4-0 out of 5 stars Lizard and Black Cat
I have been playing this game for days straight and I have to say it is well made. The swinging and diving is the best part.

Some things that were a bummer is that Lizard IS NOT in the game. One of the help markers says that it is just a rumor and not true. And I know that this is not in the comic but I wanted Spiderman to begin dating Black Cat and dump his other girlfriend. Lol. Another bummer is I wish spiderman could swim. I mean anyone really could learn to swim and if you were a hero you should. Lastly the fact that you can't get to the other island from the bridge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very high-quality game
This is one of my favourite games ever.

It's not quite perfect, though (might as well start with the cons so I can end on a good note). For one thing, while the action graphics (as in, while you are actually playing the game) are superb, for some reason the cut-scene graphics are horrible. Characters are square-looking, glitchy (Peter Parker shakes uncontrollably whenever he makes a hand gesture), poorly defined and generally irritating to look at. Also, the anonymous characters' (random passersby, etc.) voice dubs are rather annoying as well.

Apart from that, however, I have to say I love this game. Its best aspects are definetely the controls and camera angles. The controls are a bit complicated at first (although I've seen worse), but there is a clear tutorial at the beginning of the game and, once you get the hang of it, it's smoooooooth sailing. Actually, the basic controls are pretty easy, it's up to you if you want to learn the combos and the more fancy tricks. Spider-man's movements are incredibly fluid and pleasant to look at and New York City has been recreated in very great detail. The game has the same format as Grand Theft Auto, which means you can take breaks in between missions and just explore the city and do smaller missions or just swing around as much as you like. And the camera angles are very well-placed, which makes this game a real visual treat (apart from the cut-scenes): you'll be impressed by views of the sun setting over the Hudson river, seen from the top of the Empire STate Building - and then, jump and stop yourself at the last minute and see if your head doesn't spin and your doesn't heart race just a little... That alone is worth the price of the game.

Also, the dubbing by Tobey Maguire et al. is a nice touch and the dialogue isn't too bad (although they could have chosen a less used line than "He did kill my father, someday I'll get him for it, too." - but hey, let's not nit-pick) and the narrator's snide comments to the gamer are pretty funny and set a good atmosphere. There are tips and challenges scattered all over the city, too, in case you want a change of pace.

I haven't finished this game yet (I love video games, yet I'm really quite bad at them). I'm having some trouble with a particular mission, but I don't think this game is that difficult, it's a matter of practice. At any rate, it's a LOT of fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hmm. Interesting.
    Simple as this:

    Buy it for the city-slingin'-action

    It's amazing..

The story and acting is quite lame .. but its worth the money if you can get it for a few bucks.

It may be repetitive ( like most games ) but its worth the money ... Read more

Spider-Man is a third-person action game based on the Marvel comic series. You play as Spider-Man, high-school student Peter Parker, who is bitten by a radioactive spider and granted tremendous powers. In highly detailed environments inspired by the 2002 feature film, Spider-Man must use his spider-sense to sidestep danger, his spider-agility and quick wits to evade pursuit, and his spider-strength to overcome the Green Goblin and other archenemies in his pursuit to rid the world of evil. Climb up the sides of buildings, shoot webs, and swing across the night sky, taking on a legion of sinister villains in a 3-D world. Scorpion, Venom, and Rhino are just some of the notorious bosses you'll encounter in your travels. The city is depending on your every move. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars meh.
I must say, I was extremely disappointed when I brought this home and fired it up.The graphics are bad, the control setup is awkward at best, the cutscenes look horrible, and, above all, it's SHORT.I beat it in about four or five hours.I admit, it was kind of fun throwing chairs around and shooting webs ('kind of' being the key phrase), but it's nowhere near fun enough to make up for the rest of the game. It's cheap, but I wouldn't even pay five dollars for this.Don't waste your money.

