Complete with all 31 NFL teams, as well as legendary teams from years past, Madden NFL 2002 delivers hard-hitting action. The 2002 release adds all-new player face and body technology and hundreds of new animations. Its upgraded coach animations heighten the drama on the field, and it's still the only game that lets the coaches roam the sidelines.

Taking you beyond the broadcast, Madden NFL 2002 delivers exhibition, season, playoff, two-minute drill, and tournament modes. You can also play in franchise mode and take complete control in a quest for NFL glory. The 2002 release of this popular NFL series also takes you inside the huddle with new camera replay angles, and it delivers widescreen TV support. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Madden 2001 with a twist? Nope, much much more!!!
I know what most people are thinking, that Madden 2002 is simply last year's version, rehashed and brought back for another year. On the contrary, theres a lot of new things to like about Madden 2002, and the usual things that made last year's title so great.

Graphically, EA has done a superb job here, with the players faces and uniforms being portrayed very very well. They look way more realistic than last year's "we are space aliens who've come to earth and infiltrated your NFL players" looks. The coaches who hover about on the sidelines are the best looking of any football game to date. Heck even the snow looks nicer, it doesnt just fall, it blows in from the sides, as if it were really a blizzard out there. And yes, we finally have cheerleaders!!! Ea Sports' addressed concerns about last years ballplayers being all the same size, so this year, players are noticibly more slender, while still having that football player build. Like NCAA 2002, it reads the clock on your PS2, so if you're playing a game at night, it will start your game at night as well, or if you're playing at dusk, with the sun going down, you may start the game with the sun up, but by the time the game is over, it'll be dark. Little touches like this help to add realism to the game, theyre all over the place and it shows.

Soundwise, its what you'd expect from a great title like this. A snazzy new opening kicks off most games, followed by player intros, at least from the home team. John Madden and Pat Summerall are back and Madden is as witty as ever, "he put too much mustard on that one!". Adding to the humorous reparte is Leslie Visser, with a few bits and pieces thrown in, proving that football announcing isnt just a male oriented sport.

The game is literally overflowing with features. Theres the all-new two minute drill, where you run plays and try to get as many touchdowns as you can within the last 2 minutes of a game. I personally love this idea, as it lets you earn tokens for Madden Cards without having to play a whole game. Speaking of Madden Cards, theyre back, in the standard flavored, bronze, silver and gold. While they might not be everyone's cup of tea, theyre a great incentive to keep playing, to collect them all and unlock classic teams and stadiums. You can even collect cheerleader cards which give your players a (ratings)real boost. The franchise mode is deep as heck and goes on for an amazing thirty seasons. Another feature that is very nice is the ability to import your exported draft teams from NCAA 2002, if you have it (and who doesnt?). The controls for the most part are unchanged since last year, so even players who havent yet picked up a Madden game can jump right in with little trouble.

There is a lot to like here, and while its not quite a perfect football game yet, its darn close. Do yourself a favor and pick up Madden 2002 today.

2-0 out of 5 stars Graphics, playing modes- yes. But not much else.
Madden 2002 is an improvement over 2001 in many ways, especially graphics. They are crisper, less slowdown. Visually, it's a great game. I also like the playing modes, the fact that you can draft players uploaded from EA's NCAA Football game. That's great that you can bring players up all the way from the college level.

But....as has happened before in the Madden series, we've taken a step backward in gameplay. I remember in Madden 2001, I used to have passing dogfights with human counterparts. The passing game would be dominated by whoever wanted the ball more. You HAD to switch to the receiver/defensive back involved in the play, or you wouldn't make the reception or you wouldn't keep your opponent from making the reception. The game rewarded you for actually try to make your own plays in the passing game without CPU assistance, making it feel like the best player was winning the battle, as well as making the game more fun.

