Pokemon Crystal Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge (02 August, 2001) list price: $29.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Pokémon Crystal is to Pokémon Gold and Silver what Pokémon Yellow is toPokémon Red and Blue. It features severalminor upgrades from its predecessors, but in essence it's still the same game. The classic Pokémon formula of adventuring, collecting, and battling isat a series best with Crystal. This is one of the best and most addictiverole-playing games for the Game Boy Color. The most notable feature is theselectable female trainer who has her own set of animations and backgrounds. This is a great option for female Pokémon fans who were previously stuckplaying the game as a male character. There are also subtle improvements to thecell phone system, HM moves, and prebattle animations. Rival trainers' phonecalls are now more plentiful and pragmatic. HM moves, which are requiredthroughout the game, are available at the push of a button--you'll no longerhave to navigate menus to use these moves. Lastly, seeing a Pokémon's newanimation makes encountering new creatures more fun than before. If youhaven't played Gold or Silver yet, Crystal is definitelythe way to go. If you've played those previous games, Crystal has onlyenough new features to justify a purchase from Pokémon fanatics. Thisgame is compatible with the link cable, Game Boy printer, and PokémonPikachu 2. It's playable on Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance only, and can beplayed on a television using Pokémon Stadium 2 and a Transfer Pak.--Raymond M. Padilla Pros:

Mario Kart Advance Average Customer Review: Video Game (30 August, 2001) list price: $34.99 -- our price: $28.95 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Nintendo's winning streak of rehashing and enhancing classic SuperNintendo games for the tiny GBA screen continues with this surprisinglyaddictive arcade racer. For those new to the Mario Kart game series, Nintendomascots (Mario, Donkey Kong, Luigi, etc.) race go-carts along fantastic tracksthat feature various offensive and defensive power-ups (banana peels andmushroom boosts, to name two). Accumulate enough points and you'll win circuittrophies. Each mascot has a ride that handles and accelerates differently, yetthe controls for each racer feel very tight and precise. The highly detailed, cartoony locales of Mario Kart Super Circuit show visuals that are bothvery sharp and fluidly animated. Though not nearly as fast, Mario Kart SuperCircuit looks better and can be more intense than the vaunted F-Zerolaunch title. If you perform well enough and collect enough coins in atournament, you can unlock a plethora of bonus tracks--some of which are fromolder console Mario Kart titles. The fun multiplayer options includehead-to-head racing and a balloon battle mode, in which you blast other racerswith power-ups in a huge arena until there's only one driver left. --MarkBrooks Pros:

Advance Wars Average Customer Review: Video Game (13 September, 2001) list price: $29.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review You don't have to be MacArthur to recognize that Advance Wars isone of the best strategy war games for any console. The game pits four fictionalcity-states in a battle for territory. Your job as commanding officer is todefeat the enemies in turn-based combat over land, air, and sea. AdvanceWars has a stiff learning curve, but its interactive tutorials can turn thegreenest GI into agreat leader of pixelated men. AW also offers manymultiplayer options, including the ability to play against a friend by passingthe GBA back and forth. To extend the possibilities, you can also create newbattlefields and trade them with others. Despite cutesy visuals, this is a verydeep game that is also accessible. For GBA generals looking to flex theirtactical muscles or anyone looking for a simply great GBA game, look no further.--Mark Brooks Pros:

NFL 2K2 Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (21 September, 2001) list price: $39.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Visual Concepts created a huge stir with the original NFL 2K--thefirst football video game that actually looked like you were watching a game onTV. NFL 2K2, the third game in the series, still features themind-boggling graphics, stunning player animations, and great play modes of theoriginal. And, despite an often frustrating passing engine, it's still one ofthe best sports simulations around. You can play as any NFL team in a variety of modes: practice, tourney, exhibition, season, playoffs, franchise, fantasy, tutorial, and network (againstup to seven other players nationwide). The franchise mode is again one of thegame's strengths, as it offers a variety of scouting and free agency options, letting you customize your roster as a general manager based on the statisticsand financial demands of actual players. Now you can learn what the WashingtonRedskins already know--the salary cap is a cruel mistress. The player animations are again the star of the show. There are literally dozensof potential endings to any collision in NFL 2K2, from stumbling fiveyards after a shoestring tackle to spinning dizzily between two linebackers tosomersaulting through the air after stretching for a catch over the middle. Andalthough the tackles can be spectacular, the game doesn't betray its simulationroots by making them too extreme. These aren't torn from the comics pages, as insome games. Sega Sports has talked up its new passing system quite a bit, and it is bothchallenging and intriguing--perfect for the hard-core simulation expert.Unfortunately, the rest of us are left struggling to complete 5 to 10 passes agame. Essentially, the game asks players to expertly anticipate routes and timethe receiver's catch. This is no easy task in a fast-moving game such as this,as receivers routinely drop wide-open passes on the rare occasions they do getopen, and you'll find your primary receiver blanketed by two or more defensivebacks on most plays. The passing engine isn't overwhelmingly flawed, but averagegamers will need some serious time to overcome the Ravens-like pass defensethey'll face early on. The running game was the original NFL 2K's main weakness, and it remainsthe single biggest improvement over the evolution of the series. Sometimesrunning between the tackles in NFL 2K2 can be a tad too easy and runningoutside can be too challenging, but the game rewards players who see holesdevelop and are adept at cutbacks. It's the small details, though, that make NFL 2K2 the sports simulationtriumph that it is. The commentary--although still prone to calling turnoversincorrectly--is first rate, the on-field player dialogue is highly entertaining, and even the stadium music and crowd chants add to the atmosphere rather thanannoy. The game isn't necessarily worth an upgrade for people who already own NFL2K1, as the improvements aren't dramatic (unless updated rosters are yourmain concern). But for football fans who want one of the best-looking sportssimulations ever made--and who don't mind the initial frustration of lousyquarterback ratings--NFL 2K2 is a Hail Mary come true. --RiversJanssen Pros:

THE BAD I love this game and recommend this to anyone
One my favorite things about this game is the ability to throw bullets or pop ups its your choice but pop ups are more likely to be intercepeted. Bullets are the best to avoid a defender also note if you try hail mary a bullet it will be pretty crooked far reach from the reciever. The best team to do hail marys is the Rams and Vikings since they have atleast one fast reciever and when there fast you just chuck that ball way out there like a 70 yard throw and you think you over throw to Randy Moss or Isacc Bruce but they smoke almost all dbs and wide open to make the catch if it isnt overthrown. The graphice are amazin like NFL 2k1 all the same moves but require strategy since they canged the way they juke. Well in nfl2k1 you can just pull a juke move and most likely joke al the time with a group of deffender you can get away with this is what [made me mad] in NFl2k1. Now we have NFL2k2 and wel none of the Bullcrap no more since when you sped you recver or running back sows down to make the spins or break the tackle. My most favorite thing is to to a Full NFL Fantasy Draft. i like to choose my players win by one witht he cpu alos taking a few of the good ones makes it challenging and in th eend you can see your stats for yu off and def then you start a fl seaon with the players you choosen the they keep track off eerything including who goes to the probowl. The online play is great! The only thing is when you play with someone your connection affects the game in a way like when you throw the ball to a wide reciever he most likey drop it since the people online just tackle them before it happens I have done it too but when i do it offline its pass interfernce maybe this happens because of 56k modem since I have gotten way with that tackle the guy to make hiim drop trick. Well the online is pretty good if your isp is good has a ranking system and also keeps track of how many wins and losses you have. I give NFL2k2 4 stars since the online play. I never like it when people quit when are about to get a win. ... Read more Asin: B00005ME69 |

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge (04 August, 2001) list price: $49.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review One of the most anticipated sequels in recent memory, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 builds upon the addictive gameplay of the original by adding many new tricks and features. The idea is still to perform complicated tricks for points, and players can still ride as Tony or any of an expanded roster of pros in the new game. Now, however, players can create their own skaters from scratch, selecting appearance, gear, clothes, and more. Players can also create their own ideal skate parks by instantly building ramps, rails, pipes, and other challenging obstacles. All of the old tricks remain, but the game features hundreds of new additions. Super Mario Advance Average Customer Review: Video Game (14 June, 2001) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The world's favorite plumber makes his first appearance (alongwith playable characters Luigi, Peach, and Toad) on the Game BoyAdvance, and, for the most part, Mario's arrival is welcome indeed. Super Mario Advance is primarily a slightly tweaked port ofSuper Mario Bros. 2, the (still) very popular side scroller fromthe days of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). So expect plenty of running, jumping, and hurling of items at many a foe. The game's graphics and sound have been a given a nice overhaul fromthe original game, and are clear and bright enough to please old-schooland new fans alike. While Nintendo did a good job shrinking the visualsdown to handheld size, the tiny GBA screen can get very busy at times, making accidental death due to sometimes less-than-precise controlsfrustratingly frequent--at least in the beginning. Most gamers shouldovercome such mishaps with a little patience. Also included is the still fun, if forgettable, original MarioBros. game from many eons ago. Up to four players can engage in acoin-collecting battle mode or the classic mode. Super MarioAdvance isn't the game to show off the power of the GBA, but it isa long, fun title that will satisfy today's gamers with a taste fromthe best of Mario's past. --Mark Brooks Pros:

Bob the Builder Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (13 September, 2001) list price: $14.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Featuring the chirpy Bob and his mechanical multitude of talentedfriends, this fun package is a mixture of educational encouragement and pureout-and-out fun. In "Hedgehog Rescue," the aim is first to help Lofty the Cranebuild a tunnel and save the scared hedgehogs from crossing the road. Childrenmust match pipe shapes to tunnel shapes and construct the route. The next, moredifficult game involves Wendy herding the hedgehogs into the tunnel. In "Travis's Race Day," challenge Scoop or Dizzy to a head-to-head around anobstacle-strewn track. Guide your challenger with your game controller--again,not as easy as it sounds, and a great developmental aid for hand-eyecoordination. "Can We Build It?" involves knocking down an unsafe bridge, thenusing color recognition to match the bricks to rebuild it. Roley needs a handwith unruly tarmac in "Bubble Trouble," and you must guide him over the bubblesto even out the road. And in "Scary Spud," you must move Spud around the screento scare off the crows. But the crowning glory is "Wendy's Birthday," in whichguests first decorate her cake then join in the line dancing. Also included oneach game is "Where's Pilchard?"--a hide-and-seek game for the shy, blue cat. Accompanied throughout by Neil Morrisey's narration and the superb music fromthe TV show, this package builds on many elementary educational skills to makelittle builders into fully fledged Bobs. Testers of around 2 years old foundthis game fun and evocative of their favorite TV characters, though they didrequire constant supervision and most of the games were beyond mastering. Gran Turismo 3: A Spec Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (13 July, 2001) list price: $49.99 -- our price: $19.88 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The PlayStation2 takes the Gran Turismo franchise to new heights in thethird edition of the venerable racing series. The graphics are sure to grabyou--the cars and tracks are awe inspiring, and there are some incredible lightingeffects. This game is much more than eye candy, though. The gameplay in Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec is the same as its predecessors;fans of the previous games will feel right at home, while newcomers will be ableto pick things up easily. There are more than 150 cars from which to choose, andplenty of tracks upon which to race them. Arcade mode works well for a quickfix, while simulation mode provides outstanding replay value. The sound effectsare impressive--each engine has a unique sound, and tire screeches fromdifferent cars sound noticeably different. The soundtrack is a good mix oforiginal compositions and a wide variety of recording artists, including MotleyCrue, Raekwon, Jimi Hendrix, and Snoop Dogg. One minor flaw with the game is its relatively predictable artificialintelligence. Computer-controlled cars follow distinct lines, and you'll be ableto pick up the patterns after a few races. Considering how far the graphics havecome since the original Gran Turismo, it's disappointing that the AIhasn't progressed similarly. Despite this, GT3 remains an outstandinggame. Few games offer its combination of high quality and immense variety.--Raymond M. Padilla Pros:

Madden 2002 Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge (20 September, 2001) list price: $39.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Madden NFL 2002 delivers old-fashioned Madden gameplay with a classic mode that lets you relive the golden days of Madden NFL 93. Madden 2002 has many good and bad things about it, Great A.I. and it is also very realistic, maybe too realistic. I say too realistic because you can get fidgity when the Refs pullout the chain or the teams switch sides. It shows all of this so it can really be time consuming. Also, a good QB can complete at least 65%of their passes. EA dosen't agree with me though 'cause in Madden 2002 even if your guy is open there is still a good chance that the ball will go through their head or their hands. Quick, name a RB who can rush 12 yards a carry. What, no one does, well go tell that to EA cause on the hardest diffulculty I can rush for 12 yards a carry with Browns running back Rhite. Bottom Line: Rent it, or pick it up at a yard sale cheap.