By the way, I'm 17, but I don't have an account so I had to use the kids thing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Revolutionary game, revolutionary character.
I played this game first on a demo-disc for Playstation, and I knew I had to have it. Swinging from webs, tying guys up with webs, punching people with webs, what could be better? From the start I was swinging from buildings and falling to the streets of New York City. Now for the review.
The sound... Was OK. Nothing great. An occasional... no, it doesn't even deserve that much. Play a CD in the background. It will be better than this game's music.
The gameplay was nothing less than revolutionary. This game gave you freedom to roam around NYC, no matter how small the environments were. While it's length was it's downfall, It was great to fight Carnage and Venom along with many other characters.
Graphics. Ok, but who really cares when you can crawl on ceilings and hear guards ask each other "Do you have a smoke?" "Not now man."

4-0 out of 5 stars Could be longer
Great game but the whole family beat it in a weekend. More levels would get it the five star rating. ... Read more

Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace is the first Spider-Man game to be featured on the Game Boy Advance platform. Set in New York, the game lets you assume the role of Spider-Man as you take on supervillain Mysterio and his illusory tricks. You must fight a slew of Mysterio's sinister conspirators and gadgetry to get to the bottom of the plot and free New York from Mysterio's mind-warping grip. Special attacks, multiple power-ups, suit upgrades, and old Spidey standbys (like wall crawling and webslinging) make playing as Spider-Man a fan's dream come true. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This game was fantasctic
I got this game and it was great. But for people that are reading this who have a nintendo ds, listen up. If you put in the ds version of spiderman 2 while game boy advance wirsion of Mysterio's menace is in aswell, you will be able to unlock all of spidey's moves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spiderman Mysterio's Menace great game I recommend
Vicarious Visions and Activision , the greatgame companies who made Spiderman for thePlaystation and Dreamcast, once again teamup to make the successful "Spiderman Mysterio's
    Menace" for the Gameboy Advance.

Out of all the portable consoles in history, the Gameboy Advance, has probably the bestlineup of games I've seen, and you can addthis game to that list.

    ------
    Story
    ------

Peter Parker (Spiderman) is talking to hisgreat love Mary Jane, when he sees on the tv,that a great number of crimes are beingcommitted in New York.

Spiderman then must try to stop the criminalsand try to bring peace and safety toNew York City.Spiderman though will have his hands, as hemust fight a number of formidabble and familiarenemies that Spiderman fans will recognizne.
The lineup of enemies include "HammerHead", "Rhino", "Mysterio", and a gang machine gun happy gangsters and deadly ninjas.

Even making the game that more challengingis the fact that in several areas of the gameSpiderman must rescue a group of hostages.

    Graphics 10:

Spiderman games have come a long way sincethe first Spiderman came out from ParkerBrothers for the Atari Systems.

From the Genesis system to Supernes, to Gameboy
Color, to the Gameboy Advance, to the Playstation, each Spiderman has constantlygotten better in the area of graphics.
The graphics in this game are gorgeous, wonderful 2d and 3d graphics are echoed throughout the game.

"Rhino", "Hammerhead" and others look likecomic book counterparts. There are really 3 great graphics area in the game, and they are done very well.First is the intro of the game which is excellently done with a nice blend of music.the intro looks extremely cool, because it looksvirtually an animation of the comic book.

The 2nd graphics area is stats screen. Thestats screen reveals in what area Spiderman is,how much webbing Spiderman has left, and otherdetails.

The 3rd area in the game are the missionand intermission screens. These scenes are all 2 dimensionally animated
in true color form and they look gorgeous on the screen.
Overall, I was not only suprised by the great
graphics for the game, but I was impressed.

    Sound and Music: 7

The sound and music in Spiderman, just likethe graphics for the game are extremely good,in fact it was better than I expected!!!

Everything from Spiderman's "spider senses" to"Rhino" growl and killer attacks, all comewith their individual sounds.

Overall the sound in "Spiderman MysteriosMenace " is very well done.

The music is divided into different areas ofgame: The levels of the game, come with different tunes and soundtracks.

The stat screen in the game also comeswith it's own music.

