    Parasite Eve 2

    Editorial Review

Three years ago, gamers were introduced to Aya as she resigned from theNew York Police Department and enlisted as a NMC (neo-mitochondrion creature)hunter for the shadowy government organization M.I.S.T., a secret agency ofmonster slayers somewhere between Ghostbusters and Men in Black.Wherever there was a neo-mitochondrion outbreak, Aya and her team were on thescene to put the boots to the mutants. From the outset, it's evident thatSquareSoft revamped the entire game to give gamers a better looking, sounding, and (most importantly) playing experience.

The game starts with Aya training in the agency's shooting gallery in LosAngeles. Just as she begins to get in a groove, she is asked to look into somestrange happenings at the Akropolis Tower. When she arrives on the scene, anexplosive, full-motion video flashes across the screen and showcases the deathand carnage as Aya surveys the scene. Her entry into the Tower is where this RPGbegins.

SquareSoft has kept some of the excellent elements of the weapons systems fromthe first Parasite Eve title, but went for an entirely new battle system.Combat is delivered in real time and allows players to run, hide, and open fire.Aya can tap into her parasitic powers and can unleash elemental, magic-basedattacks on the many foes she encounters. Ammunition is plentiful in the game andthere are plenty of entertaining weapons to choose from. Auto targeting andinvolving puzzles are back, though the arrow-pointing interface for solvingthese puzzles is really hard to operate.

The cinematic mix of story and action is very well done, and the numerouscutscenes do an excellent job of moving the pace along in a believable way.

Even though the original Parasite Eve had its problems, SquareSoft haspieced together an excellent sequel that will satisfy fans of the first game andhelp create many new ones. --Todd Mowatt

    Pros:

    • New, real-time battle system is an improvement over first ParasiteEve
    • Great weapons and plentiful ammunition
    • Great mix of story and action
    Cons:
    • Clunky interface for solving puzzles

4-0 out of 5 stars I cant believe how much fun i had
I had so much fun with this game. I have not played the first but i hear many good things, the game play is fun, u know u are in a battle b/c ur controller and the screen shake and invert to black and white. The monsters are various and very different, then any Resident Evil game, it is almost like Resident Evil yet itn't i never really got into RE until i played this game now i have RE Zero and some for PSone. If u dont like a kind of game that has some of the sickest guns u will ever see, then u are in need of mental help, the bosses are different. Some of the bosses i could not beat until i decided to try a different way that i would have never done before b/c usually it would be suicide. So u have to think outside the box for the bosses in this game. They are not just hit hit hit and hit some more. like the final bosses u can die no matter how high ur health is u will still die from one hit of it's "core" beam. so to find out what is so great go out and buy it b/c it is inexpensive.

1-0 out of 5 stars A bad sequel
I am not what one might call an overly hyped video game player. I dont go out and buy the next installment of FF (after VIII, it really got bad imo), I enjoyed .hack and its storyline though (but I felt that the series could have been brought together into one large game like with FFVII). Then there is the PE video game, I loved the first one, had some trouble, but over all it was a great game. I knew there was a part 2, so I found a copy and started playing it. Boy...was I disappointed.

First, the game play is terrible, the movement is haphazard, the angles are horrific, and its down right troublesome (unlike the first one). I loathed the movement, there was none of the smoothness of the first one.

Second, I hated the leveling, what leveling there is. You dont go up in your hit points, you barely go up in MPs and parasite powers, and even worse, when you go to a next scene (from one point to the next in the story) you go back down to your 100 hit points.

Third, which is related to the angles, the combat is atrocious. There is nothing quick and exciting, in fact its down right stressful because (since you rarely have a chance to get items for health unless you spend "money" between the scenes at home base) you end up dying again and again until low and behold you get through with maybe 1 hit point left and then WHAM you are hit by another attack and you have to do the whole stupid thing over again. Even worse, the camera angles are so bad you rarely if ever see the enemies and just shoot blindly.

Fourth, connected to three, the weapons are horrible to use. You end up getting killed repeatedly because you have to jerkingly reload so many times that when you are facing multiple opponents (unlike the smoothness of the original first story) and youre going to get killed unless you spend hours dealing with one combat situation.

Fifth, items, with the original first game, you got lots and lots of items. With this game, you are in luck if after three or four attacks (bringing you down to 1 hit point) you finally strike it and get a recovery2 pill that brings you back up to original hit points but then again those hit points are taken down again by the end of the next combat round.

While the story line might be interesting, it fails in comparison to the first one and by all means, the poorness of this game in the controlling just makes you so fed up that you dont care how this story ends. Its a bad, bad game that could have been a great sequel if only the company had followed the original game's beauty. Dont buy this game unless you have lots of headache medicine.

I can't believe it, but I actually hate this game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Squaresoft scores with a flashy new sequel
Okay, a disease that quickly infects people and animals rips flesh, opens sores and disease quickly erodes all resemblance to what they once were and transforms them into rabid beasts. Don't you just hate it when that happens.

While completely unbelievable, I find myself quickly immersed with Parasite Eve II. An attractive woman called Aya Brea with a hardened background in New York crime fighting is back again fighting 'NMCs', neo-mitochondria, basically the disease mentioned above.

I'm impressed with the realistic graphics and the all-too chilling cutscenes and rampant beasts; some are laudable, some disgusting, some chilling. Parasite Eve II now has an even darker glow to it, but loses it's RPG edge in place of Action/Adventure.

I really love how anyone can sit down and play this without ever hearing of the first game, its a solid game with a good storyline. I can always play this game again and with more than one possible ending and multiple difficulties there is little chance I'll be bored.

I give this four stars, mainly because I think the lines could have been snappier, the people sometime off-character and there are quite a few angles later in the game that are very annoying to manuever around. Otherwise this a great game that is worth the nine bucks they sell it for. ... Read more

    Perfect Dark [color only]

    Editorial Review

The adventures of Joanna Dark, Nintendo's favorite superspy, have madethe jump from the Nintendo 64 to the Game Boy Color. Unfortunately, despitehaving some occasionally interesting gameplay and okay visuals, this PerfectDark is a huge misfire that disappoints on many levels.

Sneaking about and trying to take out the enemy is the secret agent's art andshould be fun in itself. Tragically, it becomes almost immediately apparent thatthe use of stealth here is less than an exact science. It's too hard to tellwhether or not the enemy can hear or see you. Combined with mushy controls andinaccurate targeting for the gunfights, what you have is a game that feelsunfinished and rushed. The action switches to a first-person view for targetpractice and for picking off enemies in sniper mode. These few-and-far-betweenmoments feel like they might've been "borrowed" from another game entirely.

The sound effects, for the most part, consist of the usual gun blasts andmortally wounded soldiers screaming "Medic!" and other cries of agony. There isquite a bit of speech in the between-level mission briefings. Unfortunately, theGame Boy speaker is so pitifully lame that nearly every sound is garbled anddevastatingly warped. Even Joanna's death moan is a comical, high-pitchedchirp.

Perfect Dark allows you to exchange data and unlocked maps with afriend's copy of the game via the Game Boy Color's infrared port. You can alsoengage in two-player deathmatches on special maps via the separately sold Game Link cable. The only problem is that while the maps are decently drawn and a human opponentis (hopefully) smarter than the Game Boy, the same control issues of solo playstill linger.

One redeeming quality of Perfect Dark for the GBC is its compatibilitywith the N64 Perfect Darkvia Nintendo's Transfer Pak,which supplies easy access to guns and other cheats. --Mark Brooks

    Pros:

    • Access to weapons and other cheats of Perfect Dark for the N64 viathe Transfer Pak
    • It's in color

    • Mushy controls and inaccurate firing

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good nowhere near a classic like the N64 one though.
This is a decent game but the Nintendo 64 version blows it completely out of the water.I mean I could really use a combat simulator to play when Im stuck in the main game but still there are some great action scenes. The graphics and sound are terrible though.I suggest you skip this one unless youre a die hard Perfect Dark fan.You should get Super Mario Deluxe instead at least that is more fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Its not the N64 game, but its still great.
It should be obvious that it's impossible to convert a console game to a handheld system. Despite this, Rare tried their hardest to continue the adventures of Joanna Dark and in my opinion, they suceeded. Though far from Perfect, Perfect Dark provides a lot of fun for those who are dedicated enough to learn how the game works. There's a substantial amount of depth to this game, and the multiplayer functions are better than any I've seen for a Game Boy Color game. Plus, its ability to unlock cheats in the N64 version is an added bonus to buying this game. The only problem of this game is the slightly awkward hit detection and play control system. That and the game is almost entirely in a limited third person view. Despite this, it is still a brilliant game that should not be passed up.

