    Editorial Review

Mega Man's exploits have been taking place on a variety ofdifferent platforms for more than a decade, but recent attempts tobring old Mega Man into 3-D have largely been missteps. That's why wewere chomping at the bit to play Mega Man X5, because it marks along-overdue return to MM's 2-D roots.

Unfortunately, the game plays more like a rushed overcorrection than anostalgic, side-scrolling romp. For example, you can now choose betweenthree playable characters: Zero, X, and Fourth. It's a good idea, butthe problem is that the characters are so different that this optionactually destroys the fluidity of the gaming experience. In theoriginal Mega Man X titles, you couldn't progress until youfound a weapon that could be used to destroy a particular boss. InX5, bosses can be put out of their misery with the Z-Saber andthe X-Buster.

But the game's biggest problem is its difficulty. The first law of gamedesign is that a game should provide gradual, continual challenge.X5 just keeps getting easier and easier due to the endlessnumber of checkpoints and unlimited continues. The result is MegaMan with training wheels.

By Mega Man standards, this game is truly a disappointment. Onthe bright side, if you are new to the gaming scene and are looking fora simple game that will help you improve your skills, this game mightbe your cup of tea. For most gamers, though, X5 is way too easy!--Todd Mowatt

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greats
I thought that this was one of the best overall megaman games. When I first played this I was unaware that there was a new character called X because this had been the first Megaman X game I've played.I thought this was pretty challenging (I still can't be that dragon dude uh... what his name). So overall I give it a 4.97 out of 5 and a 9.94 out of 10. (...)

3-0 out of 5 stars The beginning of the end for the X series...
After Mega Man X4 debuted for the PSX back in 1997 (well, there is a Sega Saturn version too, haha), I though I had played the best installment the X series had to offer. So when the sequel came out, a mere two to three years later in 2000, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, the game only delivered an above average experence.

Gameplay wise, all the elements that make up a Mega Man game are present: select a stage, beat boss, gain weapon, take on the next boss, rinse, lather, and repeat. While this is all well and good, and what us Mega Man fans crave, X5 includes is share of problems. Most of the boss enemies are extreme pushovers, as most don't even require any specific strategy, hence you don't even really need to use the weapon they are weak against. Add to this fact Zero can almost crush the entire game with a single attack makes for somewhat shallow gameplay. The boss enemies also have really dumb names (if you know your music you'll realize each Maverick takes its name from the original members once-great band Guns 'n' Roses). Why Capcom ditched the tired and true "ability-animal" names and went with this stupid band member theme is beyond me.

X5's story is the game's highlight. Still I don't know why Capcom didn't choose make use of FMV's like in X4 to tell the story (obviously money was an issue here). Instead we get lame still shots and text telling the story. As far as X5's story climbs, there are some serious holes that hold it back. Add to this that Mega Man X6 ends up ruining any successful, logical, and believable continuation of X5's story, and you realize things are not so well in Mega Man land...

Overall, X5 is good game and a worthy addition to the series. Still, the fact that this game marks the point where Capcom got sloppy with the series will ultimately put Mega Man X5 near the end of most Mega Man fan favorite games lists.

4-0 out of 5 stars megaman classic

The megaman 8 game has awesome originals such aas doc. willy.
it has decent graphics and is overall a blast. megaman could stand to have a bit more powerfull attacks though.

5-0 out of 5 stars 8 and still going strong
If your an older gamer or just someone who likes older game series you have probaly played Megaman (the original series not X,Legends,Zero,or Battle Network) I remember when I first got my NES when I was 5 and Megaman 2 I loved that game and still do so I saw Megaman 8 for playstaition decided I should check up on this series (I'm more of a Megaman X fan) from the opening movie which is shown in stunning anime to the ending credits this game is flawless the story begins with 2 strange robots fighting in the deep reaches of space when they injure each other so bad that they crash land into earth and Megaman heads to investigate when he gets there Dr. Wily (for you noobs Megaman's main enemy) is carrying off one of the robots which has very evil very powerful energy Wily is harnesting so Megaman helps the second robot and heads after Wily so the battle begins with your standard 4 bosses Clownman,Grenademan,Frostman, and Tenguman(my personal favorite) and after they are done your next four appear Swordman,Astroman,Searchman, and Aquaman(not to be confused with the DC comics hero) you Megaman veterans already know where this is going even though the game is standard Megaman format that same format is perfect and if it ain't broke don't fix it