NCAA Football 2002 Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (25 July, 2001) list price: $49.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review NCAA Football 2002 takes the same graphics, gameplay, and physicsengines as Madden 2002 and adds the unmistakable feel of collegefootball. The game plays exactly like Madden with slight improvements tothe already strong graphics. You can choose from 144 NCAA teams (117 Division1-A and 27 Division 1-AA) and compete in one of the 26 postseason bowl games, complete with corporate sponsors (FedEx Orange Bowl). Stat junkies are sure tolove this game; in addition to the usual performance stats, it keeps track of APtop 25, coach's top 25, BCS rankings, All-American awards, and more. Asmentioned earlier, the gameplay is identical to Madden's. It has a highdegree of realism that purists will enjoy, but fans of faster, arcade-stylegames might not care for. This is one of the few games that uses every button onthe PlayStation2 controller--casual gamers might be intimidated by the complexcontrols. Also like Madden, there are a number of unstoppable plays thatcan nullify any defense. From a technical standpoint, this game doesn't offerenough improvements to warrant its purchase if you already own Madden. However, if you don't own Madden or love college football, this is thegame to buy. --Raymond M. NBA Street Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (27 April, 2001) list price: $49.99 -- our price: $14.88 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review NBA Street is the best arcade basketball title available. Period. Why? No refs, no clocks, no fouls. Players will knock you over, and theypractically live for blatant goaltending throughout the game. Realistic? No, butit's always fun--even if you hate basketball. Street has two different game modes--City Circuit and Hold the Court--yetthe differences here are minimal. Both feature three-on-three games of 21, inwhich you must assemble a squad composed of (initially) NBA players. Soonyou'll play against street legends (read: bosses) that, once defeated, can beadded to your team. Your ultimate goal is to defeat the biggest legend ever:Michael Jordan. To survive the streets, you must learn which buttons to mash as you masterspecific stunts. This will add special points to your score and give you accessto different ways to score. Though similar to NBA Jam and its sequels,Street is deeper, and sports a surprisingly developed finesse game. Street does commit some fouls, though, with its over-the-top, repetitivecommentary and lack of play modes. However, even if you hate arcade-stylebasketball, you'll find Street differs from the pack, making it a solidMVP contender. Pros:

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (31 August, 2001) list price: $49.99 -- our price: $17.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The first BMX game out of the gates for the PS2 is Dave MirraFreestyle BMX 2, developed by Z-Axis. Like any extreme sports game, the keyhere is the trick system, and this one is incredibly deep with more than 1,500tricks to perform. Basic tricks are easy to execute and can be modified with anadditional button-and-direction combo. Unfortunately, these trick modifiersaren't always responsive. The game's modes are Session, Free Ride, Park Editor, and ProQuest. Session is atimed run on any of the game's levels. Free Ride lets you nail the game's timingand become familiar with its courses. The extensive Park Editor lets you designyour own levels. The meat of the game is in ProQuest, which has two submodes:competition and challenges. The ultimate goal is to win enough competitions tobecome the king of freestyle BMX. The challenges help you earn "respect," whichcan be used to upgrade your gear. The game's excellent soundtrack includes songs from Fenix TX, Ozzy Osbourne, andA Tribe Called Quest--three acts few in their wildest dreams envisionedtogether. The game's addictive gameplay is marred by several programmingglitches, the most annoying of which is haphazard respawning. After crashing, the game often places you in positions where you'll instantly wipeout or appearinside an object. Polygons sometimes appear on the screen for no apparent reasonand the frame rate slows down at times. Still, this is a very addictive gamethat will have no competition untilMat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2is released. --Raymond M. Padilla Pros:

Graphically Dave Mirra 2 is a vast improvement from the original although unfortunately it bugs me trying not to concerntrate on how poor the graphics are after playing games like tony hawks 3. Aside from that i find the game has to much respawning and graphic glitches which can really drive you nuts(especially when playing proquest mode. Another disadvantage i must tell you is that, in my opinion the graphics seem a little too cartoony for me especially in the outdoor areas, otherwise the the faces on the riders are very realistic aswell as the bikes. 2.5/5(for ps2 graphics) Soundwise Dave Mirra 2 is below average for a extreme sports game, i mean there is just not enough sound effects, not even an improvement from the original just the same old bird chipping, metallic sounds when grinding, grunts when crashing. The creators really could have spent more time on the sound. Musically the game is a mixed bag with pop-punk, hip-hop, rock and modern metal, and the terrible thing is there's only ten songs!!!! ten songs!!!! And only three i like, although after a while you'll find yourself turning off the music. 2.75/5 The game play for this game is good with some of the best and largest levels in extreme sport games that i have seen. The levels are very detailed, well planned and fun to ride on. The controls are somewhat very responsive and easy to get use to, as for the tricks they look fairly realistic when performed, and not only that but their heeps of possible tricks to perfrom with new sik trick system which allows you to modify a trick like lets say, you could do a backflip-flair-turndown-barspin in one combo, making the game feature a shocking number of over 1,500 tricks to be done in this game(wonder how acclaim could fit that many tricks onto a controller). The proquest mode is very good aswell has challenges from ameuteur to insane, the missions also are terrific compared to the tony hawk series. 4.25/5 The multi-player mode for this game is actually very underated i guess since the multi-player mode where you verse a friend/family is not split screen, but really to tell you the truth i slightly prefer it it non split screen and where you just take turns however thats just an opinion. Their are also allsorts of multiplayer challenges(over ten) including best height, longest grind and the ground breaking wipe out mode which lets you challenge a friend/family at trying to do the most painful crash in 30 seconds, and what makes it even more cooler is that you can bail and one of the best features about this game is that its bails and crashes are without a doubt the most realistic i've ever seen in an extreme sports game. 4.75/5 The meat of this game is easily its replay value which amazes me at how a game with very average graphics can have an extreme replay value. With the park editor which lets you create just about anything and not only that but unlike the hawk series this games park editor i find is very simple to use. The free ride option will also have you coming back to the ps2 just to bum around at classic parks like woodward, and because of how realisticly funny the bails and crashes are you will most certainly not want to throw away this game. 5/5 Just before i finish this review i might just add a few minor complaints 1. doing backflips in this game is ridiculous you can pull em by jumpig from the ground i mean c'mon be a bit more realistic, 2. i find when performing tailwhips that the frame seems to move a little to slow and could be faster like normally if i'd jump off a box i can tailwhip and just land(and im not even a champion, whereas riders in the game are) whereas in the game if i tried i would only be 3/4 through finnishing the whip. 3. Sometimes and i mean sometimes the camera gets focussed on a large object if i pass by it rather then focusing on the rider itself. 4. I may be a little picky here but as one reviewer stated where are those tricks like fufanu's? and also the tomahawk trick. Otherwise this is a game i recomend everyone to atleast play.
Graphics - God aweful.Sketchy and contorted to look like a 5 year old drew them with the crayon in his mouth. The brand-name bikes have been ruined with this terrible animation. None of the riders you can talk to have any facial expression, and everything around you is glitchy when you ride. F-- In this catagory. Gameplay - Missions are damn-near impossible. 60% of missions are not even BMX related. Knock down 4 ladders..know how does this pertain to anything BMX? Some goals like doin' a 360 over a tabletop or a backflip over a building are more interesting though. At least they incorporated Pro riders to do missions for in this one... Sound - Surprisingly good soundtrack. Most likely the only thing enjoyable about this game..other than the hilarious gumby-like bails and sounds when you hit the ground. Good music selection from artists like Fenix TX, Sum 41, Ozzy, and more. Replay Value - Non what-so-ever. :-( If you wanna give this game a try..just rent it first. You probably won't be too impressed. If you find it for under $10..it might be worth it..hardly. ... Read more Asin: B00005ML0Z |