MY BIGGEST GRIPE WITH THIS GAME WAS THAT THEY KILLED OFF NATALIA KASTLE IN ISSUE 6 OF DANGER GIRL AND THEN BEFORE ISSUE 7 EVEN CAME OUT THEY INTRODUCE THIS CHICK J.C. I WISH YOU COULD HAVE PLAYED AS NATALIA. AFTERALL, SHE WAS A DANGER GIRL UP TO ISSUE 6.

1-0 out of 5 stars Frustrating, Plain Frustrating!
This entire game and gameplay is nearly worthless. The camera angles, control and character movement are all entirely awkward.Additionally, the game has only save points after you complete the level.Generally, that would be somewhat excusable as in Eidos' Fear Effect for its difficulty, but this game isn't even difficult per se: just that your characters are very clumsy and move like tanks. There are few things in this game that actually bring the game from receiving a negative (as in below 1 star and below 0 star rating).First, the cover art is absolutely spectacular and the art inside is absolutely great.Second, the soundtrack within the game is excellent.Lastly, the inclusion of the Danger Girls is great! However, do not buy this game for the gameplay! You will be disappointed and annoyed.Just buy it for the game manual for the art on top and within, and the beautiful CD design!

I only play this game when I have at the least, 2 hours.Since it's a pain to save the game I don't.It's easy until you hit the Phil's fastion and floor number 5.I took me 45 minuts to get there and 45 playing Phil's Fation and not winning.Thats why you need a while that you don't have to stop.I highly reccoment it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Cool !!!!
I purchased this software for my 5 year old who just loves the
rugrats - she never misses a show. Anyhow, when she first played with the cd she would not let me help her and she really loved it and i just sat there for a while with in case she needed help, but she she did not. The cd is fun, has cool music your child can create on their own, musical videos along w/ Angelica dancing to some cool and hip music, etc. Overall, I rated it a 4 because after a while ( about 4-6 weeks) my daughter wanted to play with other cds. I just thinkthey could have added some other activites.

Totally Angelica is fun but then there's the torment of fluffy's pinball game. Also there's that part of the game where you have to save the password. I never save my password because: 1. it's takes too long to type it back in, and 2. it's takes too long to write down! i liked picking out the fashions, playing the mini games, and getting the scores from the judges. but for people who get frustrated easily, DON'T SAVE YOUR PASSWORD! ... Forget the cat litter, all-hours dog walks, and outrageous vet bills; Barbie Pet Rescue features some of the most realistic, adorable animalswe've ever seen in a computer program--and without all the work involved inowning a real-live pet. Visit Barbie and her kid sister Stacey at the Pet RescueCenter, where you'll wait for rescue missions, explore in the playrooms, or tendto pets in the Care Center.

Rescue missions come in over the phone or via e-mail; after learning which petis missing where, travel with Barbie on her scooter to one of three differentenvironments in which to search for one of eight lost pets. In many missions, you'll have to use your wits to figure out how to entice scared animals to cometo you, or how to retrieve pets trapped in trees or other sticky situations. Ifyou get stuck yourself, Barbie's full of helpful hints to send you on the rightdirection. With each successful mission, you'll receive a printable Paw & PurrAward that hangs on the PRC wall.

Rescued pets come back to the Pet Rescue Center with you and Barbie to wait fortheir owners and receive a little TLC. Nurse them back to health in the Care Center, where you'll give recovered pets water, treats, vitamins--evenbaths and brushings; sometimes you may also need to bandage a hurt leg or pickburrs from ruffled fur. After creating a file for them in the computer andgiving them a name you select from a list of suggestions, the animals go to oneof two playrooms to wait for their owners.

In the meantime, you can play with them, plus all the other pets already in theplayroom--a kitten, bunny, hamster, puppy, and even a turtle--in what is perhapsthe best of the game's activities: petting! Select which animal you'd like topet, then use the cursor to stroke an animal's head or back, or perhaps scratchher under the chin. The animals respond to your attention as they might in reallife, by licking, rolling over, purring, or barking. It's the next-best thing toa romp in the park with a real-live kitten or beagle.

There is a related game for each kind of animal--Kitten Keepaway, Puppy Treat Toss, Hamster Trail, etc.--and if you do well enough, you'll see theanimal do something especially cute. A few of the games test kids' logic andspatial aptitude, but mostly they challenge players' mouse mastery and hand-eyecoordination; a speedy "click" finger yields frequent success.

Our only complaint: once players have completed all eight rescue missions andthe activities in the playrooms, there's not a lot more to do. It's always funto pet the animals, but it's not likely to hold kids' attention for frequentreplay. That said, this graphically rich program is a real treat for any animallover. We plan on keeping this game around for those moments when wereally wish we had a dog around. (Ages 5 and up) --Leah Ball ... Read more

i got this for my 9th bdayand i played it for long hours strait.now ido not play it as much.it gets boreing after A while. barbie says:all of her vital sounds are strng.oh, what a heathy girl. in a way iwish ythat they would get sick[it mightr be exiting]. the animals look really real.bye now.[see my other reviews][lots of reviews!] bye![again!]:)hoohoo!

4-0 out of 5 stars This Game is Pretty Good
This game is pretty good if you are under 10. I am almost 11 and I still sometimes play this game, but only because it involves animals.
It's annoying because other people can adopt your pets if you rescue one like it (i.e. you rescue a gray kitten, then rescue another, the first one gets adopted). You also don't get to keep the birds you find, which is not very fun.
When you rescue a bird, it gets taken to the Checkout Room (more about this room later) where Barbie checks it out and makes sure it's not sick or hurt. "Her vital signs are strong! What a healthy girl!" is what Barbie always says; it could be more exciting if once in awhile the pet was sick and you had to give it some special medicine (if you want to have a game like this, try another game called Vet Emergency, which is more advanced than this game). Then, as soon as you get into the Lobby Room, Stacie says "Barbie, while you were out one of our animals was adopted," a.k.a. the bird you just were with two seconds ago has already been taken home by its owner. How does this happen, I don't know.
Another funny thing is that you start out with a file on Barbie's laptop that says you rescued a Poodle named Emily or something. You never do; you can only rescue a few other breeds (more later).
In the Checkout Room, you can name the pet and give it a "special tag"--a bone, pawprint, heart, or star in blue, green, yellow, or pink. You can also feed it bones (which is funny for the turtles and bunnies you rescue!), give it a bath (or in the case of kittens, a grooming), and with some pets, like the cat, you can bandage her paw, or the bird, where you can give her an ID band on her foot (how does Barbie know so much about the bird? Real tags are supposed to have its name, owner, address, etc). You can give them a vitamin, but it's very realistic at this part because you can only feed them one vitamin a day. You can also give them water. You can't dry them off with the towels on the shelf, they only have to sort of shake themselves off. You can't check out a few of the animals, though.
There are two different Playrooms where, in the first one, are:
Stacie's hamster, Nutmeg (who I particularly think is ugly) and kind of acts annoying and a little cheeky sometimes, especially when it escapes into the Lobby Room (Stacie, take better care of your hamster!),
Your puppies (you can get either a tricolor Beagle, a Dalmatian, or a Golden Retriever, and the Dalmatian is my favorite). The puppies can also lie down in their baskets and sleep,
Your bunnies, a gray, brown, and white-and-black one, and Barbie's family of bunnies (who you play games with and they don't have names, or at least they don't tell you the name),
And in the second playroomare your kittens (a black tabby, an orange tabby who I like best, and a gray-and-white one)
Sage, a Golden Retreiver dog who is very sweet,
Your turtles--a green one, my favorite, a red one, and a gold-and-black one.
I think that all of these pets are cute, except for Stacie's hamster. When you pet the hamster (you can pick any animal to pet, and this part is very realistic), Stacie says, "Looks like you've made a friend!" No, I have not made any friends, at least with your hamster, Stacie!
Another thing is that Barbie carefully checks out all of these tame little bunnies who are playing at the park, but she doesn't check out this wild, stray dog who doesn't have a home and is racing around this farm chasing a chicken. What if the dog had rabies or something?
Anyway, the pets are very cute and sweet but if you want a game where you can actually care for pets, as in train them and feed them something other than treats, etc., try Petz 5 (I have reviewed this game, too).
Overall, this game is pretty fun. I'd say the age group is about 5 to 10. If you are within this age group (or you think that the game sounds fun), you should think about getting this game. (I got it when I was eight and I was sooooo excited when I got it!)
They could make this game a little better, but I think it's pretty much a good game.
You also rescue this "mystery animal" a.k.a. a monkey, who leaves clues all over the place, lets out the animals from their real homes, and lives at a circus. This is sort of silly but otherwise I like this game a lot.

4-0 out of 5 stars What A good Game
This game is great and I love all the games except the kitten keep away. But otherwise the game is the coolest and I am hoping to by one know and it would be so cool if you could send me one for free. Much love Britney. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Buffy is greater than ever!
This game is great! It has great moves and art, but the game is short and the comics could use a tad bit more work. Otherwise, this game is fantastic. I played it with my friend for only ten minutes when he was not interested in Buffy, but now he has 5 seasons on DVD! I guess this game really is magic! Buy it today! PS: It'll be worth every penny!

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Being a huge Buffy fan, I was rather excited when I found out about this game. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment.

On the plus side, the storyline is very Buffy-esque and the dialogue in the comic book style cutscenes fits the characters perfectly. Therefore, playing through the game and watching the story unfold is sort of like seeing an episode of the show play out..albeit through poorly drawn comic book pages.

Unfortunately, the game itself is quite bad. The backgrounds are about par for Gameboy, but the character graphics are rather blocky. The gameplay is repetitive and mind-numbingly simple. Here's how things play out: You walk a bit on the screen. A vampire shows up. You trip and/or hit said vampire so he/she falls down. Walk over to the vampire on the ground and stake him/her. Repeat one or two dozen times. Go to the next level. Start the process over again. Some vampires are a little more powerful or difficult, but the technique basically remains the same. The first (and only) time I played the game, I beat it without dying once. I think it took less than an hour.

Like I said, Buffy fans might still enjoy reading through the storyline, but don't expect much (if anything) from the gameplay, which offers maybe a few minutes of mindless fun before becoming tedious. I'd recommend a rental at most since, in all likelihood, it'll last about an hour and you'll never play it again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buffy is Awesome
Ok so I am a Buffy fan so I love this game. It's like one of those old martial arts games except it has a storyline. So basically you are watching a Buffy episode except your the one who is kicking butt. The game lets you know what buttons to push to do certain moves and it also gives you a password every time you complete a level, which is cool for me since I am constantly dying on the fourth level. I hope this helps you out and I hope you love it as much as I do! ... Read more

The slogan on the box says, "Powerpuff Girls are saving the world beforebedtime." Bad Mojo Jojo's repetitive gameplay, however, will put somegamers to sleep well before that time.

Based on the Cartoon Network series, this title spotlights Blossom, thepink-clad leader of the Powerpuff Girls. The dilemma facing the girls at the start ofthe game is that Mojo Jojo has kidnapped the girls' mentor, Professor Utonium.Blossom must battle Bratty Little Princess, Roach Coach, and eventually MojoJojo himself (hence the game's name) to save the brave professor.

The idea behind the game is to run or fly around the professor's home and lab, collecting all the goodies that the various robbers dropped in their hastyransacking of the place. The items consist of treasure, special graphic cards ofBlossom & Co., and health power-ups.

Some simple puzzle solving is required to finish this game, but that reallytakes second fiddle to honing one's exploration skills and reaction timing. Evenwithout reading the manual--and who does nowadays?--most will quickly figure outwhere they're going and what they've got to do.

If this series has a singular hook, it is that all three of the girls' games canbe linked though the GBC's vastly underutilized infrared port. Whatever iscollected in one cartridge can be sent over to another. In this way, players whowork together can more quickly gather all the cool collectibles in the game andget further ahead in less time. It's too bad the makers didn't spend a littlemore time putting a game together that was stylish to look at and engaging toplay. --Todd Mowatt

    • Some cool tech and marketing features

5-0 out of 5 stars Buttercup is my hero!!!
I like buttercup because everyday she has to beat up the scum into a living pulp! And i like the show when she doesn't take a bath because i don't like taking baths either! Buttercup and me are so alike that she must like eating fish eyeballs like me! Those taste like chalk but they are so good for you!! Hear that buttercup!!!...Oh wait! I forgot! This is the 1st awesomest game of the powerpuff girls and all three are really good!!! Buttercup should be the president of the whole world...

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Mojo Jojo, Indeed
I got this game for Christmas 2000 and was quickly disappointed. I don't demand great graphics from a GBC game, but this one's graphics aren't even marginally good. What's the point of playing a Powerpuff Girls game when the characters are barely even recognizable?

Gameplay stinks, too. The characters' attacks are monotonous, and the game consists entirely of exploring flat, side-scrolling locations and beating up bad guys. You're also supposed to pick up items along the way, but those are mostly pointless.

I'm a diehard Powerpuff fan, but I can't recommend this game. It's too bad -- the Powerpuff Girls are among the few GBC games that would have strong appeal to young girls, and the designers disrespect them with this crummy game.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not all that fun
This Powerpuff Girls game is not like the episodes. All you do is go around collecting girly stuff and the same thing. And you get lost in the Bonsai Garden level. And the people and the villains are so easy to beat all it takes is ten hits out of all the villians and 2 hits out the same ones you fight in every level. When i first heard of this game I thought it was going to be fun.But no this game is not very fun.And all three of the games on Gameboy color are all the same and the same levels in each one just different orders.I think this game is not very fun ... In the past, putting superstar athletes on the covers of gameshas met with mixed results, because money normally earmarked for gamedevelopment is often used to acquire a high-profile license.Thankfully, Mia Hamm Soccer 64 doesn't fall into this trap. Whatwe have here is a solid title that offers up plenty of in-your-facesoccer action with one of today's hottest athletes.

Mia has her own all-star team in the U.S. League portion of the game, and she offers gamers soccer advice from time to time. Her tips rangefrom the technical (such as curving the ball) to the strategic (exactlywhat kind of defensive formation you should be using when you are inthe lead).

Silicon Dreams and Digital Creations Studios developed Mia HammSoccer 64. They seem to have borrowed the look from Konami'sInternational Superstar Soccer and some of the touch passing andball physics from EA Sports' FIFA franchise.

The game has five different modes of play: quick start, exhibitiongame, season, cup tournament, and practice. In the practice mode, youcan shore up your throw-ins, corner kicks (which will allow you toperfect the header), or bicycle kick into the back of the net.

But the biggest gripe here is that the game's artificial intelligenceis not up to snuff. Of course, simply playing the game with friends canrectify this, but the fault can be frustrating for the single scorer. But then, just as in a real game of soccer, getting shots on goal andscoring can be challenging.

Mia Hamm Soccer 64 is a great starter game for female gamers whowant to see their idol and soccer fans who just want to plug it in andstart playing. --Todd Mowatt

    Pros:

    • Solid gameplay that doesn't rely on Mia Hamm's star appeal alone todeliver the goods
    • A great starter title for soccer fans and girl gamers looking for asports role model
    Cons:

    • Suspect artificial intelligence
    • Some graphical slowdown when many players are in the frame at onetime

2-0 out of 5 stars Excellent concept, but a failed project
I am an avid supporter of female athletes. That is why I decided to give Mia Hamm Soccer 64 a try. Unfortunately, unlike Mia Hamm, this game falls very short in execution: the controls are stiff, the announcer (with all due respect to Wendy) is too repetative, the graphics have a very low polygon count, and every athlete looks the same except for skin color. I admire South Peak Interactive for making what is apparently the second sports video game to star a woman (the first is Jennifer Capriatti Tennis for Sega Genesis), but they should have done more to make this game fun to play. Here's hoping they try again, but this time REALLY TRY.

3-0 out of 5 stars Needs some adjustment
There are somethings that are hard to figure out when playing multi-players on the basic level: 1.On a goal kick because of the score bar at the bottom of the page, it is hard to tell which player has control of the goalie to take the kick. 2.Can't switch between players very easily. 3.If a yellow or red card is given, you can't tell which card is given. 4.If a player has a card, you can't tell which player it is, if you want to sub them off. If anyone knows how to fix this stuff or work around it, let me know.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Game Kicks
This game makes women's soccer better than ever before. This game has great graphics. It's not some dumb game where you preset the plays and basically watch the whole time.It is also good because you can set the controller on one of two levels:regular and pro.You can change the time of day, the weather, the climate, and the stadium you are playing at.There is a HUGE selection of teams, too.It gets all five stars in my book! ... Editorial Review

A first-person shooter that mixes spy and sci-fi, PerfectDark is both a thoroughly engrossing one-player experience and ariotously fun multiplayer romp. Easily one of the best games of itsgenre on any video game console, this long-awaited follow-up toGoldenEye 007 is a must-have for Nintendo 64 owners--and a damngood reason to be one if you're not.

The futuristic Perfect Dark casts players as Joanna Dark, asecret agent who becomes embroiled in a sinister conspiracy involvingaliens and an evil corporation. Gameplay is broken down into missions, each with objectives that must be unerringly completed beforeprogressing to the next mission. This is not your typical kill-anything-that-movesgame: putting a bullet in the wrong person, not keeping theright one alive, or perforating a seemingly unimportant inanimate objectcan often result in mission failure.

While Perfect Dark's solo missions play out much like those inGoldenEye 007, the game's fantastic multiplayer options areanother matter entirely. Cooperative and counteroperative simultaneous-playmodes allow for another player to join in on a mission as,respectively, a teammate or the enemy. However, the real fun here is inthe highly customizable Combat Simulator, a one-to-four-playersimultaneous-play mode that features both free-for-alls and team-basedchallenges and can include up to eight Simulants, computer-controlledcombatants of varying behavior.

Although Simulants make for decent adversaries or teammates, you'll wantto grab a friend--and an Expansion Pak, as only 35 percent of the gameis available without one--to fully enjoy Perfect Dark. --JoeHon

    Pros:

    • One of the best first-person shooters on any video game console
    • Outstanding multiplayer game with huge replay value
    • Bevy of game options, cheats, and secret features
    • Excellent training mode with challenges all of its own

    5-0 out of 5 stars Outstandingly perfect...Almost...
With a game made by the same developers as Goldeneye 007 for N64, it is nearly impossible to go wrong. Perfect Dark does not disappoint. In fact, I am going to go out on a limb and say that Perfect Dark is better than Goldeneye, here is why...

Graphics- 10/10 Goldeneye set the bar when it was released, and Perfect Dark surpasses it, beautifly. Although the graphics are very similar in nature, everything is much clearer and smooth looking. The guns look much more realistic, and the special effects are upgraded. It isn't a dramatic difference, but Goldeneye had graphics far ahead of its time to begin with, and this game still satisfies. In fact it does much more than satisfy.

Sound/Music- 10/10 The music, also, is quite similar to Goldeneye. It has the same unique sound to it, and every track suits the level. The music in Perfect Dark has much more of a techno-esque sound, though. The music in Goldeneye set the mood quite well, and so does Perfect Darks, except now it is much more noticeable and louder. The sound effects are great (especially the reaper), and the guns sound realistic. There are some voice-over moments that are laughable, but that's about it.

Controls- 10/10 The amazing control scheme that made Goldeneye so great has made a flawless return. You use the R button to aim and the control stick to move the cursor around, and it's easier since your screen doesn't always move with the cursor, a flaw that ruined every PS2 shooter for me. I absolutely despise the double control stick aiming scheme used in Halo and Killzone (The games weren't that wonderful to begin with, though, especially Halo, avoid that one at all costs). Anyway, no complaints here either. So far so perfect...

Stroyline/Gameplay- 8/10 If I were to complain about anything, this would have to be it, but only on a minor level. The gameplay is flawless and retains that Goldeneye feeling...but the story...well I wish I could say the same. While definitely not a bad storyline, it isn't at all memorable. Basically, it is the generic " Aliens are attacking and we must destroy their base" ruitine. During the first half of the game the storyline is well- executed, but the horror begins later on. Basically you meet up with a cute little alien named Elvis later on,and discover some interesting things. The first half are spy missions similar to Goldeneye, just more featuristic. But later on, it turns into a Halo-deal, something I wasn't looking forward to. Actually, when I played this game when it first came out, I hated the solo missions, but loved the multiplayer. After playing through the game again, I can say that the solo missions are indeed very fun, but I never found myself getting attached to them or wanting to finish the game on the Perfect Agent difficulty setting. Overall, the solo missions aren't the masterpiece that was Goldeneye, but given the fact that the gameplay is the same as Goldeneye's, it still manages to be fun.

Multiplayer- 100/10 The multiplayer is so good in this game that I decided to give it its own category. Unlike Goldeneye where you had to pick a weapon scheme, this game lets you custon design the weapons selection. Theres a whole array of Sims, too, and you can put up to 8 on at once. The nostalgia of this games multiplayer is just amazing and hard to fathom, very difficult. You can also choose from a whole plethora of Sim types, venge sim, turtle sim (They get a barrier for a long while, but they movem extremely slow, making for hilarious moments.) Difficulty settings for sims are Meat, Easy, Normal, hard, perfect, and dark. Dark sims basically can do maneuvers that humans cannot, kinda like robo-bots or something of that sort. Add 3 friends, yourself, and 8 Sims to the mix, including teams, colors, and a whole array or multiplayer schemes (king of the hill, license to kill etc) and you are setting yourself up for a indefinite blast. I can't even begin to explain how fun this is, you just have to experience it for yourself. I have played Killzone and other new-age shooters and can still say PD surpasses them to extraordinary lengths. Also, lest we forget the challenges. The challenges are extremely fun missions where you have to accomplish a certain deed, and if completed you unlock new stages, weapons, and sims for Multiplayer. You can also play the challenges with up to 3 other people, but the difficulty level goes sky high.

Multiplayer stages- 7/10 I wish Rare would have designed more Goldeneye-esque multiplayer stages. Most of the new stages are rather generic and not very innovative. There are a few great ones (sewers, ravine, and some others whose names I forget), but overall the stages have a rather dull and uninspired look. Don't fear, however, because the Goldeneye favorites are back. Facility (how called faculty or some other odd name) returns as basically a ported but slightly upgraded version of the goldeneye level. Another favorite, Complex is back, and the same can be said about Complex, basically a ported version. Temple also returns, although unfortunately I am not a fan of this multiplayer stage.

Overall- 10/10 Solo missions asside, Perfect Dark is arguably the best first person shooter ever made. The multiplayer is worth it alone, and for a petty 4 or 5 bucks, you cannot pass this game up. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars In soccer You don't score 8-0
No matter what level of difficulty I put it on the game is way to easy. All you have to do is take a shot from the slightest angle and then the goalie will fly way left or right of the ball. It automatically goes in. NO FUN.

4-0 out of 5 stars fun
I am a huge soccer fan, and this is a great game. Yet I give it a four because at first, I thought it was a little difficult to understand how to work it but once i got the hang of it i couldn't put it down. They should make more soccer games for game -boys by the way i'm a girl.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good!
I thought this game was reasonable. A was always caught playing with my atomic purple game boy late into the night. What I liked best about this game was it was realistic and always challenging I recommend other soccer games (Fifa 1999, Mls Shootout I think). This game deserves a sequel and a playstation or nintendo game buy this game it is worth the money. ... Read more