The best music in the game, that I loved wasthe intro at the beginning, it mean it just really cool!! In fact, it had me jazzed upto play the game.

    --------------
    Control 7
    ------------

I was extremely satisfied with the controlsfor this game.

Unlike the Playstation and Dreamcast versions of Spiderman, which can get a bit frustratingthe control for "Spiderman Mysterio's Menace"is virtually perfect.

    Wow!!!

Spiderman has a variety of moves, combos and
special abilities that can you do.

    First is Spiderman's web slinging.

Simply by tapping the A button twice, Spidermancan swing from building to building with ease. You can also websling and attack enemies atthe same time!!!

This has many advantages of the game, asmany enemies are at angles, or high altitudesin the game.

Spiderman's combos, consists of a regular punch,
a superpunch, and a great uppercut. You also have a regular kicking, a sweeping kickand a great jump kick (which can you doas you are webslinging!!!!)

Pressing the Start Button reveals the statsscreen which reveals, the area Spiderman is, along with his web supply, the areas Spidermanhas completed, and the number of hostages
    Spiderman has rescued.

Overall, I was very pleased with the controls.Activision and Vicarious Visions did a greatjob in this area.

    -----------
    Overall 9
    ------------

I gave "Spiderman Mysterio's Menace" a 10 because virtually all areas of the gamewere excellent done.

Activision has continually improved the Spiderman games that they done have done over years. There are also many challenging enemies in the game. I also like the fact, that game companies
included many of Spiderman's foes like"Hammerhead", "Mysterio", and "Rhino".

"Spiderman Mysterio's Menace" is just a greatgame, and I highly recommend the game toany Spiderman fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!
This game is one of the best I've ever played. The gameplay is great, the graphics are amazing, and it is a game you can just pick up and play. The only thing I disliked was that I beat the whole game (and got all the power-ups) in less than 4 hours. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Spiderman Game Boy
my 12 year old son bought this with Christmas money. He loves the game and it has renewed his interest in his 3 yr. old Game Boy....wanted to get Game Boy advance but we discouraged.Great seller, fast transaction

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as one would think
Before Spider-Man became a box office smash and became everyone's favorite hero, Activision changed the way super hero licensed video games would be by releasing the surprisingly great Spider-Man games for the PS1, N64, and Dreamcast.Eventually a GameBoy Color version would be released, and while it's nowhere near anything great, it is surprisingly solid and challenging. The graphics are typical 8-bit side scroller fare, but are colorful and well animated.Controls are simple and the enemies (especially Venom) are very challenging. This game is also surprising in the fact that it is more solidly realized than any other 8-bit or 16-bit home console game that was nothing more than a repetitive beat 'em up with a comic license attached to it.All in all, those who only have a GameBoy Color and are fans of the web head should give this a whirl.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best Gameboy colour game.
It is too hard but it is still miles ahead of anything else on the Gameboy colour. I am not that good at hanhelds but I manged to get pretty far in the game and I have beaten Venom, The Lizard, Hobgoblin and Venom again. I am now fighting Venom a 3rd time and have found I can't beat him. The birdds are also pesky too. But it helps that the better you play the more points you get which gives special moves which makes fighting a hell of a lot easier. I have had a lot of fun with this game and as soon as I learn how to beat Venom again I will no doubt have more fun with it. ... Read more

Spidey is back on the Game Boy in Activision's sequel, featuring the dastardliest team of Spider foes imaginable. The fiendishDoctor Octopus orders his Sinister Six (Sandman, Mysterio, Kraven theHunter, the Vulture, and Scorpion) supervillain team to kidnap PeterParker in an effort to lure Spidey to his rescue (Parker is, of course,Spider-Man, but they don't know that). Instead they find and snatch hisvenerable Aunt May, and soon Spider-Man is hot on their trail.

Like the previousSpider-Man GameBoy title, Spider-Man 2: The Sinister Six takes place on atwo-dimensional series of battlefields. Spidey can wall-crawl, stick toceilings, punch, kick, and jump, and shoot webs. He can also web-swingfrom platform to platform. They've given him a few new moves that lethim do leaping attacks, and a power-up that makes him invulnerable. Theaction begins on the docks and moves to other locations, such as awarehouse and office building. A supervillain boss defends each stage;figuring out how to defeat his cronies will keep you on your toes.