Bob the Builder Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge (18 August, 2001) list price: $29.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Can we play it? Yes we can, as Bob the Builder has now made it to theGame Boy Color in Fix-It Fun. It begins in Bob's yard, where he isgreeted by Dizzy, Lofty, Roley, and all his other best friends, all ready forsome serious work. Enter Wendy's office and there's a stream of jobs justwaiting to be done--notices are in the fax machine, in the files, and on theshelves. Jobs seem to be piling up everywhere, and Bob needs your help to getthem done. Scroll up and down the job sheet menu to pick a task, and whether it's Mrs.Potts's fence, the town hall roof, feeding Pilchard, or fixing a wall with muck,it will keep the little ones busy for hours. Each smiley machine has his ownadventure for Bob to take part in, and the graphics are superb (as in all BBCchildren's games), clearly replicating these extremely popular characters. The controls are simple and intuitive, and the enclosed instructions areillustrative and clear, taking players through the games one step at a time. They also include a number of handy hints in case building doesn't come asnaturally to everyone as it does to Bob. For little ones who are pestering parents to buy them video games, this title isa great opportunity to combine education with entertainment. Young children willwhile away long car or plane journeys quite happily without even realizingthey're learning about shapes and patterns, numbers and letters, and tidying upand fixing things, as well as developing their hand-eye coordination andreasoning and concentration skills. (The value is much the same as when childrenuse an educational CD-ROM.) For Bob fans everywhere, or youngsters who love using their older brother's orsister's Game Boy, Bob the Builder: Fix-It Fun lives up to its BBCcredentials: it is safe, fun, and educational. It's also the kind of video gameevery parent is looking to find. --Lucie Naylor ... Read more Reviews (6)
Secondly, each level rewards you with a password. You re-enter this password whenever you start playing which brings you back to your current level. This would be fine if the child knew how to read and told me about the password, but he since he can't he just skips right over it and the password is lost. He needs to start from square one each time. Which leads to the next problem.... You have to accomplish 10 tasks (aquire 10 passwords) before you get to play with Scoop. This is so discouraging for my son because he loves Scoop. It's his favorite character and the only one he is interested in playing with. He's also the hardest to master. So if you don't write down those passwords and help your child enter them, they'll never get to play with Scoop. How nice it would have been if the game had automatically saved your level each time you played. Is that too much to ask for in a preschool game?

Super Smash Bros Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge list price: $49.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review All of your favorite Nintendo characters have come together to answer the question: who is king of the Nintendo hill? The format can aptly be described as Super Mario Kart meets Mortal Kombat, which makes for an odd, yet addictive game. The object is to throw, punch, smash, or blast your opponents off the edge of the beautifully rendered, themed arenas. Numerous power-ups, weapons, and surprises help or hinder the melee. Your eventual goal is to fight your way through to a bizarre final boss character. Victory in this battle rewards you with another character to play, such as the scene-stealing Pokémon, Jigglypuff. From Star Fox's laser pistol to Link's hook shot, each character's trademark special abilities are utilized to knock one another off the screen. The game does a great job balancing the characters' widely differing powers so that no one character has an insurmountable advantage. The sound and animations are also dead-on: Donkey Kong is a huge, cartoonish ape, while Link is much more detailed and realistic. And Pikachu's famous thunder shock attack is accompanied by a fearsome yell of "PIKA!" Unlike most fighting games, Super Smash Bros. allows you to team up with a computer partner and take on other teams in both single and multiplayer modes. But the most fun is had when four human players play in a battle royale. The game quickly becomes a scene of incredibly fun chaos: picture Mario beating up on Luigi, while Donkey Kong is chased by a scampering, sledgehammer-wielding Pikachu. It's the perfect party game. --Hugh Arnold Pros:

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge (17 May, 2001) list price: $34.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review One of two new Zelda games for the Game Boy Color, TheLegend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages is geared towards the cerebralgamer, with its heavy focus on puzzle solving. The Triforce has alertedLink to trouble in the land of Labrynna, where the evil sorceress Veranhas possessed Nayru, the Oracle of Ages. Veran travels back in time, setting up events that lead to a world where evil dominates. It's up toyou to help Link stop Veran and set things straight. Game mechanics and menus are similar to those found inLink'sAwakening, also for the Game Boy. As in almost every Zeldagame, you have to traverse eight dungeons and find eight key items. Theharp of time is vital to your quest--it's required to manipulate eventsand stop Veran's rewriting of history. Although this game is extremely enjoyable on its own, you'll want touse it in conjunction with its sister title:Oracle ofSeasons. After you complete one game, you'll be given apassword that lets you begin with all your items, statistics, andprogress intact in the other. Certain characters will appear only byplaying both games. By using a link cable, players can trade items.Game Boy Advance users will find a store that's exclusive to them. While this is an excellent game, it might be too complicated foryounger gamers or those looking for mindless fun. --Raymond M.Padilla Pros:
