A Terrible Excuse of a Game
Mortal Kombat Advance was released years ago, but as long as the game remains on the market, people should be warned of the utter disgrace of a title they may one day consider.If you're reading this because that day has come, heed my words closely: There is no legitimate reason to buy Mortal Kombat Advance.None.

Midway was once well-known as a failure in making handheld versions of their popular, arcade-quality titles.Mortal Kombat Advance is one of these.The game is filled with bugs, making the easiest difficulty as ridiculous as it is inconsistant, then almost impossible on any difficulty from the default up.If you're still playing the game after a half-hour or so, it's probably to figure out how to beat anyone in the higher difficulty levels; simply put, it isn't.The game just wasn't made well enough to offer fair play against CPU, and if that's all you've got for play options, then your experience is going to be the worst possible.

The rest of MKA's elements are a mixed bag.The graphics are standard for classic Mortal Kombat games, but the animation is subpar, giving it the air a bad SNES port.The same goes for sound, which is minimal, and music, which is poor if even existent.There really isn't anything for this game to fall back on; not only is it shamefully unimpressive in its gameplay, but it's an embarrassment to hear and see, too.

The only thing this game is even remotely good for is two-player combat.There are over 20 "Kombatants," giving players plenty of characters to keep things mixed up.Not having to deal with the AI is a plus, but the bugs make it difficult to execute moves; consequently, fights are reduced to button-mashing and desperate attempts to pull off combos and special moves, which may or may not even work.This too may ultimately leave you frustrated, especially since the prospect of playing two-player meant TWO copies of this game were purchased; that's simply two too many.

Midway has learned its lesson since releasing Mortal Kombat Advance, releasing far better titles in MK: Deadly Alliance and MK Tournament Edition.Again, if you're even considering Mortal Kombat Advance, do yourself a favor and don't.There are plenty of better options out there.

MKA = UMK3
Its umk3 potable and ruined. It could have been so easy to finally come out with a good mk game on gameboy. the graphics and sound are incredible, and the number of players is nice, but pnce again the game play is sooo bad. It is extermely hard, and very boring. The people move so slow and its almost impossible to win. They should take the old mk2 for the old gb and port it to gba with color and bloo(sorta like the gg version) that would be a thousand times better.

I buy EGM alot and I read all their reviews but something
caught my eye. Mortal Kombat Advance got a O.O out of 10.
I read the review of it and began to laugh one reviewer quoted,
"Mortal Kombat is a stinking pile of bloody dog krap!"
While another quoted, "I'd rather be locked in solitary

Golden Sun is the first original role-playing game for the GameBoy Advance to appear in the U.S. And despite perhaps a too-familiar story line,Golden Sun's jaw-dropping graphics, deep magic system, and uniquemultiplayer arena mode truly show that the Game Boy Advance is capable of aserious RPG.

Game developer Camelot (which also made the legendary Shining Force series forthe Sega Genesis, and, more recently,Mario Golf andMario Tennis for theNintendo 64) designed Golden Sun from the ground up to take advantage ofthe GBA's horsepower, and it shows. Sharp, vivid landscapes, detailed towns anddungeons, and awesome weather effects--it looks like a Super Nintendo game withsome extra zing squeezed onto a handheld system. Fans of Secret of Manaor Chrono Trigger will appreciate the feel of this game.

But the game's greatest strength is its magic system. Your characters each havetheir own latent psychic abilities based on one of the four elements of alchemy(earth, water, wind, and fire). The characters will be called upon to use theirindividual forms of telepathy and telekinesis to solve various puzzles in thegame. Also, you can collect Djinn (elemental spirits) and link them to yourcharacters. Not only can these Djinn be summoned in battle, they can alsobolster or hinder your characters' latent psychic abilities, give them specialattacks, and even change your characters' class. This system is similar toFinal Fantasy VIII's guardian system, though far more intuitive and easyto master.

Golden Sun employs a basic turn-based battle system, but it has amazingspell and fighting techniques that really take advantage of the GBA'stechnology. The game achieves a nice balance between flashy attacks and thebrevity of these same attacks--a lesson the makers of other RPGs should learn.Battles are beautifully and quickly fought, and don't overtax the gamer.

The game also has an addictive arena mode in which players can fight monstersthey've already encountered in the game. Players can also link up with anotherGBA (this feature requires another Golden Sun cartridge) and fightagainst another party. While it's not true a multiplayer option, it adds a greatreplay value to the game.

