    Editorial Review

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time may be the greatest single-player video game ever created in any genre. It's that good. Those new to Nintendo's enormously popular Zelda series will be glad to know this game stands completely on its own. Our hero, Link, starts the game as a young boy living in a magical forest village populated by elf-like children. But there is evil lurking in the world. Strange monsters are appearing, and the land is changing. It's up to Link to discover why, defeat the monsters, and stop the evil at its source.

The game world's ever-changing environment looks like a fairy tale come to life. Majestic waterfalls, towering castles, and magical forests are a feast for the eyes and ears. Rivers flow, rain falls, the sun and moon rise and set. There's even an erupting volcano! Exploring this world is half the fun of the game. Along the way, you learn musical tunes that you can play on the flute-like Ocarina, a magical device that helps you teleport, alter the weather, even control time itself.

Character interaction is important to gather clues. The fairy princesses, singing frogs, and dragons you'll meet can be cute, humorous, or somewhat terrifying. Sprinkled liberally throughout the game are hundreds of secret treasures and enjoyable minigames (one of which, the fishing game, would almost be worth buying by itself). Game controls are easy to learn. There's even an elaborate fight training course built right into the game. Controlling the hero quickly becomes instinctive, and you can concentrate on saving the world. To win the game, you'll have to use not only Link's sword, but your mind as well. This game's challenging and inventive puzzles really make you think. In fact, to keep from getting stuck, it's worth spending a few bucks on an official player's guide. With The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Nintendo has come up with an all-consuming adventure title that will provide days of engrossing gameplay. --Eric Fredrickson

5-0 out of 5 stars What a revolutionary LoZ game
The most recent LoZ games, in my opinion, have all been fairly average.Wind Waker was the latest actually good LoZ game. But of all the LoZ games, OoT is just plain incredible.

In this game, you play as Link as he grows from a child into a young man while on his quest to defeat Ganon and save the world from ultimate, evil rule.Along the way, you meet many friends and face amazing boss battles.

The graphics (at the time) were just incredible. It really made me enjoy looking at and playing the game.Nintendo really did a great job in this department.

The gameplay is like no other. One of the few incredible games to utilize the C Buttons for vital controls, this game felt really comfortable to play, and there's tons to do in the game besides just beating it.Also, throughout the game, you are forced to travel back and forth through time and play as Young or Adult Link to complete the game, which is awe-inspiring in my opinion.Sadly, after doing little everything, there's no addictive mini-games to really play and not much else to do, but go through the game again and again.

The sound is incredible, and the music has never been better.I found myself turning the volume on the TV all the way up while playing this game, because the sound was that good!

If you're an avid gamer, yet you've never played this game, then something's really wrong with you.Pick this game up and play it 'till your fingers fall off (which I guarantee you'll do). This game is worth buying and owning for as long as you even are alive.

5-0 out of 5 stars An epic classic! Still the greatest game to roam the Earth!!
A long time ago... in the unevolved time of 1985, a video game company emerged on the scene, known as Nintendo... And from a classic platform (genre) named Mario came a new series: The Legend of Zelda....

I love this game so much, I have to play almost all the time. This is THE greatest game to walk the planet. Or roam. Or kill the other video games. Any are true. This classic is the first 3D legend of zelda, and is still an amazing game to date.

Well, if it's such a great game, why's it so good? What makes it good? Here's a fork in the road where opinions split into multiple directions, but personally, I think the freedom of galloping on horseback on a wide, open, orange-green field, courtesy of the setting sun. This is just awesome for me. I never understood the game when I was young, but now I know all the characters, and all the dungeons. Or the whole game. Whatever. Off topic.

Another great thing is the ever-changing environment. In the night, things get noticably unsafer than in the day, just like reality. The gate to the town closes so you have to battle these skull things that rise up out of the ground. The sun sets and rises every few minutes, (which is kinda scary, in 5 minutes it becomes night), and the moon appears when it's nighttime.

Now the BESTEST thing is the interactiveness, and more importantly, the side quests. The Oot is an eploring RPG, so you don't HAVE to do what the plot tells you to do. There are TONS of mini-games to do. One, you can go fishing. Yes, you heard me correctly, F-I-S-H-I-N-G. How cool is that? There's also archery shootouts, on-horseback shootouts, and even a treasure chest game.

There are tons of things you can do in this game. One nice thing is that the game jumps for you, so it's easier to do things. You can swim and ride on a horse. Oh yes, and dive.

The plot is swirling and amazing, truly spectacular. This is THE best storyline I've ever seen in a videogame besides the Windwaker, which is as good, if not better than the Oot, but I'm preferable to the Majora's Mask. I'm not gonna tell you the story, so I don't spoil the excitement of learning what you have to do.

ALL IN ALL, I think the Oot is a must-have game for any N64 or Gamecube owner. It's the revolutionary classic. Once you play the game, that's when you'll realize. If you realize it's the greatest game you've ever played, rock on. If you think it sucks, go to hell.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why can't there be more games like this one!?!
This is the best game I have ever played. It has very good music, grapics, and the story is great!I really love this game, but the only really big problem with this game is that it has this one(long and boring)temple that is very hard, and(please)don't take this game lightly, the bosses are hard, but the story is so good that you will want to play this game again and again! But the other Zelda games are lame!So only (if you want to)buy this game and maybe 'the legend Zelda A link to the past'. PROS:the story is great,It's a fun game, and the great fairys(Fairys that will power you up and give you new weapons) are easy to find.CONS:switching around the camera is a little bit hard, and finding the goldskull tokens(gold coin like tokens that you win from beating spider monsters)is easy at the beginning of the game but hard at the end. This is a great game,so I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy games,I would also recommend'final fantasyI&II dawn of souls'and'The legend of zelda:the wind waker'. ... It's hard to articulate how incredible this game is.Every aspect of the game -- the story line, the characters, the sound effects, the music -- they all add up to an incredible masterpiece of video gaming.I've had hours of entertainment with this game, and I still get cravings to play it, even though it's over ten years old.Wow...I really can't say enough about it..it has to be experienced.Of course, you have to remember when the game was made in order to truly appreciate.Of course, if you're reading this review, you probably already know and love The Legend of Zelda.Let's all sit back for a moment, close our eyes, and reminisce.Ahhh, what a great game.We were truly a blessed generation, growing up with the Super Nintendo.

5-0 out of 5 stars The First RPG
This is the game that started it all! Before this game, after you beat a game, you had done everything you could do. In this game however, you could spend hours exploring Hyrule. Also, games didn't have much of a story behind them.
After that piece of history, I'll start talking about the game. The game seems simple by today's standards, but it's still fun to play. Also, it's very short. (There are only 8 dungeons, and each dungeon except for the last one are only about four steps in my guide.) People will also find the music annoying. But don't forget, it's only an NES game.
I love the whole Zelda series. I hope they keep making more.

5-0 out of 5 stars live The Legend Of Zelda
I've grown up with an nes even though im 12. My dad used to play this an super mario brothers all the time and so did i later on. Although i never got to beating this game (got bored after beating level 5), its still very fun to play. The only thing i hated about the game was not the challenge, but when you almost die and your life meter beeping like hell. This is my most favorite zelda game because its the only one where it really doesnt tell you where to go next. What i mean by this is after you beat a temple, someone or something doesnt say anything on the next location but dont worry, each temple you enter says what level it is so you know if your supposed to beat it or not *ex: i beat level 1 an 2 but then i find level 6. I turn back because i never beat level 4 an 5 to aquire the certain items in those temples in order to get past level 6*. There are also caves containing townsfolk where you buy valuable items, information, or free info and tasks. Now, thats just the underworld part, the overworld is a huge map with areas like forests, mountains and such with monsters, caves, temples (levels), and secrets all over the land and like i said, i like this zelda game the most because you always got to figure out where to go next which can take longer than you think if you dont use and guides or FAQS. And thats more than half of the game; wandering in circles, solving mysteries to get to the next location, searching for upgraded items such as swords or boomerangs, finding temples, caves, defeating bosses in temples with each boss having its own stragety where you need to figure out its weakness by using countless items on it. Then after you beat the 8 temples and collect the 8 triforce pieces, you can finally enter ganons lair and save the princess Zelda in this fantasy adventure of endless fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Zelda game of all time mainly cause its the easiest
The other Zelda games are fun but they arent for everyone. They can be very frustrating. Not this game though. Its the best. The light worlds and underworlds are all very well done and the graphics are still the best from the 8 bit Nintendo era. Link is the ultimate hero and I recommend this game because its not to easy and not too hard.A must have for a Zelda fan. ... Read more

    Starsiege Tribes (Jewel Case)
Average Customer Review: 4.5 out of 5 stars
    CD-ROM

US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

Revolutionizing the online first-person shooter genre with a seamless indoor/outdoor game engine, Starsiege Tribes backs up its snazzy technology with sophisticated online-only gameplay. Tribes is the perfect game for action fans looking for something more cerebral than Quake but less complicated than Rogue Spear.

