    Kirby 64:The Crystal Shards
Average Customer Review: 4.0 out of 5 stars
    Game Cartridge

    Editorial Review

That cute little squishy guy is back in all his pastel glory tosweeten up 2-D life on the Nintendo 64. With 3-D games such asPerfect Dark and Donkey Kong 64 getting the bulk ofattention among consumers, Kirby 64 provides a fun change of pace for bothyoung and experienced gamers who don't necessarily need all threedimensions to have fun.

Young gamers will love the bright, colorful graphics in this game, which is 2-D with some 3-D foreground and background elements. Kirby isjoined by plenty of friends who will aid in his quest to recover thepieces of an important shattered crystal.

While the levels are a bit too easy for older gamers, the gameplay inKirby 64 is original enough to entertain all ages. Kirbystill has an appetite for enemies, sucking them up and spitting themout, but he can also swallow them, inheriting abilities such as fireand cutter. Also, Kirby can now combine enemy powers, often withhilarious results. For instance, electricity plus stone turns Kirbyinto an electrifying little light bulb. Sure, you don't need to use allthese powers, but they're still fun to play with. --Robb Guido

    Pros:

    • Whimsical 2-D graphics
    • Kirby 64's copy and combine abilities result in some unique and variedgameplay
    Cons:
    • May be too easy and too cute for older players

5-0 out of 5 stars This Game is Deserves 5 stars definetely.
i bought this game about 3 years ago and I think it is one of the best N64 games to date. The graphics are good enough to be an early gamecube configuration, and the music is awesome. the gameplay is cool, like combining the moves to make ultra-weapons. there is no load-time and the game saves by itself. this game isn't very challenging, but the replay value is pretty good. this is one of the best kirby games, and is pretty rare. if you have an N64, this game is a must have. thanks for reading this review, and remember, its good to get a copy now if you havent already, because its going fast!

1-0 out of 5 stars STINKS!
Yes its me bombermans biggest fan and no I dont give every game exept bomberman 1 star.

5-0 out of 5 stars TOO CUTE!!! CAN'T..... RESIST!
The classic SNES character is back for N64! It's all about when dark something(forgot the name) Turns all of kirbys friends evil! But fear not! Kirby has a big appitite! and is ready to save the day! Don't listen to all who give it a thumbs down cause this is a great game and I give it two thumbs up! ... Read more

    Kirby Tilt N' Tumble
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    Game Cartridge (12 April, 2001)
    list price: $29.99
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Just when you thought you'd played it all, along comes something truly bizarre. Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble isn't just a silly name thought up by Nintendo's central marketing--it's a title that explains how to play this game, as well as a caution against what might happen to you while playing. It's one of the most gimmicky games ever for the Game Boy, yet it works--brilliantly.

The plot has something to do with our hero, the pink puffball named Kirby, in his adventure to retrieve the stolen stars of his homeland. Like past Kirby games, there's plenty of surreal imagery that features clouds, lots of pastel colors, and plenty of cuddly bad guys.

Chances are you'll be mesmerized by Kirby's control scheme. For the most part, your tilting of the Game Boy unit determines the direction in which Kirby will roll. It's extremely simplistic yet so engrossing that even adults will risk embarrassment while shifting their entire bodies in an attempt to save Kirby from meeting his doom.

Even for a game based solely on level design, complaints here are few. Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble requires precise tilting and stable hands, so don't play it on the bus or train. It's easy to lose track of Kirby while tilting due to the Game Boy's inherent screen-glare problems, and that will cause timing problems. Those who think they're too cool for ultracute gaming should avoid this game. Everyone else, though, should get their hands on this one before it rolls away. --Mark Brooks

    Pros:

    • Completely different, yet easy to play
    • Detailed, surreal graphics
    • Very addictive

    Cons:

    • Touchy controls need steady hands
    • The Game Boy's inherent screen-glare problems make it easy to lose sight of Kirby

3-0 out of 5 stars I leaned the hard way
This is a really fun game, and the graphics and sound are great... only problem is that is is not GBA SP compatible (I don't know about regular GBA). It loads fine and looks good, but because it works on a motion sensor chip, and GBC cards point down, and GBA SP cards point up, up is down and down is up, and right is left and left is right. You COULD learn to compensate for this, but what a pain!

If, though, GBA regular loads cards the way GBC does, it should make a great addition to your collection. If you have GBA SP, and no GBC, I can't recommend it. Of course, you can get a GBC for $10. at GameStop, if you really want to play this particular game. It is a pretty nifty game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Game!!
I got this game and it is GREAT! The tilt control is awesome and it is very straightforward. Ten stars!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Tilt N' Tumble - Continuous fun!
Kirby Tilt N' Tumble is now considered a bit of an "older" game now, but I decided to write this review up anyway, being the experienced gamer with this one game that I am.So, thanks for reading, and I hope this helps you.