Golden Sun's weakest point, however, is its standard-issue story. Inessence: boy wakes up amidst disaster, meets stalwart friends, and rises to thechallenge to save the day (all while living up to the image of his dear departedfather). Good...but too short
I know they're leaving room for a sequal, but I finished in about a week of real time, and I didn't play that much.Plus, since you're stuck in Lalivero after you beat the final battle, there's no replay value.Although it left me eagerly awaiting the second one, it also left me feeling a little cheated.However, overall, this is an awesome game.The storyline didn't bother me, because the number of sideplots the ever-altruistic Isaac and crew feel the need to indulge in kept things varied and fun.Overall, I highly recommend this game, but if you're getting it, buy Lost Age at the same time, or you'll be really mad when you finish.Me?I'm promising myself Lost Age as a reward after I finish Finals Week, and I'm counting the days.

Any RPG loving GBA owner should buy this.
Created by a little know developer called Camelot (they made some Mario Golf and Mario Tennis games, as well as Shining Force before they joined Nintendo), Golden Sun is one of the GBA's more exceptional games.

Golden Sun has one major achievement it had for the GBA.It pushed the limits of the system in terms of graphics.While the visuals for wandering around seem rather easy for the system to create, the battles are a spectacular achievement.Even though the characters and enemies are shown as animated sprites.The sprites themselves are not much to write home about, but regardless they are quite convincing and suit the battle setup more than you might expect.The battle screen is sort of a "quasi-3D" setup.The background and sprites are 2D, but they are executed in such a manner that they look 3D.Not only that, battle effects, such as spells and simple attacks, add wonderfully to the setup.The only real problem I can see is that some spell effects slow down the framerates (how fast or smoothly it runs) noticably, but it's all handled so well that it doesn't even seem like a glitch, and out of sheer irony it adds to the effect of some of the spells.

The sound is a mixed bag.The music score part is excellent.Everything from the main menu music, to town themes, and the grand world map music is great both technically and melodically.If any songs do get on your nerves, they either won't last long or are done in such a way that you can tune them out while playing.Sound effects, however, are very standard.A lot of them are recycled so much that it's practically mind numbing.However, none of it seems completely out of place, and there isn't much that will hurt your ears, so that's something to be happy for.

The gameplay itself only has one real flaw in my opinion.The battles are too easy.With the exception of most of the boss battles, regular battles tend to be so easy that the thought of using the run option will never occur to you (they also go so quick that there's not really a time issue involved either).There's also an issue where, if you set all of your characters to attack one enemy and that enemy is destroyed, the characters that attack him later have their attack wasted.This really isn't too much of an issue, though, and Camelot was smart enough to make the character automatically defend if that should happen (which means damage to that character would be halved... though I think that only refers to physical damage).

The story has gotten a lot of bad press in my opinion.However, it should be noted that if you play this game, the story alone may persuade you to buy the next game, GS: The Lost Age (which is already out).While that's not particularly a bad thing, as the combination of the two stories is really awesome, just be aware of the extra expense that may cost for your wallet.Also, it should be noted that this game is a bit on the short side (roughly 20-25 hours), but that's still not much of an issue in my view (just so you know, the second game in the series is roughly 40-45 hours long, so that one is lengthier).

All in all, the game is quite fun.However, there are a few quirks that I mentioned above that may get on some people's nerves, so just know what you're getting into. ... Read more

Very Good Game
I really liked this game.there was enough fighting in this to keep me playing for a very long time.Also this game lives up to Jackie Chan with him using everything he can find ranging from a fish to a bamboo stick! all the enemies in this game were very difficult to sometimes just plain frustrating!Also the bosses in this game were very hard and you needed to figure out how to kill them.For example you couldent just go up to them and start punching and kicking them.One off the bosses attacks was to suck you up and spit you out so you had to figure out that once it started to suck in you had to avoid its attack and run behind it and attack it!!I would definatley buy this game if you like jackie chan, or his show(or if you just like a good portable fighting game!)!! ... Good port, could have been better
Capcom's Street Fighter series was, for many years, the best tournament-fighting video game series in the world. Unfortunately, by adding too much complexity too fast, Capcom destroyed the series. Fortunately, in the infancy of the Game Boy Advance, Capcom tried rereleasing one of the finest games in the series - and on a portable system! Read on for my review of Super Street Fighter II - Turbo Revival.

PROS:
-YOU HAVE A CHOICE OF SIXTEEN CHARACTERS. No two characters play exactly alike, and each one has his or her own strengths and weaknesses. This greatly enhances the replay value.
-FOR A PORTABLE FIGHTING GAME, THE GRAPHICS AREN'T HALF BAD. You can tell just by looking at the in-game graphics that Capcom really did put some work into this game.
-IT'S PORTABLE! This is the first time Super Street Fighter II Turbo has ever been on a Nintendo system, and the fact that it's a portable version makes it all the more appealing.

