Mega Man X5 Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (06 February, 2001) list price: $32.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Mega Man's exploits have been taking place on a variety ofdifferent platforms for more than a decade, but recent attempts tobring old Mega Man into 3-D have largely been missteps. That's why wewere chomping at the bit to play Mega Man X5, because it marks along-overdue return to MM's 2-D roots. Unfortunately, the game plays more like a rushed overcorrection than anostalgic, side-scrolling romp. For example, you can now choose betweenthree playable characters: Zero, X, and Fourth. It's a good idea, butthe problem is that the characters are so different that this optionactually destroys the fluidity of the gaming experience. In theoriginal Mega Man X titles, you couldn't progress until youfound a weapon that could be used to destroy a particular boss. InX5, bosses can be put out of their misery with the Z-Saber andthe X-Buster. But the game's biggest problem is its difficulty. The first law of gamedesign is that a game should provide gradual, continual challenge.X5 just keeps getting easier and easier due to the endlessnumber of checkpoints and unlimited continues. The result is MegaMan with training wheels. By Mega Man standards, this game is truly a disappointment. Onthe bright side, if you are new to the gaming scene and are looking fora simple game that will help you improve your skills, this game mightbe your cup of tea. For most gamers, though, X5 is way too easy!--Todd Mowatt Pros:

Mega Man 8 Average Customer Review: CD-ROM list price: $24.99 -- our price: $14.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (36)
Graphics wise the game rules its 2D but very good looking 2D the enemies and backgrounds are very detailed I could just stare at them all day but I won't but anyway you older gamers will admit this is a huge step up from NES and SNES(remember the old square shots that would pass off as bullets in the old games?) Megamans graphics Megas little pellet shots even look good his charge up shots have detail and just the basic movements of running jumping and sliding look pretty good Sound hows the sound you ask? Great the music for each stage is good and even the voice acting in the cut scences is nicely matched also having the cut scences in anime was a great idea seeing Bass and Megaman duke it out in anime is really great to see it really makes the carnival level more fun when you have carnival music as your background all also when you're going through a labyrinth in Astromans stage the music really sets the mood for how strange the level is these are just some examples as all the music really does a good job of setting the mood for fun Fun factor is what makes this game so great is that there are so many diverse challenges in levels and ways of getting around such as snowboarding, flying via the Rush Jet and even swinging on vines in a jungle so many robots to destroy so little time also there are added challenges like finding 40 bolts that Roll (once again for you noobs Megaman's sister) will make upgrades for Megaman with and its not as hard as some other Megaman installments so if you're rusty on the series or new to it this would be a good place to start basic Megaman formula still is around if you beat a boss you obtain his power example: if you beat Clownman you get his power the Thunder Claw even though I have beaten the game several times I still find myself playing it The Bottom line here is that Megaman 8 is another perfect Megaman game that seems to just get better with every installment that needs to be in everyones Playstaition collection 10/10 By the way for those of you who agree with my review lets hope for Megaman 9 soon
All in all, it's a great game.Definately worth buying. ... Read more Asin: B00002STJH |

Mega Man Battle Network Average Customer Review: Video Game (18 October, 2001) list price: $39.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Mega Man: Battle Network is not the side-scrolling game that fanshave grown up with, but rather an isometric, role-playing adventure game. Forthose cringing at this evolution, don't despair--with an amazing real-timebattle system, this game should appease even die-hard platform-shooter fans. In the near future, the Net is connected to virtually everything--from computersto office water coolers. An evil group is bent on dominating the world bycorrupting the Net with viruses. You play as Lan, a young hacker, who must stopthis threat with the help of his virus-busting program (and best friend) MegaMan.exe. Lan can walk up to just about any object and either use it or get someinteresting (and often funny) information about it. In fact, this kind ofexploration is necessary, because there are Net jacks in the strangestplaces--even a doghouse. And while Mega Man.exe is deployed fighting viruses on the Net,you often have to go out and collect clues in the real world. This teamwork addssome refreshing complexity to the game. Fans of Pokémon will like the battle chip system. Finding chips andupgrading Mega Man.exe is the name of the game, enabling the program to unleashmore powerful attacks. Battle chips can be sold, traded, and combined intorarer, more powerful chips. In addition, you can link up with a friend and tradechips, or battle for them. The game's best element, however, is its battle system. Battles occur in realtime, with fast arcade action. Mega Man.exe can lob bombs, shoot his hallmarkcannon, summon other virus-busting programs to his aid, and more--depending onwhich of the 175 battle chips you find and deploy in battle. Mega Man: Battle Network is a solid performer, but its story is geared toa younger crowd. Still, there's plenty here to satisfy fans of the series.--Bryan Karsh Pros:

Mega Man X2 Average Customer Review: Video Game US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (10)
Basically in this installment, you have to rescue Zero's parts from the X-Hunters- a band of outlaw mavericks determined to go through with the "unification" (which of course, we never find out just what the 'unification' is... figures). Gameplay: The air-dash ability is introduced. Nice touch. I really enjoyed the Bubble Crab and Wheel Gator stages. again the music is top notch in this installment. I liked the way that the stage select was formatted, however, I did NOT like the music (if you can call it that)that is played when viewing the stage select screen. Gripes: -The stage select screen music. Pluses: -You get to go back into one of the maverick's stages (Magna Centipede's) for the final confrontation. Conclusion: Megaman X2 belongs sitting on a shelf next to megaman x. The last of the really good Megaman X games (sadly).
In X2 you have music less catchy than in the original, weapons that aren't very cool looking (rather horrible, actually), empty levels, and a LOT of frustrating slowdown (most likely because of the special chip in the game).Thankfully the slowdown mostly occurs when you're fighting a boss and not when you're busy dash jumping through the levels.Plus there isn't a snow level to be found in X2, not that that's a big deal or anything. Plus some minor problems such as the boss explosions are colored blue now, instead of red like in the original.I hope you guys know what I'm talking about because it's hard to explain.I think red is a cooler color for an action game so I'm kind of disappointed with the blue explosions here in X2. Also the final fight with Sigma is a joke.Come on, it's definitely possible to defeat him without needing to use a single sub-tank, and you can carry up to 4 tanks. There's a lot of slowdown fighting him, too.He was pretty difficult in the original but not so in X2. The good news is that X2 is much more challenging than the original, and also much more challenging than X3.Most of the challenge isn't in the boss battles but collecting those sub-tanks and heart capsules, which are located in hard-to-reach places. Many times in X2 missing a sub-tank or heart capsule results in instant death, even after many hours of practice.I like this. Those early X games need a challenge! So if you want an X game with really catchy music, fun and neat-looking weapons, levels loaded with a variety of enemies to shoot, and not a lot of slowdown than go with the original Mega Man X.The original beats X2 in nearly every way. Plus the price for the original is much cheaper. If you are sitting out there angry because X2 is really expensive and you are eager to experience the game, don't worry, it's not as good as the first one. ...