In 2002, the CPU is superior 9 times out of 10 in a passing play. It's smarter to let the CPU make plays for you, both offensively and defensively. Therefore, if you are on offense, and you want to run a passing play- you simply push a button to snap the ball, push a button to throw, and hope for the best. If you try and toggle control to the receiver, the CPU defender will beat you to the ball most every time. Also, there have been times when other CPU defenders, who aren't even visible on the screen at screen at the time of the throw, will run underneath the play and intercept the pass, without any buttons actually being pushed by the defensive player. The same problems exist when you're defending. The CPU controlled offensive receiver will beat you most times. And to make matters worse, in trying to make a play on the ball, you've gotten yourself out of any position to make a tackle, and the CPU controlled receiver is running for an easy touchdown after the catch. That's just not fun, and it doesn't reward the BETTER player. I'm a Madden Vet, been playing since 91, and in the 2002 version, I'm getting beat by players who have only played the game a handful of times. Rookies of this series should not be able to handle the veterans like this. The people at EA need to go back and look at problems like these before 2003 comes out in the fall. If they don't, then I'm neither buying the game, or playing it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this Game!
Well,
I just want to say that this games truly rocks! I love the graphics, the animations, sound bytes, season and franchise mode and the hype of going thru a season/play-offs and going all the way against the computer in all-madden mode. As a matter of fact I just lead my San Fransico 49'ers to a "Super Bowl win in year 1 in franchise mode against the Indianapolis Colts on Chirstmas eve 2003. (final score 24-21)I am getting ready to shape my roster to start year 2. In fact I love the on the field graphics even better than "NFL MADDEN 2004", although the 2004 version has more features both on and off the field I still think the overall on the field animation and clear cut look around the field and view of the players is better and more realistic than '04. Heck, I didn't care to buy the 2003 or 2004 version. I'am quite satisfied with "NFL MADDEN 2002". I hope that the 2005 game is similar in on the field style and graphics as 2002, then I would like to upgrade perhaps. I won't deny I wish the play-by-play comentary was a bid sharper with each play and situation, sometimes I hear good old John Madden say a comment that has nothing to do with what's really going on in the game. For instance, I am playing a game right, and its barely still early in the first or second quarter and say I am loosing by 7-10 points and I decide to run the ball and John says, its no longer time to run the ball any more. Could it be that I play 6 minute quarters? Oh well, things like that. I also would love to see more hype and celebration after each win! Special after a play-off win, and oh yeah, please make more on the field celebration and commenatary after getting and winnig the SUPER BOWL! How about showing the legendary Lombardy Thorphy please!

Your game guides come in very handy thank you! I do own the game guide for "MADDEN 2002" it has made me a much better player.

I hope this games keep getting better in every way!

Sincerly,

Julio ... Read more

Editorial Review

With Grand Theft Auto III, Rockstar proves that not alldevelopers are concerned with toning down the violence in their games. Thissequel is even more bloody, violent, and sadistic than its popular predecessors, offering up an enormous 3-D city in which nearly any criminal act is possible.Players are free to steal cars, beat up the local population for their money (orweapons), make time with prostitutes, or simply roam to their heart's content. Those seeking more structure can embark on dozens of plot-driven missions orsteal cars that let them play minigames. Nab a cop car and you can go onvigilante missions. Grab a cab and you can play a deadly version of CrazyTaxi. Take a fire truck and you can earn money putting out fires. The gamejust never gets boring.

As in real life, there are consequences for your criminality. As your randomacts of mayhem mount up, the police start hounding you, eventually calling inSWAT trucks, the FBI, and even the army if you continue down the path ofdestruction. Shaking these pursuers is easily the most fun part of the game, especially when a bunch of friends are packed in the room to witness your narrowescapes.

Grand Theft Auto III is fine-tuned to near perfection in every category. All the vehicles, from slick sports cars to lumbering dump trucks, handleexactly as you'd expect and smash apart realistically when abused. The threeislands in the game are rendered in terrific detail considering their size, andare packed with traffic, pedestrians, and hidden jumps. The audio is equallyamazing. Pedestrians talk, cops scream at you, and you can tune in ninedifferent radio stations whenever you are in a car. It all adds up to amonumental achievement: the rare console game for adults that manages to geteverything right. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Offers an enormous world for players to exploit, rendered in staggeringdetail
  • Equally fun whether you go on plot-based missions or run around as afreelance crook
Cons:
  • Ultraviolence, foul language, and adult situations mean you'll want to keepthis far away from kids
  • It takes too long to get from one island to another, making some missionstedious

5-0 out of 5 stars Beat GTA3 bring on Vice City!!
Beat gta3 and it only took my forever! I really can't say how many hours I have put into this fabulous game, but I was definitely surprised on how many missions there are. I kept saying to myself "I've got to be getting close", but it just kept going. It amazed me that not only was there a lot of missions, but the missions were really well thought out and took quite a bit of unique strategy. It's possible for two different people to take on different methods for beating the same mission. After you beat the game you are still able to play, meaning you can save the game after you win and there will be no more missions for you to go on (your just left to have fun in the city). The music to this game is great. I've hooked up my minidisc player to the stereo and recorded some of the songs by chillin in a car with the radio on. Also when you beat the game and the credits role they play you a pretty good techno song as well. Now I just have to convert these nice sounds into mp3.

Couple things I have noticed that you may have not. There is a car out there that has hydraulics you can trigger by pressing L3 button or R3 (can't remember which). Second, one of the radio dj's name is DJ Michael Hunt. Why is that funny? Think about when Bart Simpson prank call's Moe's tavern.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Carjacking, Civilian Beating, Joy-Ride!!!
This IS whithout a doubt the best (not to mention most addictive) game I have ever played. It's just a downright, Carjacking Romp. If you haven't played this game yet, you MUST play this before you play it's sequel GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS.

To be honest, I thought this game would be a terible game, Infact, I was avoiding buying this game. Man have I missed A LOT! Honestly, I's not that bad, to all of you "uptight" mom's. Ofcourse the premise of the game is to steal cars, but it's still very tame for it's mature rating.

Alright, first of all, the ability to just jump grab any car you want and just jump right in, is AWESOME, I mean it really doesn't matter, as long as it has wheels and doors, you can drive it. From Station Wagons to Stallions and Ambulances to Firetrucks.

When you're in a Firetruck or a Policecar can do these vigilante missions where you foil crooks, put out fires and rescue the injured.

In this game there are 3 islands you can travel and roam in, irst of all there's Portland which is pretty much the same as New York. You get you're street reputation in Portland.

Alright this game has it all, the violence, the story and even the hot chicks. And something that is really different is that the game is just enjoyable all the way through and you look forward to your next mission and you're always suprised and amazed by the bizarrely fun missions you have. From running away from the Triads is a Souped up Mafia car, to crrying a dead body to a car crusher, it's just all out F..U..N!

The story evolves very well, and goes up as you would expect it, you start out as a lowly guy and work for Luigi, a pimp (to certain rights) and then, as your reputation gets better, and word starts to spread on your feats, you get contacted by Joey, Toni Cipnelli and Diablo himself. Wow, I want to play this game even more now that i'm writing a review about it.

Oh, and the game has pretty much infinate replay value becasue of (1) it's length (by the time you beat it and star over again you won't remember most of the missions) and (2)Ther's just so much to do in between missions. From beating innocent civilians to "'Jackin' some sweet wheels" you can make a day out of it.(Honestly).

Breakdown:

Graphics: 15/10 Great, really crisp and really responsive, from busting up a car to shooting people...it looks real alright!

Gameplay: 15/10 TONS of Fun, yet still simple. Of course it would deserve a 20, if you could crouch and commit drive by's.

Fun: 25/10 This is THE best game EVER (well so far) you get to run around and kill hookers and civilians, and get to steal cars...it doesn't get much better than this.

Difficulty: 10/10 can be a real "toughy at times", especially when you're trying to take down an armored car, while tons of cops swarm around you..it's a real nail biter.