The gameplay is simple, but Spidey has a nice array of powers that keepthe combat and movement interesting. The game features 18 levels andcountless thugs to beat up. Cool comic-book-style cutscenes bookendeach level nicely.

Fans of the webhead will be delighted to face off against so many ofthe wall crawler's cooler rogues gallery in a single game. Plus, thecolorful yet minimalist graphics don't disappoint, as Spidey is drawnlarger this time around and moves quite easily. But the game's bestselling point is the creativity found in the simple yetfun-to-swing-around-in level design. --Andrew S. Bub

    Pros:

    • Faithful to the hero and the comics
    • A good variety of boss villains
    • Excellent level design
    Cons:
    • Repetitive action
    • No replay value

I really loved the other spider-man games and I bet this one is just as good!!!

    3-0 out of 5 stars It's good
Crawl, punch, and swing your way to the top in the newest superhero
rumble Spiderman2: The Sinister Six for GBC. As Spidey, you are called upon to save a kidnapped auntie M (aunt May for those of you who aren't familiar) from the many-tentacled clucthes of Doc Ock. All of Spidey's powers are yours to use, including the ability to cling to walls, super strength, speed, and web-slinging and more. Spiderman 2 contains game play similar to its PS1 cousin, with suberb graphics and sound rounding out and impressive title.

5-0 out of 5 stars A RARE CLASSIC
this is without a doubt on of the best spider-man games i have played. for some odd reason it only saw limited release in the us. not all stores i checked had it. infact of the 6 states i checked (michigan, new york, calafornia, florida, maine, and ohio) no state had this game in a full supply. i was suprised to see it here for sale. even major game softwere sites don't offer it. some i e-mailed said it never existed. the gameplay is great, but only if you like classic side scroller's. the sound is ok, and the graphics aren't as eye straining as i thought they would be. it is the the second best spider-man title ever made for any game boy system. over shaddowed only by mysterio's menace for GBA. and sence gameboy advance (gba) is not as common to peoiple as game boy color i highkly recomend this game. this title unlike the first installment of the activision spider-man series is exclusive to the gbc (game boy color) and is one of the best titles made for the system. sence it is somewhat rare i would pick up a copy here at amazon.com while they last. and no they didn't pay me to say that. :) seeya lated. ... Spider-Man wasa huge PlayStation hit (it subsequently appeared onboth the Dreamcast and PC) because it finally allowed superhero actiongames to get out of their 2-D beat-'em-up ruts and into the 3-D world. And now the original game's sequel is more than good enough to catchPlayStation gamers in the web once more.

Enter Electro's story follows the plans of that nefarious,electricity-spewing bad guy Electro, who's trying to tap an energysource that'll make him much more powerful and dangerous. After atraining level that familiarizes you with the game's controls (and newabilities such as the web-grab, where Spider-Man can send out a web andpull an object back toward him), you must web-swing around New YorkCity and stop Electro, his goons, and various other villains fromSpidey's infamous rogue's gallery. The cast of heavies include theShocker, Hammerhead, the Sandman, the Lizard, and a few others from thefirst game.

The plot this time out is a little tighter than the last game's mix ofstories, and the game draws on the villains' well-known personas tomake each encounter interesting. Again, Spider-Man creator Stan Leenarrates the story in his inimitable style, and the voice acting isstrong throughout. You can also seek out a few classicSpider-Man covers hidden throughout the game.

Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro is a great sequel; it adds quite afew new tricks and villains, and succeeds in terms of story and plot.It does carry over some of the camera problems from the first game, itdepends a bit too much on puzzlelike gameplay, and the save system isstill stingy enough to be annoying (you can only save between levels),but webheads out there aren't going to care, and it's nice to see suchstrong properties are still being released for the good old PlayStationOne. --Bob Andrews

    Pros:

    • New boss villains
    • New powers, tricks, and goodies
    • Same true-to-the-comic gameplay
    Cons:
    • The camera is still erratic
    • The save system can be annoying

5-0 out of 5 stars This an maximum carnage are top two spidey games.
My friends and i would play this all the time when i rented it. Its a beatem up, co-op (duznt get better than that!) where one player is spidey an the other is VENOM! I was always stuck being spidey but i didnt care. You beat up people like in Spiderman Venom Maximum carnage (the prequel to this game). You fight other sympiotes quite like venom in this game because venom has been captured by the "foundation" where he was somehow duplicated into five symbiotes that will try to pair up with a human and knowing what Carnage can do (a human with symbiote villian kinda like venom but he is more evil, insane, and red) and you gotta stop em oh unless you want to deal with carnage and his symbiote gang... (venom escaped before being destroyed by the duplicated symbiotes). all what i remember is this level where your on the streets like in maximum carnage beaten people up, then you fight this robot, an this jungle level where you fight dudes in suits...Oh an this level where your on some highway, swinging over cliffs an stuff. No doubt its one of the best spiderman games ever made.I will most likely come back an tell ya more, in the mean time... Get this game! Its also on the SNES but hella rare to get on that system! -Isaac

Oh and if/when the next person reads this review, can you please answer if you like to be spiderman or venom in this game and why? thx i would luv to hear your opinions!

5-0 out of 5 stars Return of the Sinister Six is so Fun!
Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six is a huge improvement from the first Spider-Man game, Game Gear released. You get to battle a villain through each level, like Electro, Sandman, Mysterio, The Vulture, Hobgoblin, and Doc Ock! The gameplay is so cool; you're able to grab power-ups, climb walls, swing through the air using Spidey's webbing, and shoot attack webs. The controls are easy to get used to and the villains are fairly easy to beat! I find Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six an easy, fun, yet challenging game! You gotta buy it!

3-0 out of 5 stars It's okay for a platformer...
This is okay. The graphics are decent and the gameplay is easy. The 2-D effects aren't a bother for once. It's your average game and not much to get too excited about. You do get to shoot webs but it's no different than shooting lasers in Super Star Wars. This is unique, though even if it is based on a kiddy comic book. You can climb on walls and get itty bitty power-ups and sometimes power-ups that are really dangerous mines. But you intelligent and you can probably figure it out. Just not a very whoopdey doo game for a Game Gear relaease. Try it for your self. ... Read more

    4-0 out of 5 stars Great plot!Bad guys!What could go wrong?The X-Men.
Spidey's new adventure on the S-NES was a very good gamewith an exciting plot and they remebered his Spidey sense too! But the X-Men were a bad touch. It could had been more exciting by taking them out and putting in Venom, Doc Ock, Carnage,The Lizard, The Green Goblin, Scream, and Shocker.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A challenge!
Spiderman is a very good game. Despite it's below par graphics it has some great levels. One thing I found frustrating was the difficulty of this game. The levels are very long and have many twists and turns (a good and bad trait). Another thing I loved was that it made me feel like I had Spider Strength!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a classic...
I can remember playing this game when I was a youngin'. This is a classic. It features many differnt facets of Spidey-life, and you are very much Peter Parker as you are Spider Man. This may be just another side scroller beat'n'bash game, but it's a derned innovative and fun one. Check it out!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Spider-Man's best
Spider-Man has been in a lot of games in his career, from his first adventure on the Atari to the recent game for the Playstation. Between the two, this Genesis game came out and it didn't exactly set the gaming world on fire. What you're looking at here is a very average game that doesn't do our friend Spidey justice. The gameplay is just too bland and repetitive for it to be fun. While it does have plenty of his best villians, it doesn't make it any more enjoyable. Graphics are good, sound is okay, but there are better games out there. Sadly, the Playstation Spider-Man game has been the only game to truly capture what Spidey's all about. If you have a Playstation, pick that one up. But for you Genesis owners, you're out of luck. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Spider-Man: The Movie brings your friendly neighborhood web slinger to life with engrossing realism, proving that a superhero game of such complex nature can be achieved with nearly flawless and nonintrusive gameplay. Be it wandering the city's environs in search of villains, or just checking out your surroundings by web-swinging high above them, you truly can do whatever Spider-Man can. It's all here: high-flying aerial battles, the ability to web up and yank your enemies close for pummeling, and the capacity for crawling or web-zipping up, down, and over any surface--and that's just for starters. All in all, this is one involved game that does not fail to live up to the hype.