Back when GBA came out on the market and was all the rage, I was stuck with my little, hot pink Gameboy Color when everyone else had the sleek new model.I was also a kirby fanatic, and was desperate for a Kirby game.So after some research on the internet, I finally found one - Kirby Tilt N' Tumble.I was disappointed that it wasn't being sold anymore, so finally, for Christmas 2003 my parents bought it for me from eBay, unfortunately just the cartridge and no instructions or box.

I was anxious to get playing right away that morning, so I popped it in and found it was a very easy game to learn.I already new a little about the controls, tilting to move Kirby in the desired direction, and it was nice that whenever I had to learn a new move to advance, the game would pause and teach me.Eventually, I easily learned the whole game without any instructions!

With 5 goofy yet fun mini-games to play, 8 exciting and challenging words to explore, plenty of cute and cuddly bad guys and a simple, easy-to-follow storyline, Kirby Tilt N' Tumble is a game that doesn't lose its fun anytime soon after buying, versus other games that lose all the fun after you've beat the game. Why, I've owned it for a year already and there's still secret words and warp stars I'm discovering all the time.

Now, there are a few cons I'll warn you about before you go out and spend your money. This isn't the game to bring on that 10-hour car trip to visit Aunt Ruth, because the constant moving in vehicles makes it hard to control Kirby. As well, it's not the kind of game where you can lay back against the pillows, stretch out your feet and sip the lemonade, either. You're always swivelling your body back and forth, side to side, and so forth when tilting your little pink puffball. Not a big deal, but its not just hitting buttons like other games.

I don't have this problem too much, since I usually play in good light, but you may have a hard time keeping an eye on Kirby when you tilt the screen forward and lose sight of him from the light glinting off the screen.Annoying, yes, but the game is still worth it, trust me.

Overall, this game is definitely worth every penny you're paying for it.As long as you don't mind things being cute and cuddly all of the time, Kirby Tilt N' Tumble is a great gaming experience that will last for months and months after your purchase. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This game rocks!
I've had this game for years and I've finally figured out how to get all the Star Drops. People say this game is easy but once you get to King Dedede and Dark Matter you'll quickly change your opinion on it! Great for people who love Kirby and those looking for an easy/hard game.

5-0 out of 5 stars KIRBY IS THE BEST!
I've had this game for a long time. It has 7 worlds. Every world you go the harder the game gets. In the last world in the last stage you have to get these special people and eat them to get a special ability. It will be tricky because there are two doors in each place so if i was you i would write it somewhere. Then after the last football you face king deedee. After you beat him and if you had gotten the last football an evil spirt comes out of king deedee. First he is a knight, then he becomes a eye. You will get a sword with all the footballs combined so you could beat him. I did not know that until a few years ago. But this game rocks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Some great thing
My name is Taylor and I am 8 years old. During my 8th birthday I got this awesome cartridge game. When I was 5 I really got into the spirit of Kirby. Kirby is one of the best games yet. I also like Pokemon too. But these amazing characters keep on getting me. My mom likes Kirby too. But this game is like Kirby Crystal Shards. Please people you have to get this game. ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars Must...play...Kirby...
This game has revolutionized the platform game concept. It has taken the concept of pink vacuum cleaners and put it in with the Mario innovation (excuse my fancy lecture). Kirby is a mean, lean eating machine who can take the power of an enemy and make it his own by sucking it up. This is way cool but can make the game very easy at times. And, if you don't like your power, just let it go in one end and out the *other* end with the SELECT button. This game is fairly long and can be very frustrating at times (I've learned to just SUCK it up! Get it? Kirby SUCKS things up!) You can also fly by sucking in air and if you meet an enemy, just decompress it and you'll really BLOW him away! The final bossES (notice I emphasize ES) are extremely hard, too. All in all, this is a must have and is pretty darn good for an early 90s NES game.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite NES game.
Awesome game.2D platformers just don't get any better than this.Kirby has the appearance of a cute little cream puff, but don't let it fool you: this guy's easily got more moves than Lara Croft.Kirby can absorb powers from enemies (or simply EAT them), slide, dive, fly, dash, and all sorts of other things. He can get everything from a sword to a laser, become a living tornado, and even drive his own UFO.The graphics are very colorful and vibrant, especially for an NES title, and the music is nice and upbeat and happy, just like the whole tone of this game.It looks a lot like a kids' game, but believe, anyone can have a lot of fun with this. It's even got secret modes to unlock by beating the game at 100%.There is really nothing bad that I can mention about this title. It's simply a must-have for any NES owner who likes platform games.