Overall:65/40 what is there to say, just look at the total. haha.

Alright first of all, Buy this game, then play it and the first time you get bored of the game (about 12-18 months after you get it, research Grand theft auto San Andreas, it looks awesome.

This is esential to any teen's PS2 game library. It's really a lot of fun to play, no matter who you are. I mean anyone with a PS2 should and must own this game. Even the most "Uptown" people will find beating innocent civilians a lot of fun.

Buy it. Play it. Enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars This game rocks
This game rocks. My whole family is addicted to it even my anti-violence mom. The gameplay is great with 18 civilazations u can play as each one with its own unique abilitys and strengths. the graphics aren't stupendous but aren't bad either. i have played the game for hours upon hours and it is still fun. As you play u find new strategies and new approaches to the computer. also the computer puts up a good fight if u have The conquerors installed. unlike the Age of Kings where the computer makes tons of villagers and almost no army. but overall it is a great game that is definetly worth the cash.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best real time strategy (RTS) game ever!
The Age of Kings (AoK) along with its expansion pack, AoK:TC (The Conquerors--which we now call "AoC" when both are installed) is a superb game for either "Multiplayers" who play on-line or "Singleplayers" who don't. If a game which has a historical aspect to it which resides in the 1,000 year realm of ancient history stated has appeal for you (which isn't all 'hoked_up' with fantasy creatures), you cannot go wrong with purchasing the "Gold pack". I've been playing AoK/AoC for more than 2 years now and it still holds fascination for me... and many others that I know. Just today I was teaching one of my 10 year old grandsons about the game when he was visiting. We'll get him the Gold pack. My son introduced me to the game in Dec. '99.

Yes, in order to play AoC which epitomizes the development of the game, you need to install from both disks, first installing AoK, then removing it and installing the AoK:TC disk which you leave in the tray (it must be in there when you want to play). You can then go online to either Microsoft's or Ensemble Studios' websites for the game, Age of Kings: The Conquerors, and download the 1.0c patch which fixes any minor 'bugs' discovered and rectifies a few civilization "balancing issues" which have come up. Thus buying the Gold pack is a real good deal for anyone getting the game now as it cost me more than twice as much to have bought AoK & then AoK:TC, as they came out.

There are so many ways to play this game that it almost boggles the mind, but preferred game modes are "Conquest" followed by "Deathmatch" in popularity amongst "Agers". If you really want to learn to play the game using the various "strategies" for the 18 civilizations which Agers have developed, it's a good idea to join a good Ager gaming clan such as Tonto Clan, which caters to both Multi- and Singleplayers. You can find Tonto Clan by doing a websearch for "tontoclan1", or look for "Tonto Empire". The clan celebrates its 2nd birthday the 13th of March, 2002, so you know they aren't fly-by-nighters. And that's a good place to ask any questions one might have about the game.

A final thought: "Real Time Strategy" is a bit of a misnomer, oxymoron, in computer games as "twitch-and-bang" on the keyboard doesn't really give a person time to think, only act and react. But an aspect of AoC that makes it come closer to being enabled as a true strategy and tactics game is that you have the "Pause key" which when playing Singleplayer you can use to pause the game in progress in order to "think on it" a bit and decide what next you want to do. This brings yet another dimension to the game that most don't have.

There are other RTS 'historically based war games' which have come out since "Age", but it is surprising how many people will try them and then just keep coming back.... to AoC. And, for my money the next RTS slated to come along that might be as good or possibly better isn't projected to hit the market until Spring (if then) of 2003.