The game parallels the motion picture's story line, steering you through a progression of challenges that begins with the hunt for Uncle Ben's murderer, and ends with a final showdown with the Green Goblin. You begin as Peter Parker dressed in his wrestling costume and must defeat a variety of thugs throughout each level before advancing to the next set of challenges. The game gets progressively tougher as you encounter, in turn, Shocker, the Vulture, Scorpion, and, of course, the Green Goblin.

Visually, Spider-Man is a treat: cityscapes unfold in realistic detail and are enhanced by sunlight shining between buildings; cutscenes offer seamless animation; interiors are painstakingly re-created; and Spider-Man and his enemies are well rendered, moving about the screen in clean fashion. As an added bonus, most characters are voiced by their movie counterparts, and the training mode features the sarcastic wit of Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell. --Larry White

    Pros:

    • Detailed controls bring Spider-Man to life
    • Challenging gameplay enhanced by numerous fight styles
    • Stunning visuals at every level
    Cons:
    • Camera angles slow to respond at times
    • Some interiors too dark
    • Repetitive one-liners

2-0 out of 5 stars Pathetic
This game isn't nearly worth what I payed for it. The camera for the game is backwords and you can't fix it, and it has other camera glitches that get very irritating. I decided to get a cheat so I could play the last level instead of wasting my time, but five minutes looking for the cheat wasn't worth playing the last level. I beat spider-man 1 for the playstation 1 at least 7 times and I would recommend it instead of spider-man the movie if you have a playstation 1. (...)

2-0 out of 5 stars im sorry this games pathetic
its waaaaaaay to simple it takes 5 minute a mission thats 5 times 22 it equals 110 minutes of gameplay that not even two hours.even oon hard mode its simple.Im sorry i just dont understand why it got peoples choice but i hate it. but the graphics are all right and the fighting is all right thats why it got 2 stars. But its just way to simple even on hard mode.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maximum fun!
In this game, you must play as Spider-man and/or Venom and defeat the psychotic Carnage and his band of super villains.Along the way, you get help from characters such as Captain America and Firestar. The graphics are great and the moving comic strips pull the story along in a flowing manner.A must have for any Spider-man or Marvel fan.

3-0 out of 5 stars One of the better comic licensed games of the 16 bit era
When you look at the painstakingly long list of comic licensed games that were released for the 16-bit systems of years ago, most were basically just walk from left to right while beating up countless generic villians in a game which lacks any kind of spirit or feel of the comic it is based from and is pretty much Streets of Rage with a comic license attached to it (notably most of which were published by Acclaim or one of their other publishing divisions). Maximum Carnage is based on the mid-nineties massive event that took place in the Spider-Man comics in which Spidey had to team up with Venom to take on Carnage in a ravaged New York. In the game, you can play as Spidey or Venom, and you pretty much do all as I described above, and thats about it. Almost none of these games had any kind of save feature, and Maximum Carnage is one of these games, and it is a painstakingly long game to finish and does offer some high difficulty. Maximum Carnage's few saving graces are the game's music provided by Green Jelly (although it sounds a bit generic at times considering the Genesis didn't have the best soundchip imaginable) and the fluid and colorful graphics. There are a few guest appearances from other heroes (Firestar, Captain America) and you've got some tough villians in Carnage, Shreik, Doppleganger, and Demogoblin, but other than that Maximum Carnage is only a bit better than the heap of comic licensed 16-bit beat 'em ups.