CONS:
-THE PORT IS HORRIBLY INACCURATE IN MANY WAYS. For some reason, many backgrounds were changed! Why the hell does Chun Li have her ALPHA SERIES background!? Why are the "boss characters'" taunts so out of character? (For example, M. Bison says "Handsome fighters never lose battles", but this quote BELONGS to Vega!) Likewise, where's Akuma? His introduction is one of the things that made this game so great, so his omission is unforgivable. Also, the endings have been changed.
-THE ANIMATION IS CHOPPY. In the heat of battle, you're really going to start to notice this - it's nothing too serious, but it's enough to make a potential gamer turn their head in disgust. I've seen fighting games on the Game Boy COLOR that have had smoother resolution!
-IT'S A SIX-BUTTON GAME, BUT GAME BOY ADVANCE HAS FOUR BUTTONS. Because of this, the control scheme had to be somewhat "scaled down." And yes, Capcom forces you to use the system's shoulder buttons - a nightmare if you've got big hands like myself. Of course, that's Nintendo's fault, not Capcom's.

OVERALL:
Overall this is a good port of an excellent fighting game - I just wish it could have been more faithful to the original. But still, it's very good, and if you own a Game Boy Advance and like old school fighting games, don't hesitate to pick this one up.

Only for true SF fans, with much cash to spend
well, this game is really great one. the graphics are good looking , with like 3 new stages. the character menu is beautiful. all the old sounds are included in there. 6 battle modes to choose from and a link Vs mode for beating your friends in it. Capcom did a really good job in setting a new system for the old 6-button configuration into a new 4-button setting. But watch out, this game has around 15 glitch, and some of them are premanant, which means they might damage your catridge. Also, you can't reset those since Capcom is using an EEPROM instead of a battery inside, so you can't erase the memory. Major glitch: the game hangs when you fight akuma (no fight lost during game), but then, there are many mistakes which could be considered minor to the akuma glitch in this game. To get around this glitch, you'll have to lose a fight against a character to ensure you can continue to M.Bison and get the endings. Its taken off the shelves now, since Capcom did refund people for this game, and I heard that they're working on a newer imporved version. If you're really crazy about this game, then get the Japanese version since it doesn't hang, but then, you'd be missing the newly-redone endings. Worth your money only you're a true SF2 fan and got some cash to spend on E-auctions. Meanwhile, stick to the new and awful SF games till Capcom finds a way with this one, I hope.

Best portable next to Alpha 3
The king of all fighting game series makes an impressive debut on the Game Boy Advance with Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival. Beautiful graphics, incredibly fast gameplay, and plenty of single-player action make this the ultimate portable fighter. Choosing from over 16 of the original Street Fighter cast-no SFIII or Alpha characters here-you battle in the classic one-on-one style with three turbo speeds and the "beat-up-the-car" and "barrel-busting" mini-games. You can also unlock several cool single-player modes, like survival, timed attack, beat the bosses, and fight Akuma-but this game is best when you're battling another player via the link cable. The 2D sprites are smoothly animated and the backgrounds are awesomely detailed as the GBA's wide screen is filled to the edges with frantic action. Controls are dead-on with a simple four-button setup (as in Marvel vs. Capcom 2), and the GBA is reminiscent of the old Super NES controller (hopefully the GBA shoulder buttons will hold out). Big-handed gamers, however, may find their fighting endurance severely shortened by the minute size of the GBA-i.e., "hand cramp!" The soundtrack is standard SF fare, but some sounds are distorted, while other small bits are missing.
This game brings you back to a time when Street Fighter was the unrivalled king of the fighting genre, and now the series will reign again on the GBA. Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival is so good that it will easily make diehard pocket fighters forget all about the great genre titles on the short-lived Neo Geo Pocket Color. ... Read more

This game is amazing! It is a GBC port of 2 classic SNES games. It's amazing how you can put this all from the Super NES onto a Game boy color*. When you first play the game, there are four bosses: Chill penguin, Storm eagle, Flame stag, and Spark mandrill. When you beat these Bosses + 4 SIGMA levels, you unlock Hard mode.It won't be easy. (Don't beleive the game, Hard mode is actually EASIER than Normal mode.) In hard mode, you fight these guys: Wheel gator, Armored armadillo, Morph moth, Magna centipede. Oh, and watch out for zain and geemel, THEY'RE BIG TROUBLE without all 4 armor upgrades. Also, there's an attack of every color: Shotgun Ice[Light blue], Storm Tornado[Lavender], Speed burner[Red], Electric Spark[Yellow], Spin Wheel[Green], Rolling Shield[Orange], Silk Shot[Gray], and Magnet Mine[Blue].