Players are able to customize their high-tech warrior to suit individual play styles: snipers will go with light armor, extra battery pack, and a laser rifle; fans of less-subtle tactics will grab heavy armor, a mortar, plasma gun, and shield pack to create a walking tank. This level of customization adds an unusual amount of depth for a game in the first-person shooter genre, and it's fun to mix up gear choices in order to react to battlefield conditions.

And oh, what a beautiful battlefield it is. Players begin the game within their home base, but once free of those crowded halls, a limitless vista greets the eyes. Rolling hills, snow-covered peaks, and eerie moonscapes provide a stunning backdrop to the action as players zoom around with jetpacks. Outposts, towers, and weapon emplacements provide strategic objectives and sniping platforms; hovercraft and personnel carriers allow quick transport and airborne assaults.

Blasting your way across the world of Tribes is fun, but it's not the only gameplay option. Less action-oriented gamers can assume the role of Commander and issue orders to teammates. The Commander is especially useful during matches that require intricate teamwork, such as capture the flag, capture and hold, and defend and destroy. --Mike Fehlauer

    Pros:

    • Can pick weapons and equipment to suit mood and play style
    • Visually impressive game engine
    • Jetpacks

    • Poor tutorial

Tribes is the best game ever made on the face of the earth. This is THAT game. Miss the golden age of gaming? Tribes came out at the same time as Half-Life, and many people overlooked the game that could have brung it about a second time. It's a bit too late now, unfortunately. The community is pretty much gone. Unfortunately, many of the people that play it now are rather childish and 'elitist', which may detract from the experience unless you have a group you can play it with. Approach this game at your own risk. It's the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST GAME ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH
Starsiege Tribes is (by a Hiroshima) the best game on our planet. There is so much, I repeat, SO MUCH to do in the tribes universe. One problem with the game that is a problem but once you play you'll forget: NO single player. The multiplayer is SO good that this game should be called BUBBA and Halo and all those other[...] games should be renamed BUBBA'S[...]. For $10 or less, you cannot beat this. Get it. Absorb it. Die a happy gamer. You will not regret it my friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Game Ever
Tribes is the best game of all time, of any genre, in any human culture in the history of the Earth.

If Tribes had a downside, it would be that the player, when in the Tribes universe, no longer is affected by the normal rules of Time that we all know and are normally governed by. The side effects of this include Agelessness (and the consequences thereof) and, after prolonged exposure, inability to percieve time correctly when not in the Tribes universe (sped up/slowed down perception of time, as well as, in extreme cases, 'slippage', the inability to maintain a fixed path through the flow of time). Also Tribes simulates a mild euphoria that tends to keep the Tribes player in the Tribes universe indefinitely. If properly supervised, the Tribes player can be brought back out of the Tribes universe at regular intervals, but it must be a slow transition to avoid permanent damage. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Long recognized as role-playing games par excellence, the FinalFantasy series gets a technological makeover in this installment (and seriesdebut on the PlayStation). Shedding the two-dimensional graphics and limitedsound capabilities of its predecessors, Final Fantasy VII features lush3-D graphics, beautifully animated "movie" sequences, and soundtrack-qualitymusic. Coupled with the game's intricate storyline, endearing characters, andimmense yet highly imaginative world, these new advancements make for a quite anengrossing experience.

The story of Final Fantasy VII centers around a solider named CloudStrife, who joins forces with Avalanche, a group of resistance fighters, to takedown an evil mega-corporation known as Shinra. (The fate of the world hangs inthe balance, of course.) Truly epic in scope, this four-disc game requires aconsiderable amount of time to complete---this reviewer gladly gave up over 80hours of his life to finish it. But it's definitely a rewarding adventure thatevery PlayStation owner should consider undertaking, especially since it's nowone of the low-priced "Greatest Hits" titles. --Joe Hon

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as top notch as the other FF's!
To sum things up, FF VII is a good game, but I find it is overrated. When it was released in the late 1990's it set the standard for graphics not only for RPG's, but for all video games from there on out.But in terms of the game itself, it leaves some things to be desired.

The characters for example, were not as well developed as they should have been. The lead character, Cloud, got about 80% of the character development, while the others only small bits are known about them. But I will say that each character does have his or her own unique personality so this area may not bother players too much.

The music in FF VII unfortunately, was horrible in my opinion.Especially when compared to other Square titles such as Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, and even Final Fantasy IV (which is well over 10 years old). The battle music was good, but the rest was flat and uncreative, especially the music on the world map. Those of us who are familliar with the work of Square had expected much better in this department.