5-0 out of 5 stars BETTER THAN MARIO
I think part of the reason why people like Zelda and Mario is because they were simply the first games of their type. I believe that if they had come later, they wouldn't have done so well. Having said that, I think that Kirby's Adventure is FAR superior to Mario. For one, there's NO TIME LIMIT! The graphics were nice and bright and clear, unlike some NES titles. Even the music was pretty good. I liked the exciting new twists that this game had. Kirby can fly, pick up TONS of weapons, each one clearly different from the last. Picking power-ups was never so much fun. Each of the many worlds was different from the last, insuring that there was little or no redundancy. Furthermore, there was a percentage meter that told you how much of the game you had completed. You could beat it without a score of 100%, but you'd be missing out on the secret areas. But my favorite thing about this game are the battles. This game boasts some of the most fun ending-bosses I've seen--even compared to SNES, Playstation, etc. For example, there is this swashbuckling battle about midway where Kirby takes up the sword and dukes it out with an evil villian. Then there's the last battle, where Kirby flies through the air, fighting some heavenly entity--a moon or star, I think. Yes, this is definitely one of the better games I've played. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Maybe the best Kirby game.
Kirby, as you know, is the little pink guy who swallows enimies and gains powers by doing so. It's a very fun game, with many games.

Spring Breeze: In this quickie, you go through 4 levels to get back the stolen food.

Dyna Blade: This time, you have to defeat a giant bird. You can return to levels.

The Great Cave Offensive: This one's fun! Try to find all 60 hidden treasures as you try to escape the cave.

Revenge of Meta Knight: I like this one. You have to destroy Meta Knight's warship, Halberd. You also hear the conversations between the crew. Notice that the game is timed.

Milky Way Wishes: Now you have to stop the sun and moon from fighting [WTF]! To do that, you have to go to other planets to gain their power. You can't gain powers by swallowing enemies this time [gasp!], but you find in hidden places, powers that last forever!!! A cool game.

The Arena: In this tough game, you have to defeat ALL the bosses and mini bosses! For a challange, try beating it without powers!

    The game also has minigames.

Gourmet Race: Race DeDeDe while collecting food in 3 tracks!

Megaton Punch: Try to defeat your enimies in a strength competition!

    Samauri Kirby: Test your reflexes!

A great feature in this game is that Kirby can turn his power into a computer-controlled buddy! If you have a 2nd controller, you can control the buddy!

It's a helluva game, and a must get for your SNES collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars good game
To all of you parents out there concerned about the price, this is a great game that I highly reccomend and it is worth every penny. It has great replay value and is one of the best games out for the Super Nintendo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Kirby Game Ever!!
This has to be the best kirby game ever. If you thought that Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine was fun you have to try Kirby's Avalanche. This is one of them brain games that you don't see very much. Over all this game is great and should be owned by everyone that has a Super Nintendo Entertainment System!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Kirby's Avalanche: the worst Kirby game ever
Don't get me wrong, I love Kirby, but this is about the worst game in the history of SNES.It's a little like tetris and tetris attack put together in the sense that you have to match up colored blocks that fall from above but it is sooooo boring. Unlike other snes puzzlers, there is really only one backround to play on with the Yogurt Yard (Kirby's Adventure) music playing the whole time. The one cool thing about this game is that it has speach in it which is really amazing for an SNES game. Kirby is about the best nintendo character of all time but this is definentely the worst game he's ever had.I recomend getting Kirby's Star Stacker for the gameboy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Short'n easy, but addicting!!!
Ironically, this was my second Kirby game that i brought. The first Kirby game i had brought was Dreamland 2. Even though it's the easiest game in my Video Game library, it's still great. I've played it several times and yet, i'm not yet bored of the game. It was basic and all, yet great. Ya see, i have a policy about games. Every vacations (winter midwinter, summer, regents week, etc, i replay all of my gameboy games (old and new) that way, i won't be bored, and i wouldn't be neglecting them. The graphics and the music i felt were good and the gameplay was average.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as good.
In the game Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland was way better. This game you do not even get powers and the bosses are short. If you like this game, you will like Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland.

5-0 out of 5 stars kirbys awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a huge fan of kirby. the first kirby game i got was kirbys dreamland 2. i decided i had to get the first one. it only took me 30 minutes to beat it, but it was awesome and addicting. after you beat the game you get hard mode, and i havent beaten that yet. the levels are good but sometimes get complicated. the hardest one is bubbly clouds (stage 4). It's easy if your any good at pinball. It's fun and a little challenging. I recommend it as a cheap (not cheesey) gaem for kids and even gamers who enjoy kirby. It's fun for an old game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Its an okay game.
This game isn't as good as the other Kirby games.

Graphics: 3/5 Still the crappy old graphics. Control: 0/5 TERRIBLE. It makes me wanna rip my hair out because you use the left arrow for the left flipper and the A button for the right. Challenge: 5/5 If youre looking for something hard, buy this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Game Is sooooooooo Cool!!
My grandmother bought me a copy of this game when I was eight, and the first time I played it, it was hard, but with some practice I became a very good pinball player. It has all the old songs and enemies from the kirbys Dream land game, very good!

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor follow up
I bought this game after playing Kirby superstar, one of the best super NES games ever, and was expecting the series to follow a similar development. Kirby's dreamland 3 is [very similare to] super mario world 2, yet not as creative or imaginitive. It moves slow and tediously, and we have none of the fast paced excitement, story features, or extra games that made superstar so awesome. The only thing that was kept was kirby's abilities to absorb enemies powers, but even this is second rate, seeing as he cannot do any of the powerstunts like before.