5-0 out of 5 stars Automated farms are great
1. Farmers start a new farm once the old one is done, you can queue. any one who ever played AOE-I knows how great that is :).
2. The addition of Gates makes for nice Castle building
3. Villagers automatically start a new task when they finish a work type building (granary, storage, town center)
4. UNIT FORMATIONS!!! my personal favorite only second to the Farm queue. It adds a whole new dimension to battle tactics. huge improvement from AOE-I
5. Advanced unit commands. Follow, Protect, Patrol, they just make this game so much nicer.
6. the ability to toggle around to your inactive (we'll call it that) villagers. "where's my whip"

All this improvements have the feel of AOE developers playing their own game and saying "gee wouldn't it be nice if we had this" they realy polished this game. It belongs in anyone's greatest games list. Easy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Jump!
Wow! A Zelda on a 16 bit system? That's what I said at first when I found out that a new game in the series was coming to the SNES, and what a surprise it was! Those of us who have been with Link since the old school days of "The Legend of Zelda" really appreciated this one when it came out. The graphics were intense the plot was deep, and there were so many new things to find. A person could immerse themselves in this game for hours and even days on end without stopping to eat, sleep, or use the bathroom (yes that was me, well almost). I remeber the countless hours I spent finding heart containers, weapons, and other things in this game, along with all of the good memories that it brought as well. The dungeons seemed immense and endless with the multiple floors that were introduced in this game, and continued throughout the series. I highly recommend this game, and as with everyone else that fell in love with the Zelda series this game is one of my most prized games and I will hold in my collection as long as I live.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Link to the Past: Games don't get better than this!
This is, by far, the best adventure-based video game of all time. Sure, the graphics aren't 3-dimensional, but the game was released for Super Nintendo twelve years ago! What do you expect? The plot is as follows (don't worry, I won't spoil everything):
Princess Zelda is trapped somewhere in a deep dungeon, and talks to a young boy named Link through his dreams. She is asking him for help...But where is she? Link's uncle rushes out into the stormy night and to Hyrule Castle, and Link secretly follows, but only to find his uncle lying on the ground in the castle! This is only the beginning of the adventure...
In this game, there's action, adventure, and awesome revelations! Collect cool equipment such as the legendary Master Sword, meet new friends and enemies along the way,and even find a sinister, parallel world...
Please don't miss out on this game!

5-0 out of 5 stars An instant classic
Zelda LTP is one of the best games ever made. The plot is superb in every way. The level desighn is off the chart. This game truly deserves some credit. I was so addictive to this game when I first got it which was round 1996. The Game was simply a masterpiece. The controls for the snes was good I really had fun with it acctually.

If you're looking for a classic to find and buy Go and buy this...Trust me this is a classic...The game doesn't cotst much either.

4-0 out of 5 stars Metroid - Der Kommissar's Definitive Review
...With the release of the two new Metroid games, I thought it seemed only right to review the game that started it all. So, here goes!

Graphics: 4/5 - For the NES you really can't do a whole lot better. But still, I have seen better NES graphics than this, and this game really could have pulled it off a little better.

Play Control: 4.5/5 - Simple but effective scheme. Shoot and jump. It feels a bit strange at times but it's good overall.

Challenge: 4.25/5 - For being released in 1986 this game's TOUGH! You've got difficult platform jumps, sometimes over pits of acid. You've got enemies of all shapes and sizes, as well as three boss characters. And in the final area, you'll meet a deadly series of villains (the title characters.) These guys are not easy to kill by any means. This game uses passwords to save progress, not batteries like later Metroid games. I would've liked batteries in this game, but I'm just thankful you can save your progress.

Theme/Fun: 4.5/5 - Excellent overall. In this game, as you go on, you collect items which basically upgrade yourself. Missile Batteries allow you to carry and fire rockets. Each additional one adds 10 to your maximum total, up to 255. Energy tanks add 100 units to your life, to a maximum of 699. The round ball lets you turn into a ball and explore tight spaces. The bomb power-up lets you drop bombs in ball form. The Long Beam gives you shots that travel the length of the screen. The Ice Beam gives you a beam that freezes almost any enemy. The Wave Beam is an ultra-powerful beam that goes through walls. The Screw Attack transforms your spin jump into a deadly weapon. The Varia decreases the damage total you take. The High Jump Boots do just what they say they do. However, the ice beam overrides the wave beam, and vice versa, meaning for the final showdown you'll have to find another ice beam. That's a little annoying but no big deal. With these upgrades you'll be more than a match for your enemies.