Graphics wise the game rules its 2D but very good looking 2D the enemies and backgrounds are very detailed I could just stare at them all day but I won't but anyway you older gamers will admit this is a huge step up from NES and SNES(remember the old square shots that would pass off as bullets in the old games?) Megamans graphics Megas little pellet shots even look good his charge up shots have detail and just the basic movements of running jumping and sliding look pretty good

Sound hows the sound you ask? Great the music for each stage is good and even the voice acting in the cut scences is nicely matched also having the cut scences in anime was a great idea seeing Bass and Megaman duke it out in anime is really great to see it really makes the carnival level more fun when you have carnival music as your background all also when you're going through a labyrinth in Astromans stage the music really sets the mood for how strange the level is these are just some examples as all the music really does a good job of setting the mood for fun

Fun factor is what makes this game so great is that there are so many diverse challenges in levels and ways of getting around such as snowboarding, flying via the Rush Jet and even swinging on vines in a jungle so many robots to destroy so little time also there are added challenges like finding 40 bolts that Roll (once again for you noobs Megaman's sister) will make upgrades for Megaman with and its not as hard as some other Megaman installments so if you're rusty on the series or new to it this would be a good place to start basic Megaman formula still is around if you beat a boss you obtain his power example: if you beat Clownman you get his power the Thunder Claw even though I have beaten the game several times I still find myself playing it

The Bottom line here is that Megaman 8 is another perfect Megaman game that seems to just get better with every installment that needs to be in everyones Playstaition collection 10/10

By the way for those of you who agree with my review lets hope for Megaman 9 soon

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost classic!
Anyone who was a fan to the old Nintendo Megaman series will enjoy this game.
Just as in the old games, you get to battle eight enemies and in the end, beat them again in Wily tower and defeat the two stages of doctor Wily.
Unfortunately, there are some some cons:
you don't get to use rushjet when you want toand theother rush powers are kinda stupid, and the voices on this game are reallly wimpy.
Power ups are limited, so you should choose carefully.
    Pros:
Good graphics and challanging levels. You won't beat this game without continuing a few times.
You can get power ups when you get enough bolts to buy one.
There are new enemies.Always a plus.
    New and interesting plot.
Memory card, so you don't have to write down passwords.

All in all, it's a great game.Definately worth buying. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Mega Man: Battle Network is not the side-scrolling game that fanshave grown up with, but rather an isometric, role-playing adventure game. Forthose cringing at this evolution, don't despair--with an amazing real-timebattle system, this game should appease even die-hard platform-shooter fans.

In the near future, the Net is connected to virtually everything--from computersto office water coolers. An evil group is bent on dominating the world bycorrupting the Net with viruses. You play as Lan, a young hacker, who must stopthis threat with the help of his virus-busting program (and best friend) MegaMan.exe.

Lan can walk up to just about any object and either use it or get someinteresting (and often funny) information about it. In fact, this kind ofexploration is necessary, because there are Net jacks in the strangestplaces--even a doghouse. And while Mega Man.exe is deployed fighting viruses on the Net,you often have to go out and collect clues in the real world. This teamwork addssome refreshing complexity to the game.

Fans of Pokémon will like the battle chip system. Finding chips andupgrading Mega Man.exe is the name of the game, enabling the program to unleashmore powerful attacks. Battle chips can be sold, traded, and combined intorarer, more powerful chips. In addition, you can link up with a friend and tradechips, or battle for them.

The game's best element, however, is its battle system. Battles occur in realtime, with fast arcade action. Mega Man.exe can lob bombs, shoot his hallmarkcannon, summon other virus-busting programs to his aid, and more--depending onwhich of the 175 battle chips you find and deploy in battle.

Mega Man: Battle Network is a solid performer, but its story is geared toa younger crowd. Still, there's plenty here to satisfy fans of the series.--Bryan Karsh

    Pros:

    • Amazing real-time battle system
    • Trade chips via link cable, or fight for them against a friend's copy of thegame
    • Interactive world in which almost every object has a purpose
    Cons:
    • Story line might be too childish for older players

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun
Mega Man Battlew Network for the GBA is a nice game that is unlike most Mega Man games. In this Mega Man game, you fight on a grid with you on one side and the enemy on another side. On this grid, you can fire as many shots as you want and can choose a special card from a group to use. This is quite fun and most people should enjoy it. When not in battle, you can move around freely and talk to people. You can fight some of the PETs of these people. The plot is pretty basic though there is a small twist. When hooked to the net, you can get into random battles and earn money. There is also a small RPG element present. You can earn upgrades to Mega Man and improve his health, attack, etc. The only problem is that the game can become frustrating if you cannot find out where to go next.

4-0 out of 5 stars megaman rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my opinion, megaman battle network 1 is one of the better games in the series (of course i didn't get to the end of the game but i got pretty darn far). there's many places to jack in, such as lan,s security system (shaped like a doghouse). Many tough bosses such as stoneman. any way you flip the pancake this game is awesome so might i be the first to say jack in!
    Megaman,Excecute!

5-0 out of 5 stars Megaman's first rpg is......a complete success!!
The blue bomber is back in a whole new adventure on the game boy advance but this time he has broken out of his signuture side scrolling action platformer format and has taken on the card battling rpg format???? Well before you megaman fans start yelling listen and read this review to find that this is one of the blue bombers greatest adventures yet.

    Gameplay 10/10
Alright the gameplay is quite strange for Megaman so listin up you switch between Lan (a human kid in the real world) and Megaman EXE (Megaman's newest form a netnavi who goes through cyber space kicking (...)) now in the real world you as Lan go through a normal life in his futuristic world where everything is run by computers but this means viruses are much more in number and can be deadly so it's up to Lan to take Megaman to the electronic device that needs viruses cleared out of it or hostile netnavis as Megaman you use battle chips (microchips that give him weapons and abilities) you can get these through a turn based system a meter fills up and when it does you pick which chip out of five that you randomly pulled (kinda like your hand in a card game) but you are not limited to pulling just one chip per turn you can also make combos by pulling more than one of the same kind of chip of by pulling two chips of the same code. A code is put on the bottom of each chip two chips that have a H code can be played in the same turn even if they aren't the same kind of chip and chips that are the same can be played together even if they are not of identical code by the way new chips (which there are 175) can be obtain from detroying viruses for example if you detroy a dash virus you may get his chip depending on what kind of busting level you get busting level is a rank system which goes from 1-10 and S and you have a better chance of getting a chip if you get a 10 rank rather than a 5 now after you have selected your chips you can fight the viruses in a 3D battle arena which is split up into 18 panels 9 blue panels and 9 red panels you stand on the blue and cannot cross on to the red and and the same applies for you foes on the red you move about dogding attacks while launching your own its strange for Megaman but it works very well aside from battling in cyberspace you will also explore and solve puzzles many of which require you to be both Lan and Megaman to solve them example in cyberspace there is alocked door but it has a passnumber it is based on how many chairs are in Lans classroom in the real world therefore you must become Lan to solve the puzzle. A way this is a rpg is that Megaman can level up but not through exp points he levels up by finding upgrade items such as HPmemories which raises your overall HP (you start with 100) and Powerups which raise your power rapid and charge up powers of your buster these upgrades can be found in various areas of cyberspace or the real world or by buying them from merchants speaking of exploring that is another great thing about this game you can explore areas of cyberspace in just about anything electronic such as vending machines, game systems, tvs, and the most expansive area the internet but you can still explore the real world and interact with the people in the various towns particapate in netbattles where Megaman fights their netnavi and trade battle chips noy to mention while exploring you can try to get all the battle chips in the game. Also old fans will reconize old bosses reborn in this game such as Bombman Iceman Elecman and Protoman.

    Story 10/10
The story begins as you are put into the role of Lan a 5th grader kid who is off to school in his futuristic world that is run completly by computers because of this viruses are larger in numbers and more deadly so much so that destroying them with your netnavi example Megaman is a big course in school on the way to school Lan walks with his freind Mayl who begins to tell him of a hacking net crime organization the world 3 or WWW that is becoming more know throughout the story Lan and Megaman Battle the WWW to stop their evil plans but unlike old Megaman games you don't just pick a boss stage and go there you fight WWW as events unfold in the game.

    Bottom Line 10/10
It will take you at long time to master this game trying to find all the battle chips reaching level 100 and battling WWW will keep you busy for quite awhile. ... Read more

    4-0 out of 5 stars X has gone Xtreme...again...
i never owned xtreme 1 but i played it alittle. i have x1 on snes, rented x2 an x3 along time ago an is disapointing to say that for those who dont know, the bosses r rips from earlier x games which to me isnt really a downside. i thot the dna soul however was a bit cheap but u simply dont hav to buy parts which is a good thing an the reason i hated that is it takes fun from finding boss weaknesses. Playing as zero was quite disapointing but x is pure gold! u can unlock modes an im not tellin ya them all but one mode u get to go against bosses from xtreme 1 an i found them pretty hard (its not every boss tho). Getting armor upgrades DOES NOT make game too cheap an is pretty fun using arm upgrade but difficult at first. This game is fun for on the road an once i felt like i was playing a real mmx game on snes so for those who didnt get to play x1,2, or 3 (shame on u (joking)!) dont worry the bosses r still waiting....slightly easier tho.

2-0 out of 5 stars BAD GAME
This game is a combanation of X1 2 and 3. its pretty fun but way to easy. with using DNA souls to buy upgrades make your charecter way to strong.boss stratgies suck and this is easyer then X5 that pretty sad. still it has the same classic music and graphics. also there a fully playable zero for all you zero lovers out there. you cant duck but thats not a down side. I thick they shoud make Xtreme 3 maybe that would be better. BUT DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AN EASY GAME LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars SUPER GAME BOY COLOR GAME
This is one of the best game boy color games I have gotten. The graphics are awsome the game play is awsome. There are tons of levels to keep your attention for hours. This game has memory so you can save your game and come back. You can play two different modes both as X or his counterpart Zero. X has all the cool guns and you can keep bulding different armor and all. Zero just has a sword. So I have not played Zero much. I think there is one level you need to play Zero to win, though. For me, I am 32, this game is very difficult. I have had the game for a couple of months and have only gotten to the 2nd level. My son beat the game withough any problem though. ... Read more

Mega Man Legends 2 continues the successful 3-D spinoff of the 2-D Mega Man franchise. It features familiar characters from the series, and mixes action-adventure, RPG, and puzzle gameplay. Accompanying Mega Man are Roll, the Bonne family, the Servbots, Data, and Glyde. The story revolves around the recently discovered Sealed Key, which could unlock the Great Legacy--a mystery that could be either a boon or a curse to mankind. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Power House
The first Legends game was pretty good, but this one improves on everything, ten-fold! The graphics and animations are smoother, controls have been made more accurate and it's just an overall better game. I like all they actually tried to make sense of the story (something that dosen't happen to much with capcom games) and all the references to past games. To put it simply, this game is great and no Mega Man fan should be without it.

5-0 out of 5 stars EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE!!!
I loved the first MegaMan Legends, but this one is a ton better!Better graphics: MegaMan's laser blasts don't look like fake digital-style graphics anymore but look more realistic.Explosions look more realistic too.The characters are still boxy looking, but have improved a little.Better story: This game is even longer than the first and unravels a deeper story that also tells of MegaMan's past.More features: Your lock-on target actually "locks-on" to an enemy. The first game just allowed you to look up and find the enemy. It also looks like a target sensor(that's just looks SO cool!).You can finally use the anolog which improves the game a ton!You can travel to 6 different islands instead of just sitting around on one with your ship nearly destroyed.More characters also gives the story more depth such as Glyde, Klaymore, Bola, Bleucher, Mistress Yuna, Gats, Mistress Sera, Geets, and more.So you start off seeing Verner Von Bleucher's ship, the Sulphur Bottom,(probably worth millions)circle the storm on Forbidden Island. It's filled with reporters, but also pirates. The ship is then attacked by a strange flying Reaverbot and a mysterious woman who warns the people to stay away from the island(the story goes even farther, but I won't ruin for you).If you want to buy this game, I highly recommend you play the first MegaMan Legends because if not, you'll really be confused on the sequel.Buy MegaMan Legends, then get the sequel. You'll love them both. You'll really get into the whole storyline.

1-0 out of 5 stars mega man at his worst
I was surprised to play a Megaman game that sucked that bad! The characters from the original are still cool but man... the newer characters and the newer plot just make the game so weird. It is more difficult, more "beat around the bush," a lot more fighting which gets really annoying after a while, and too many things going on at once. If you like that stuff go ahead and get it. I was thoroughly disappointed when I bought this game... I thought it'd be better than the first. What was I thinking?!?! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Capcom started the series out with a boom
I've had this game since 1994 and this is probably one of the best Megaman games I have ever played.I have beat it about 7 times, each time having fun and enjoying the game.

    Story 4/5

The plot of the game is very interesting and pretty exciting. There isn't much talking in this game though, but it's still easy to understand the plot.

    Graphics 4/5

For 1993 these graphics are pretty good. This is the only Megaman X game for the SNES that didn't have a special chip installed in it.The backgrounds and artwork are really nice for Chill Penguin and Storm Eagle's level.

    Music/Sound 5/5

I loved the music in this game.It really went good with the environment of the levels. It seems some of the levels have this dramaticcoming from them. The sound was great too, like in Spark Mandrill's stage, you could hear the sound of the thunderbolts very good when it struck during the fight with the mini boss.

    Gameplay/Control 5/5

The gameplay is really fun in this game. Most people who have played other Megaman games before should get an idea how this game is and will recognize how to use the weapons and trying to get the sub tanks and the heart tanks and the capsules and everything. Alot of people have trouble making long jumps, if you are having trouble, all you need is to press >+Dash+Jump.

    Difficulty 3/5

This one can be hard at times.Alot of the bosses are easy, then again if you don't have the right weapons you can be in for a challenge.Another thing that affects the gameplay is the Sub Tanks and the Heart Tanks. They can be a big help for bosses, especially the final boss, whom is really hard.

    Overall 5/5

I loved this game, and the values are great. It doesn't cost much here on amazon, or at least not as much as Megaman X2 and X3. I recommend this game if you want to purchase it, I suggest you do this, because SNES game are already out of business, and as the years pass by, these will be harder and harder to find.

This game is amazing! It is a GBC port of 2 classic SNES games. It's amazing how you can put this all from the Super NES onto a Game boy color*. When you first play the game, there are four bosses: Chill penguin, Storm eagle, Flame stag, and Spark mandrill. When you beat these Bosses + 4 SIGMA levels, you unlock Hard mode.It won't be easy. (Don't beleive the game, Hard mode is actually EASIER than Normal mode.) In hard mode, you fight these guys: Wheel gator, Armored armadillo, Morph moth, Magna centipede. Oh, and watch out for zain and geemel, THEY'RE BIG TROUBLE without all 4 armor upgrades. Also, there's an attack of every color: Shotgun Ice[Light blue], Storm Tornado[Lavender], Speed burner[Red], Electric Spark[Yellow], Spin Wheel[Green], Rolling Shield[Orange], Silk Shot[Gray], and Magnet Mine[Blue].

**This game works on the original Game Boy.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW
This game is basicly like megamanX1 and 2. Its very fun its got the same first level as X1 and the same last level boss to. but you cant be zero but oh well. hes not the greatest person in the world. this game has lost of challenges. also its got the same classic music and gaffics as X1. This is harder then X5 to tell everyone the truth. Lots of games are easyer then that game. anyway my final words are THIS GAME IS GREAT SO BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars One of the Mega Man series' lows
In early 2000, Capcom finally decided to give its popular Mega Man X series a game on a portable system - the Game Boy Color. The game that was born was Mega Man Xtreme, which featured levels from X and X2 on the Super Nintendo. Read on to see how this game measures up.

    PROS:
-Finally, a portable Mega Man X game! I'm sure fans everywhere had been waiting for one.
-The game allows you to save your progress in a stage - even if the system is turned off!
-There are three different play modes - Normal, Hard, and Xtreme.

    CONS:
-The game is just a port of SNES Mega Man X levels! What a rip!
-The graphics really take a hit. X looks way too SD (for those of you not familiar with anime terms, SD means Super Deformed, meaning the character takes on a "head too big for body" sort of look.)
-The controls flat out bite, since you have to tap forward twice to slide (you don't have a third button to do it with.)
-You open the options menu with Select, not Start.
-Your character often changes the direction he is facing when he gets hit - this is so annoying!

    OVERALL:
Stick with the classic series Mega Man Game Boy games. Porting the X series to the Game Boy was a good enough idea, Capcom just couldn't pull it off as well as we'd all hoped. This is for MEGA MAN DIE-HARDS AND COMPLETISTS ONLY. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Megaman games ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of the best Megaman games ever!!!!!!!Don't be fooled if your looking for a 2-d side-scrolling Megaman game though, because this is not the same as the other Megaman games. The graphics are great for a Playstation game, but the environments are very blocky and blurry. This game is very fun and enjoyable. I would recommend this to every Megaman fan. Overall this is one of the best Megaman games ever!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST MEGAMAN GAMES EVER!
Like I said, this has to be one of the best MegaMan games ever! And what's cool is, it's not the exact same original Megaman or X series.I'ts totally different!A baby was found in some ruins and raised by Barrell Caskett with his granddaughter Roll. He's later named MegaMan and they all go out digs together to make a living. They crash land on a uncharted island that's riddled with ancient ruins.Next, a family a air pirates, the Bonnes, show up and screw everything up for the people trying to find the treasure buried there. The hot babe, Tron Bonne falls in love with MegaMan, but doesn't want to admit it because she's a pirate! This game's got a great storyline that leaves a mysterious impact.I'ts almost like a Zelda game, but futuristic!Another great thing is the awesome weapons you can build and upgrade. The pirates ships and robots are sweet too. They've got unique designs and many destrutive weapons.Near the end of the game, it's kinda confusing and it gets even deeper into the story, but you'll get the hang of it.When I beat the game, I wanted more. But then after the credits went by it read "to be continued".I almost passed out.More Mega Man Legends! Then I thought,"Well, duh!"There has to be another game to explain the entire story and all that confusing stuff MegaMan Juno was talking about(sorry, don't wanna spoil it now do we).Over all, buy this game. The graphics may not be that great, especially for a PS game, and the characters may look like their cardboard, but the story and action is what counts! If like a game that has a mythical or legendary storyline, Mega Man Legends is for you!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not really a Mega Man game
In recent years, Capcom attempted to bring their classic Mega Man franchise into the new millennium. They gave the series a complete makeover, in a number of ways, and thus, the Legends series was born. How does this, the first game in the Legends series, measure up? Read on and see.

    PROS:
-IT'S A FULL 3D GAME. Many fans of the Mega Man series had long been awaiting such a game, and at long last they have one. Well, sort of.
-THERE ARE TONS OF WEAPONS AND ITEMS FOR YOU TO FIND AND USE. The island where the game takes place is filled with ruins which it will take a good deal of time to explore in their entirety.
-THE STORYLINE IS BETTER THAN SOME PEOPLE MAKE IT OUT TO BE. This is NOT really a Mega Man game, but the storyline the game has is an interesting one nonetheless.