This game is basicly like megamanX1 and 2. Its very fun its got the same first level as X1 and the same last level boss to. but you cant be zero but oh well. hes not the greatest person in the world. this game has lost of challenges. also its got the same classic music and gaffics as X1. This is harder then X5 to tell everyone the truth. Lots of games are easyer then that game. anyway my final words are THIS GAME IS GREAT SO BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the Mega Man series' lows
In early 2000, Capcom finally decided to give its popular Mega Man X series a game on a portable system - the Game Boy Color. The game that was born was Mega Man Xtreme, which featured levels from X and X2 on the Super Nintendo. Read on to see how this game measures up.

PROS:
-Finally, a portable Mega Man X game! I'm sure fans everywhere had been waiting for one.
-The game allows you to save your progress in a stage - even if the system is turned off!
-There are three different play modes - Normal, Hard, and Xtreme.

CONS:
-The game is just a port of SNES Mega Man X levels! What a rip!
-The graphics really take a hit. X looks way too SD (for those of you not familiar with anime terms, SD means Super Deformed, meaning the character takes on a "head too big for body" sort of look.)
-The controls flat out bite, since you have to tap forward twice to slide (you don't have a third button to do it with.)
-You open the options menu with Select, not Start.
-Your character often changes the direction he is facing when he gets hit - this is so annoying!

OVERALL:
Stick with the classic series Mega Man Game Boy games. Porting the X series to the Game Boy was a good enough idea, Capcom just couldn't pull it off as well as we'd all hoped. This is for MEGA MAN DIE-HARDS AND COMPLETISTS ONLY. ... Read more

X has gone Xtreme...again...
i never owned xtreme 1 but i played it alittle. i have x1 on snes, rented x2 an x3 along time ago an is disapointing to say that for those who dont know, the bosses r rips from earlier x games which to me isnt really a downside. i thot the dna soul however was a bit cheap but u simply dont hav to buy parts which is a good thing an the reason i hated that is it takes fun from finding boss weaknesses. Playing as zero was quite disapointing but x is pure gold! u can unlock modes an im not tellin ya them all but one mode u get to go against bosses from xtreme 1 an i found them pretty hard (its not every boss tho). Getting armor upgrades DOES NOT make game too cheap an is pretty fun using arm upgrade but difficult at first. This game is fun for on the road an once i felt like i was playing a real mmx game on snes so for those who didnt get to play x1,2, or 3 (shame on u (joking)!) dont worry the bosses r still waiting....slightly easier tho.

BAD GAME
This game is a combanation of X1 2 and 3. its pretty fun but way to easy. with using DNA souls to buy upgrades make your charecter way to strong.boss stratgies suck and this is easyer then X5 that pretty sad. still it has the same classic music and graphics. also there a fully playable zero for all you zero lovers out there. you cant duck but thats not a down side. I thick they shoud make Xtreme 3 maybe that would be better. BUT DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AN EASY GAME LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SUPER GAME BOY COLOR GAME
This is one of the best game boy color games I have gotten. The graphics are awsome the game play is awsome. There are tons of levels to keep your attention for hours. This game has memory so you can save your game and come back. You can play two different modes both as X or his counterpart Zero. X has all the cool guns and you can keep bulding different armor and all. Zero just has a sword. So I have not played Zero much. I think there is one level you need to play Zero to win, though. For me, I am 32, this game is very difficult. I have had the game for a couple of months and have only gotten to the 2nd level. My son beat the game withough any problem though. ... Read more

Mega Man: Battle Network is not the side-scrolling game that fanshave grown up with, but rather an isometric, role-playing adventure game. Forthose cringing at this evolution, don't despair--with an amazing real-timebattle system, this game should appease even die-hard platform-shooter fans.

In the near future, the Net is connected to virtually everything--from computersto office water coolers. An evil group is bent on dominating the world bycorrupting the Net with viruses. You play as Lan, a young hacker, who must stopthis threat with the help of his virus-busting program (and best friend) MegaMan.exe.

Lan can walk up to just about any object and either use it or get someinteresting (and often funny) information about it. In fact, this kind ofexploration is necessary, because there are Net jacks in the strangestplaces--even a doghouse. And while Mega Man.exe is deployed fighting viruses on the Net,you often have to go out and collect clues in the real world. This teamwork addssome refreshing complexity to the game.