If you own an NES this is a game you should not be without. If you don't own an NES, but have a GCN, GBA, cable to connect the two, Metroid Prime, and Metroid Fusion, and you beat Metroid Fusion, you can play this original NES title on the GCN (and save progress on a memory card!) This game is just too cool to pass by.

5-0 out of 5 stars One classic game on a CLASSIC system!
Metroid was one of the best games of all time! Kids back in the late 80's, early 90's had the best toys! Of course Im just saying that because Im a child of the 80's, everything back then was a total winner in my eyes. Metroid is a classic, plain and simple. The idea behind it is pretty simple. You play as this hardcore chick named "Samus", through the game you explore new worlds and fight different creatures. The more you play the game, the more Samus up grades her wepons. Missles, lazer beams and bombs are the order of the day. Yeah', sure. The graphics are really [dorky] compared to the games of today, but isn't it about play value? Metroid has ALOT of it too! Good 'ol NES! Warms my heart to see others writting comments about this
"old school" classic. Other games that are note worthy I listed below. ENJOY YOURSELF!

2) MEGA MAN (any of the series)
3) KID ICARUS

5-0 out of 5 stars The game that defined open-ended exploration; a true classic
In 1986, METROID forever changed the face of video gaming. A richly atmospheric title, METROID offered a darker, grainier side to the bright images and sunshine gaming that were at that time populating Nintendo. (To this day Nintendo still specialises in that 'sunshine gaming,' with more titles for little kids than adults, but that's rather beside the point). SUPER MARIO BROTHERS, the 8-Bit's flagship title, was colourful, woefully short, and a fun jaunt to rescue Princess Toadstool from the evil Bowser. SUPER MARIO BROTHERS displayed a mastery of excellent level design, but it did not take long to beat. The rest of the video games at that time, san ZELDA and KID ICARUS, were also of a relative simple nature.

Enter Samus Aran. This was a game that offered unprecedented depth of play, was dark and grisly, and had great, mood setting music, and long, twisting corridors that led you deep into the Space Pirates' lair. An incredibly large game for the time, comparable only to THE LEGEND OF ZELDA and KID ICARUS of the first generation Nintendo titles, you could wander around for hours, exploring and gaining access to new areas with new items. I tend to think of KID ICARUS (why didn't this become a franchise???) and METROID as brothers, and ZELDA and METROID as first cousins. While ZELDA offers a very innovative, opened-ended (for the time) overworld experience with fantasy elements, METROID does the same type of innovation for side-scrollers, with a map just as expansive (though in a different format) as ZELDA. Which brings me to the actual game play of METROID.

Metroid operates as one long map broke off into sections. There is no level progressions like Mario. But the game does contain you too certain areas that only opens up after you had receive new items. These items are cleverly hidden throughout the game's map, and just when you think you've come to a dead end, suddenly you bomb the floor and a whole new area opens before you. And the game isn't too kind when it set you down in that opening area of Brinstar. Equipped with only 30 energy units, Samus has to be tough to survive. Energy is scarce and can be time-consuming to collect. (Compare obtaining life in METROID to SUPER METROID; in SUPER METROID there's all sorts of energy). The energy being so hard to collect, and the ungodly complex password system, do flaw the game, but we have to remember this is a first gen NES title, so you have to cut it some slack.

Now would be a good time to talk about METROID's glitch. Much like the negative world in SUPER MARIO BROTHERS, METROID has one of the most famous glitches in the video gaming world. Called the Secret Worlds, you use a wall jumping technique that enables you to get to "new areas" of the game that are otherwise unreachable. Thought to be a secret, an intentional programming easter egg, these Secret Worlds, while still fun to search for, are not intentional. They are glitches. Search the Internet to find out all about these secret areas.

After transversing Brinstar and Norfair, getting new items, then Samus has to fight through the two bosses' hideouts and put them down before the final confrontation: Mother Brain. My favorite old school enemy, Mother Brain is a proven nemesis, much harder to beat than the laughably pathetic Bowser or even the more challenging Gannon. On top of that, once you beat her you have to get out of Tourian within a certain time limit (admittedly, it's more than enough time to get out). Even though Mother Brain's tough, we video gamers led Samus to victory countless times because of the stupendous game play and the compelling story. Once Mother Brain is dead and we get Samus out of Tourian, then the real payoff is unleashed. Samus is a WOMAN! And if you beat the game under certain time limits, you get different endings. During the days of rescuing damsels in distresses with a Brooklyn plumber or a green-clad boy, Samus's gender is very revolutionary, which brings me to the story aspect of METROID, which is currently under attack by ZERO MISSION.

METROID's best features are successfully combines rich story-telling (for the NES) with innovative gameplay. This isn't a kid's game like Mario. This is a classic science fiction story, heavily influenced by Ridley Scott's ALIEN. Metroid is a story of a Space Federation fighting for its very survival against the fearsome Mother Brain and its two subordinates, Ridley and Kraid, who had stolen the Metroids and had their own devious designs for them. I have a sneaking suspicion that the boss Ridley was named after Sigourney Weaver's character and Ridley Scott. Gunpei Yokoi, executive produce of METROID (and also one of the chief developers of the original Game Boy), said that while ALIEN was never specifically discussed during Metroid's development, it cast a heavy shadow over METROID. That same dark terror, about never knowing what was around the next corner and how you were hoping, against all odds, that Ridley in ALIEN and Samus in the game would come out on top, forever cemented both tales in the imaginations of their prospective audiences.

Because of the gameplay and atmospheric story, Samus Aran has become a classic video game icon. Thankfully, after many long years the METROID franchise has become alive again with new releases. But for those who want to relive the Samus's first glory, then this game would hold you enthralled. This is truly a classic game.

P. S. Unfortunately, do to the realitive simplicity of the NES version of events, Nintendo has saw fit to introduce a radical remake of the game on METROID: ZERO MISSION, enlarging it and changing around events. While I enjoyed ZM, I felt it much to linear and went against what made the original so great to begin with: open-ended exploration. See my METROID: ZERO MISSION review for more details. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best!
Kid Icarus is one of the best Nintendo games ever created. Even though it's horribly old, it's still a challenge and has a gaming strategy that was virtually non-existent in most other NES games.
I highly recommend this game to anyone who has never played it.

3-0 out of 5 stars An NES classic
In the eighties, Nintendo released what was to be part of a two-part series: Kid Icarus. This was one of the earliest Nintendo games to use a password. Read on for my review of this NES classic.

THE GOOD:
As someone on a web site once put it, the game is like a cross between Zelda and Metroid. You play the role of a young angel whose land has been invaded by demons. THE TITLE CHARACTER'S NAME IS PIT, NOT KID ICARUS (I'm sure Captain N: The Game Master made a lot of people think differently, though.) As you progress through the game you can buy items using hearts you get from defeating enemies. It's a shame this game was only a two-part series, because it sure was fun.

THE BAD:
The major fault of this game is its stiff play control. YOU CANNOT CONTROL YOUR JUMPS IN MIDAIR. Likewise, you can't backtrack in the vertical stages. Fall down to where there appears to be no floor and you're dead. This makes the game highly unforgiving. The graphics aren't too great either, they're supbar even for the NES. Also, the passwords are an insanely long twenty-four digits! To make matters worse, the passwords use both upper and lower case letters, and O and 0, which are not interchangable (fortunately modern gaming has fixed this.) Though this is a good game there are better classic NES games.