    CONS:
-THE BIGGEST CON IS THE MOST OBVIOUS ONE - IT ISN'T REALLY A MEGA MAN GAME! Capcom just used a Mega Man look for many of the characters so that they could sell more games. For shame, Capcom.
-THE GRAPHICS ARE HORRIBLE, EVEN FOR A FULL 3D PLAYSTATION ONE GAME. The characters look like they were made out of paper, and I don't mean that in a good way. The 2D Mega Man games on the Playstation had graphics way better than these.
-THE CONTROLS SUCK. If you want to turn, you have to rotate the camera. This becomes extremely annoying in no time at all. There are also several other control faults.
-THE GAME LEAVES TOO MANY QUESTIONS UNANSWERED. If the series really IS somehow connected to the other Mega Man game series, the game fails to tell you how. Likewise, your character's origin is never explained.

    OVERALL:
Overall this is a good game, but it wasn't really what I was hoping for. That's not to say you won't have any fun with it - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. If you find this game in the budget bin, pick it up. It may surprise you. ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars X2 rules!
This game is, overall, better than the previous X installment. It has a good level of challenge, although once you get the hang of it, the game becomes pretty easy. The weapons, though somewhat dull and uncreative, are still pretty fun to mess around with. For example, changing the weather using your bubble splash, speed burner, strike chain, and crystal hunter in Wire Sponge's stage, and the priceless joy of making Crystal Snail chase his shell around by using the magnet mine on him. This game has awesome replay value, not necessarily cuz of all the secrets, but just because it's so much fun! The graphics are great, not like the first one where there wasn't really definition between colors. One of the best features of the game is the music. The tunes in X were cool, but the tunes in X2 are so cool I've died trying to finger drum along with the music (especially in Flame Stag's level). The only complaint I have about the game is the slow down. I personally think slow down looks pretty neat-o, but only when it's supposed to happen! It's NOT cool, for example, when you're trying to dodge junk being thrown at you by Morph Moth's cocoon form! Fortunately, that flaw is ruled out by the game's overall well roundedness. The gameplay, music, and number of hidden gizmos to find make this game a must have for long time fans and a best buy for people who are new to the series(too bad it's so expensive!).

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost as good as the first- but not quite
Enhanced graphics and gameplay make this game very fun to play. It carries on the story and doesn't really screw it up too bad.

Basically in this installment, you have to rescue Zero's parts from the X-Hunters- a band of outlaw mavericks determined to go through with the "unification" (which of course, we never find out just what the 'unification' is... figures).

    Gameplay:

The air-dash ability is introduced. Nice touch. I really enjoyed the Bubble Crab and Wheel Gator stages. again the music is top notch in this installment. I liked the way that the stage select was formatted, however, I did NOT like the music (if you can call it that)that is played when viewing the stage select screen.

    Gripes:

    -The stage select screen music.
-Defeating certain maverick's stages does NOT alter other stages as with the original X.
    -Story is kind of weak.
-Just exactly what IS the "unification" (we're waiting Capcom).
-X-Hunter stage bosses (well, the X-hunters) are boring bosses. I kind of wish they were a prelude to another stage or more bosses.
-Hey! Look! It's the same transporter room that was in Megaman2... and 3... and 4... and 5... and 6... Not very creative.

    Pluses:

-You get to go back into one of the maverick's stages (Magna Centipede's) for the final confrontation.
    -Cool bosses.
-Replay value (though not as much as the original x).
-Cool weapons. (Though I'm still a bit confused as to exactly what the charged up version of Crystal Snail's weapon is suppossed to do... anyone?).

    Conclusion:

Megaman X2 belongs sitting on a shelf next to megaman x. The last of the really good Megaman X games (sadly).

3-0 out of 5 stars a solid game but not as good as the original
The original Mega Man X for the Super NES is an incredible game and all these years later is still really fun to play, so how does Mega Man X2 stand up?Not as good as the first one. Now, because it's Mega Man, it's at least somewhat fun to play no matter what. But X2 simply isn't as interesting as the first X game.

In X2 you have music less catchy than in the original, weapons that aren't very cool looking (rather horrible, actually), empty levels, and a LOT of frustrating slowdown (most likely because of the special chip in the game).Thankfully the slowdown mostly occurs when you're fighting a boss and not when you're busy dash jumping through the levels.Plus there isn't a snow level to be found in X2, not that that's a big deal or anything.

Plus some minor problems such as the boss explosions are colored blue now, instead of red like in the original.I hope you guys know what I'm talking about because it's hard to explain.I think red is a cooler color for an action game so I'm kind of disappointed with the blue explosions here in X2. Also the final fight with Sigma is a joke.Come on, it's definitely possible to defeat him without needing to use a single sub-tank, and you can carry up to 4 tanks. There's a lot of slowdown fighting him, too.He was pretty difficult in the original but not so in X2.

The good news is that X2 is much more challenging than the original, and also much more challenging than X3.Most of the challenge isn't in the boss battles but collecting those sub-tanks and heart capsules, which are located in hard-to-reach places. Many times in X2 missing a sub-tank or heart capsule results in instant death, even after many hours of practice.I like this. Those early X games need a challenge!

So if you want an X game with really catchy music, fun and neat-looking weapons, levels loaded with a variety of enemies to shoot, and not a lot of slowdown than go with the original Mega Man X.The original beats X2 in nearly every way.

Plus the price for the original is much cheaper. If you are sitting out there angry because X2 is really expensive and you are eager to experience the game, don't worry, it's not as good as the first one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best MMXgame for SNES.
I remember, in the good ol' days, I used to rent this game all the time. I could never beat it though. Then, in the present day, I saw this game in a used game shop for 40$. I saved up my money, and quickly bought it. I popped it in my good ol' SNES, and prepared to relieve old memories.

Graphics 10/10 For an SNES game, this looks great! Lots of colors, and a few 3D images, too. Of course, you can always expect great graphics from Capcom.

    Sound 9/10 mostly unchanged

Music 9.5/10 I hear the music in this game get bashed a lot. Like here:http://www.mmhp.net/GameHints/MMX3.htmlI disagree. The only bad tune was Blizzard Buffalo's. Others were stylish and rockin'.

Gameplay 10/10. Standard, but alternate endings, tons of secrets, and the ability to use Zero in some places, [it is also the debut of his ZSabre!] proves that the 3rd time IS a charm!

    A gem! Worth every penny!

Ps. Please ignore BE Jackson and other morons that gave this poor-@$$scores!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good game, but not worth the price of admission
First off, I would like to say that finding a new, factory sealed Mega man X3 costs over $200 (even a used copy costs just under 130 bucks), so unless you have a lot of money to burn, or absolutely need this game, avoid it.
As far the as the game itself goes, it's not too bad. It marks the very first time you get to play as Zero, and it has more capsules to discover. With all standard Megaman fare in the game, it makes it a solid side scroller. But it also brings us back to reason why this game should be avoided: THE HUGE PRICE TAG! Being standard megaman fare, it just isn't worth the money to shoot bad guys and beat a boss. After all, it is still just a standard side scroller.
All in all, the game is good, but I just feel there should be a better reason for a game to be so expensive.

5-0 out of 5 stars the defining moment in X's history
ther are very few games that are worth this kind of dough. When i looked this one up the price had me spinning! after purchasing this game i have officially topped of my SNES collection, and its impossible to be a hardcore megaman fan without this game. If your a fan of skillful fighting suicide jumps that you actually make, and etc., you may find a warmer welcome with the plain megamans 1 through 7. However if your passion is new bigger weapons that wreak the ultimate havoc on evil, pick this one up, believe the hefty price tag is nothing compared to the smiles this game will put on your face ...
