints in the planning stageallows the computer-controlled team members to, say, infiltrate a back door while theplayer leads another team through the front door in the first-person view. A few buttonpushes shifts the player's control to the other team. Realism is key here, and 20 minutesof planning may end with one bad move. That is, if the terrorist respondsintelligently--the artificial intelligence (AI) is a bit buggy at times. Two players cancomplete missions together, creating a multiplayer option that sure is a welcome changefrom running around with guns blazin'. --Eric Twelker

    Pros:

    • An engrossing game, paced as one might expect from a novelist
    • Effective ambient sound effects
    • An excellent port from the acclaimed PC version
    Cons:
    • Realism is sometimes compromised by buggy AI

4-0 out of 5 stars excellently done
The reality for a N64 game astonished me, however the requirement for a memory pak on the controller is the price. This is a game for people with patients and an enjoyment of planning and strategizing... and not being bothered by failure. The Multi-Player feature is a godsend on those harder levels.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ehh.. Not so great..
I never myself liked any Tom Clancy games just because of their controls and style.. i am very picky when it comes to the games I like, and I must say this game was not to my liking.
First off, the single player is horrible, so simply don't bother with that.
Next off, the online mode is not very well done either, simply because there is not enough people online and the levels are too huge
Next, the graphics are horrible. I know graphics aren't everything, but these graphics are absolutely horrible.
Finally, the one and only good thing; the multi player. I found the split screen mode enjoyable to play with a friend because you actually have to make up strategies for this game; you can't run and gun in this game without a strategy.

All in all, this game is only good if you have a buddy next to you playing it with you.

1-0 out of 5 stars GAY GAME. THIS IS NO WAR, ITS A BORE.
The worst gam I have ever played. You can't even see your gun and you die way to easy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than a lot of military games I've played!
It would be a diservice to compare this game to other games such as Navy Seals and Medal of Honor.I will treat this game on it's own merit and game play.I really enjoyed the first Ghost Recon game immensely, but I thought, I wish I could use a headset to speak commands.Well, they must've heard me because you can with this game!!It's fun to tell my guys what to do.I like that you can switch to different characters on the fly.If you are playing and get seriously injured well, you can switch to a healthy one to lead. And the injured one actually moves as if he is really injured!!Now that's awesome.Graphics are really good.Especially the one where you are in the rain and it's foggy.Awesome.Visibility is very low and you have to rely on your sensor to tell where bad guys are or potentially are.A few time's I've reverted to using my night vision in the day when visibility is compromised. So, you can improvise in this game.I see by many other reviewers that they've not thought as highly as I have about this game. But, I can tell you, I've enjoyed it so much, I want to just keep on going. And now they got Ghost Recon 2!!I can't wait to get my hands on that one as well!! ...

Thus, you can move one team into a covering position, leave them with orders to provide cover fire, then lead the other team in to reach your objective.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have title for any "true" war gamer.
I could go on and on telling you about this game but instead I'll cut to the chase, breaking this game down into little pieces.

Concept - Lead five fellow Ghosts into battle using stealth and all out firepower, depending on the situation. The story is set in the near future where you will retreive documents, rescue prisoners, take hostages, and the like. The overall goal is to accomplish these tasks swiftly, silently, and invisibly, hence the name Ghost Recon.

Controls - The controls are tight and work very well, I disagree with the people saying the controls take a long time to get use to. They are great and the PS2 version makes a target zoom avilable. Never at one point did I get frustrated or confused by the controls.

Graphic - Too many people complain about this part of the game. I actually think the graphics are really good. Do take in mind that this game originated on the PC so the graphics transition to the PS2 was actually done very nicely. The graphics don't focus on "fancy" they focus on "realism" which I think many will agree is the better to strive for. I know they are not the best but the gameplay is so good that I never cared.

Sound - Ok this part is cool. All the guns sound different, as they should, but so do bullets at different distances. A bullet wizzing by your head sounds like, well, a bullet wizzing by your head and guns blazing in the distance sound cool and give you the feeling your being shot at. Now, maybe it sounds like I'm getting excited over nothing but trust me, if you crank this game through a good sound system, it'll rock.

Gameplay - The gameplay is very diverse. No two levels look alike or play alike making no levels a waste of time or give you the feeling that you've played it before. I really wanted to see this game through and couldn't put it down for the longest time. Everything is so unpredictable and original.

Replayability - Man this game is replayable espiecially due to the mini challenges, various multiplayer modes (including co-op) and second campaign you unlock after beating the first which is 15 missions long and can be played on three different difficulties, that change the amount of enemies and their skills.

I love this game and any "true" war gamer should as well. 10/10

4-0 out of 5 stars Ghost Recon and Desert Siege
This really contains two games listed in the title of this review.Forget what anyone says about this game. It's awsome even without online play.Once you command Bravo squad to go to a certain area and follow them, getting pinned down by machine gun fire from Russian terrorists, you'll realize how tactical it is.You have to check your map and take a secure position on high ground or a concealed area for sniping.Unfortunately the levels that require you to go inside are quit clunky, but the outside levels ranging from the Red Square to desert battlefields are quit superb. The first level is even difficult if you don't realise that as soon as you come over the hill you're getting mowed down be enemy gunfire. It's a game about planning tactical strategy. It's not as stealthy as Socom, but it's definetely more open ended as in completing levels. There's hardly a set path for most of them. It's a really fun game to play through again also. And there are plenty of unlockables.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another!

1-0 out of 5 stars Action/Strategy minus the strategy
    This game is extremely linear.

Clear out a room, move to the next, kill people, move to the next.Occasionally rescue a hostage that has very poor AI and likes to get shot, or defuse a bomb that is in a room previously filled with very stupid terrorists.

The obstacles are static, the enemies are always in the same place, and the only 'strategy' involved is the fact that you can only save twice per level.Talk about realistic, I bet lots of military people wish THEY had a save and a load function (you don't get to save in game in the original Rainbow Six games, which is a good thing).Oh well.

In one level, after clearing your way to a hostage, making as much noise as you like with no repercussions, you take the hostage, who you cannot tell to NOT follow you, to a very large open area.In this area there is another stupid hostage and the only way to move them around is to actually walk into them and push them (a grueling process). You have to wait in this large open area until an evac comes.

Here's a smart idea, let's sit in a big open area while terrorists come at us from every angle while we wait for a helicopter...when we could just go back the way we came, since our cars are outside. The sarcasm should be obvious.

I'm not even going to talk about the next level, which is worse. There are no choices in this game, other than that of weapons, and there is no strategy.I would recommend Rainbow Six (original) for PC, as well as Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear. These games allow you to choose your team(s) of up to 8 men and women, from snipers to demolition experts, to scouts, and designate them on 1 to 4 teams.

In Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear, there is a very detailed plannig phase, where you have a 3D blueprint of your next mission's location, and you can set the path for your teams to follow, via waypoints. There is also a great multiplayer system, where you can compete, or you can co-operate and play the any part of the campaign.

Long story short:Rainbow Six 3 is crap, and I'd think Tom Clancy would be ashamed to have his name on it.The original is greater by far, as is Rogue Spear. As well, as with any first person shooter, the PC version is better.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun to Mess Around With, But Several Small Errors
Being a big fan of tactical games, Rainbow Six 3 was on my to-get list and just recently I picked up my copy.I had a blast with it and still play it despite the fact that I beat it several times. The weapons were veryy accurate in terms of practicality and functionality; I was very pleased that Ubi Soft actually got the technical information of the actual weapons and implimented them correctly instead of making a messed-up array of weapons like the RCP-90 in Golden Eye (Great weapon for a great game).

The graphics are not bad given the time of RBS3's release.Nothing special about them, but they arn't lacking soo much that one begins to notice it.However, the AI is seriously lacking on both the terrorists and your fellow team mates. When you give Zulu (Attack on your command) commands, they can get stuck in corners walk into the given area and get killed in the process. It's really annoying to move them out of your way too.Several times when clearing rooms they'll either jump out in front of me and take a few rounds to the back or they'll stop in the doorway and start shooting like it was a carnival game.

The terrorist AI is also lacking.I could take out someone with a loud .40 S&W handgun and the nearby terrorist will just scratch his head wondering if it was a firearm or if his stomache just made a noise.Other times the terrorist will try to roll away to safety and instead roll towards you and shoot you while rolling... it's really weird.

What also makes me mad is the fact that you need XBox Live in order to do Co-Op.I'm sorry, but I don't feel like paying money in order to play Co-Op.I think it's rediculous and a money-making scheme dreamed by Tom Clancy or Bill Gates.I was escatic to play Conflict: Desert Storm on Co-Op, why can't other games be the same.

Lastly, I hate it when you can only control yourself and not others, much less give individual orders. It takes away from the controlability from the game, thereby being at the mercy of the AI... and we know how much I love the AI.

But nonetheless, I loved playing this game.My favorite thing to do it use phosphorous on the terrorist and watch them burst into flames. It's a really fun game, but these small errors really do add up to a big deal. However, it is still worth getting.

3-0 out of 5 stars Move, move, move... I said MOVE!!
I was a huge fan of rainbow six on the PC and was pretty excited about the console version. I expected it to be a bit more 'arcadey', but having also got Ghost Recon, also expected a similar level of realism and strategy. But all in all I have to say I was pretty disappointed. On the plus side, the game is really well presented, with some good missions, great graphics, and the sound is superb. But it's the gameplay where it fell down for me. For starters all you have is one group - consisting of 4 men, of which you are one, and can only play one - Ding Chavez. One of the best parts of Rainbow 6 on the PC (and indeed the Ghost Recon games on console) is the ability to send different units off to different areas, storm rooms at the same time from multiple angles and give eachother cover fire. With the console version there is none of this. You don't plot waypoints or anything like that, you literally issue orders on the fly. To be honest, that didn't really bother me too much. In fact I quite liked the added sense of on the spot realism this gave the game. You can issue a variety of commands, most of which can also be issued with a 'go' code, so you can do your thing, and then shout to code for them to execute their orders on demand.

But without the advance planning what you really need is some AI to keep the game realistic, and functioning smoothly. Sadly I found this quite poor. There are many niggly problems that are really detrimantal to the game. For staters when you tell your team to move - they don't move to your crosshairs - they move towards them and then fan out into all kinds of stupid positions even taking fire from bad guys, which they wouldn't have done if they'd have stopped where you asked. In a game that essentially relies on stealth tactics, it's like sending an army of chimps into a hostage situation.. This is incredibly frustrating. Opening doors is also extremely irritating. You can't seem to sneak it open without your team attempting to do something. For example, you press the A button and the D pad to open the door slightly to check for badguys, but when you release it you get a 'ROGER, opening door..' in your ear, and the whole team arrives to open the already semi open door.. Also can anyone explain why you can only order your team to flash or frag rooms that have a door?? There were many occasions where I wanted to order a teammember to frag an open room.

Also, it has to be said that the voice recognition is not great. Sometimes I had to actually check to see if the mic was muted after having said MOVE!! about 5 times. In the end I found it was a little more successful if I faked an american accent. So perhaps you guys will be ok... I also noticed that Zulu go codes can result in odd things with voice recognition. You will set the team up to storm a room on a go code, get to your door, issue the go code and they will just move to you, or try and storm the room from your door.. This was not a problem when using the interface.

Enemy AI is also not as good as it ought to have been. Forstarters, in a game that is primarily about stealth, they never run for help, nor seem to get particularly alarmed when you plug one of their accomplices nearby. And how come everyone seems to know that you're coming? An enemy will step out from round a corner, you'll shoot him, and he'll run off. 2 minutes later he will step out from round the corner again, seemingly having completely forgotten there was a team of four camouflaged anti terrorist officers kneeling with big guns waiting there.. Snipers are probably the most ludicrous though. Despite the fact that the enemy effectively has no idea that Rainbow are in the building, they appear to be camped out waiting for you - tiny little spots on distant cranes, that shoot you in the head as soon as you step round a corner. The game is furiously difficult in places.

But it's not all bad. Generally, despite the niggles the game functions really well, (more so if you don't use the headset) and you are rewarded for 'sensible' playing. You can't run around Halo style in Rainbow six, you have to use cover, tread carefully, keep to walls, and not expose the group in wide open spaces. A few shots will kill, so listen to your team mates, and use your different view modes (night vision, and thermal). Whilst it is not as strategic as it's contemporaries, the small level of strategy involved is satisfying enough, particularly when you confuse the enemy by storming a room through two doors etc. Hostages are also dealt with extremely well, you can secure them, or escort them, and the bad guys will not hesitate to kill them if you aren't fast enough.

So all in all, it is more one for those who prefer the arcade side of these style of games than the strategy, and if you can forgive it's shortcomings, it is a good, albeit tough 1st person shooter. ... Read more