OVERALL:
I DO recommend buying this game if you have an NES, but be warned - IT IS NOT EASY. If you decide to play it, I recommend playing it on an emulator so you can save your progress (and therefore don't have to bother with passwords.)

5-0 out of 5 stars one of THE best.
quite possibly THE best game for the old 8-bit "antique" {can i say that}. geez i'm getting old. i remember craving an intelivision then atari then coleco {first to represnt the classic donkey kong i think} and then the C64 {man, lemmings was such an awsomly addictive game}. after all that came the all mighty 8-bit wonderland called "nintendo". "kid icarus" along with "metroid" where the two first games my parents graced me with WAY back in the day. O.K. i was going somewhere with this but i've lost my train of thought. ...oh, this game is old but it's still AWESOME. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best ever!
This is the best football game ever. It was well ahead of its day many years ago, and it is still fun to play today. For head to head competition, there has never been a better game to test a player's skills. The games of today play themselves too much. They just don't make them like this anymore.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Super Bowl is near, Win you are champs, Lose...
This game is the best football around, while DSF has more of a complex system along with madden, TSB NES IS CLASSIC. there are injuries and recoveries, an injury will play a musical sting called "Hurting" plays while the injured is helped off the field of the TECMO referee and the TECMO First-Aid Team. When a player is recovered, you see the player running out of the hospital while a sting called "Recover", the nurses wave good-bye and good luck to the recovered player while the display says
"TECMO FLASH!"
(Name Of Player)
[Flashing Lights] "RECOVERED!"
The game play is simplistic and easy, difficult it is although!

5-0 out of 5 stars The funnest football game uve ever played

5-0 out of 5 stars But the game to Fight Iron Mike in the only feasible way
Mike Tyson's punch out is the single best game ever...
and I am saying this with a clear head.
Took me 10 years to beat that game.

Mike, we know you threw the Lewis fight so you could crush his jaw in the rematch. There was probably some backroom understanding that you had to be embarrassed and KO'd in order to get Lewis in the ring. I look forward to the rematch.

Some advice Tyson... get some better trainers. The media and liberal nuts hate you, but you have a huge fanbase that loves your story and talent and wants you to regain the championship.
Some say you disgrace boxing. I disagree, you are boxing. If I had a year to train, I would enjoy sparring with you in Joe Frazier's Gym in Philly. But for now, I will enjoy your Nintendo game.

In your next match play LL's "Mama said knock you out" and knock the guy out quickly and painfully.

Peace out,
Demetrios

4-0 out of 5 stars TKO!
Before he was convicted of sexual assault, before he beat his wife half to death, and before he bit Evander Hollyfield's ear, Mike Tyson signed a deal with Nintendo to make a video game that pits a wiery-looking teenager nick-named Little Mac against (in order of appearance) Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, Piston Honda, Don Flaminco, The Hippo King, Great Tiger, Bald Bull, Piston Honda again, Soda Popinski, Don Flaminco again, Bald Bull again, Mr. Sandman, Super Macho Man, then eventually Mike Tyson. The bad news: You're not Mike Tyson, you're Little Mac. Fortunately, you have a chubby coach in your corner with a never-say-die attitude and a shiny pink bike (who says gay people have no place in video games?).
So while the game isn't 2-players and you can't fight as Mike Tyson, it's still one of the best boxing video games you'll ever play.

5-0 out of 5 stars Punchout
Oh my deary, where do I start with this game? I started playing this when I was 4 years old and every once and a while I'll break out the Nintendo and play it some more. This is the ultimate video game and even though this is the same as the original, except with Mike Tyson instead of Mr. Dream, there is something about this game that has always been a little more special to me. Mike just seems like a better opponent than Dream. Anyway, I think everyone with an NES should have this game because its hours of fun even if you hate boxing. I know I do. I just wish Nintendo would realize what a goldmine they were sitting on and release it on GBA like they did with Zelda, SMB, Ice Climber, Excitebike..., That will be a great day when I get to play it on my Gamecube instead of my dirty ol' half-dead NES. ...