Fans of Pokémon will like the battle chip system. Finding chips andupgrading Mega Man.exe is the name of the game, enabling the program to unleashmore powerful attacks. Battle chips can be sold, traded, and combined intorarer, more powerful chips. In addition, you can link up with a friend and tradechips, or battle for them.

Mega Man Battlew Network for the GBA is a nice game that is unlike most Mega Man games. In this Mega Man game, you fight on a grid with you on one side and the enemy on another side. On this grid, you can fire as many shots as you want and can choose a special card from a group to use. This is quite fun and most people should enjoy it. When not in battle, you can move around freely and talk to people. You can fight some of the PETs of these people. The plot is pretty basic though there is a small twist. When hooked to the net, you can get into random battles and earn money. There is also a small RPG element present. You can earn upgrades to Mega Man and improve his health, attack, etc. The only problem is that the game can become frustrating if you cannot find out where to go next.

In my opinion, megaman battle network 1 is one of the better games in the series (of course i didn't get to the end of the game but i got pretty darn far). there's many places to jack in, such as lan,s security system (shaped like a doghouse). Many tough bosses such as stoneman. any way you flip the pancake this game is awesome so might i be the first to say jack in!

Megaman's first rpg is......a complete success!!
The blue bomber is back in a whole new adventure on the game boy advance but this time he has broken out of his signuture side scrolling action platformer format and has taken on the card battling rpg format???? Well before you megaman fans start yelling listen and read this review to find that this is one of the blue bombers greatest adventures yet.

Gameplay 10/10
Alright the gameplay is quite strange for Megaman so listin up you switch between Lan (a human kid in the real world) and Megaman EXE (Megaman's newest form a netnavi who goes through cyber space kicking (...)) now in the real world you as Lan go through a normal life in his futuristic world where everything is run by computers but this means viruses are much more in number and can be deadly so it's up to Lan to take Megaman to the electronic device that needs viruses cleared out of it or hostile netnavis as Megaman you use battle chips (microchips that give him weapons and abilities) you can get these through a turn based system a meter fills up and when it does you pick which chip out of five that you randomly pulled (kinda like your hand in a card game) but you are not limited to pulling just one chip per turn you can also make combos by pulling more than one of the same kind of chip of by pulling two chips of the same code. A code is put on the bottom of each chip two chips that have a H code can be played in the same turn even if they aren't the same kind of chip and chips that are the same can be played together even if they are not of identical code by the way new chips (which there are 175) can be obtain from detroying viruses for example if you detroy a dash virus you may get his chip depending on what kind of busting level you get busting level is a rank system which goes from 1-10 and S and you have a better chance of getting a chip if you get a 10 rank rather than a 5 now after you have selected your chips you can fight the viruses in a 3D battle arena which is split up into 18 panels 9 blue panels and 9 red panels you stand on the blue and cannot cross on to the red and and the same applies for you foes on the red you move about dogding attacks while launching your own its strange for Megaman but it works very well aside from battling in cyberspace you will also explore and solve puzzles many of which require you to be both Lan and Megaman to solve them example in cyberspace there is alocked door but it has a passnumber it is based on how many chairs are in Lans classroom in the real world therefore you must become Lan to solve the puzzle. A way this is a rpg is that Megaman can level up but not through exp points he levels up by finding upgrade items such as HPmemories which raises your overall HP (you start with 100) and Powerups which raise your power rapid and charge up powers of your buster these upgrades can be found in various areas of cyberspace or the real world or by buying them from merchants speaking of exploring that is another great thing about this game you can explore areas of cyberspace in just about anything electronic such as vending machines, game systems, tvs, and the most expansive area the internet but you can still explore the real world and interact with the people in the various towns particapate in netbattles where Megaman fights their netnavi and trade battle chips noy to mention while exploring you can try to get all the battle chips in the game. Also old fans will reconize old bosses reborn in this game such as Bombman Iceman Elecman and Protoman.

Story 10/10
The story begins as you are put into the role of Lan a 5th grader kid who is off to school in his futuristic world that is run completly by computers because of this viruses are larger in numbers and more deadly so much so that destroying them with your netnavi example Megaman is a big course in school on the way to school Lan walks with his freind Mayl who begins to tell him of a hacking net crime organization the world 3 or WWW that is becoming more know throughout the story Lan and Megaman Battle the WWW to stop their evil plans but unlike old Megaman games you don't just pick a boss stage and go there you fight WWW as events unfold in the game.

It will take you at long time to master this game trying to find all the battle chips reaching level 100 and battling WWW will keep you busy for quite awhile. ... Read more