The game play was good. The materia system was a nice touch that added variety to the basic magic-using RPG.Basically, every character in the game can use spells, but they have to equip a materia onto their armor or weapon, and gain points through battles to learn each spell the materia has to offer. The only downside is that once the materia has been unequiped, the spell(s) go with it.But nonetheless, the materia system had breathed new life into the RPG world of magic-using.

You also have side quests, secret/hidden items and weapons, and secret characters just like most RPG's.The graphics are good, although the characters look very polygonized in their smaller forms. The CG scenes are beautiful. This is one area Square always dominates. They did a great job with those in FF VII.

It saddens me to give this game only 3 out of 5, but I must be honest.I love RPG's, especially the classics from Square, but I just don't think that FF VII deserves to be up there with CT, FF IV, and FF VI.Even the ending of FF VII was disappointing, because they did no follow-up on the characters. It's a good game overall, but it had the potential to be great.

Final Fantasy VI (III in the US) is considered by many to be the best RPG ever made. It is a very deep game, and will provide countless hours of fun. It is one of my personal favorites in the RPG genre. I highly recommend this game, and it is worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ultima of Final Fantasy.......
Before i begin, I would like to say that this is by far the greatest game i have ever come across (and i have come across metroid, mega man, and chrono trigger). this game never gets old (unlike the new final fantasys), and produces maximum fun to the gamer (unlike the new final fantasys). another victory for squaresoft.

    Onward to the review....

    STORY 10/10

I have never given a game a 10 out of 10, but this game deserves it. this game circles around the magic Espers, creatures that contain large amounts of magic and power. An evil being named Kefka seeks after these espers, and drains power out of them until they are obselete. a small rebel resistence force battles against him in a long battle which later on becomes a battle for the human race's survival

    CHARACTERS 8/10

The characters were not that bad, but there were some that were terrible. that is okay, as you rarely ever have to play with them. i am judging the characters by not only their usefulness in battle, but their personality also

TERRA BRANFORD-7.5/10- an interesting character who sulks a bit much, but DEFINATELY not as annoying as selphie from FF8. an early magic user, and can transform into an esper

LOCKE COLE-9/10- a sly theif who is dedicated to his promises. can steal items from enemies during battles

EDGAR RONI FIGARO-9/10- a ruler of figaro castle(...). uses useful tools in battles

SABIN RENE FIGARO-10/10- super cool, super funny bodybuilder, who uses strong "Blitz" attacks during battles

SHADOW-8/10- your uncommon loner ninja with quite a past who will "slit his momma's throat for a nickel". he can throw swords and items during battle.

CELES CHERE-9.5/10- she is pretty cool, and really useful during battle, as she can absorb magic

CYAN GARAMONDE-8/10- a persistant devious character. during battle, he can use certain sword techniques, some proving rather powerful

GAU-4/10- a useless character who acts like my 7 year old brother. he can permanently copy and use enemy moves (once again like my brother :)

SETZER GABBIANI-9/10- a sly gambler who has a ratherinteresting personality. he can perform a "slot" move during battle

STAGO MAGUS-3/10- another worthless character who is extremely weak even in his "lores" which he can use in battle

RELM ARROWNY-5/10- an annoying little girl who wants her way with everything. can "sketch" and "control" enemies in battle

GOGO-7/10- This person has no personality and says nothing during the entire game. He copies off of ANYONE during battle

MOG-6/10- interesting character, but not annoying like the moogles in FFIX. can "dance" during battle

UMARO-8/10- one word monster who is quite strong, and good for battle. He has no special move for battle

    GAMEPLAY 10/10

this is where the game gets its highest scores. The non-stop fun of playing continues on from beginning to end (except for the squid ultros, i thought that was tedious). your party consists of four characters, each being different in battle, and you battle enemies that are not insanely hard, but not easy, and still producing fun to the gamer. the summons, while not proving that much use at all, dont take the usual full minute watching stupid animations such as the later final fantasys.

    GRAPHICS 9/10

for a super nintendo these graphics are superior. compared to final fantasy 2 these graphics are superior. not much else is to be said here

    MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS 10/10

I am in love with the battle theme song for this game. not only is it extremely catchy, but it is very memorable. the boss music isnt that great, but dont get me wrong, its memorable. In my opinion however, i think that squaresoft should have taken the boss theme music from final fantasy 2 and beefed it up, as final fantasy 2 has the BEST boss theme music.

For sounds, they are phenominal. they have different types of sounds for different swords, whips, ninja stars, throwing darts, and more. when you block an attack with your sword, it really sounds like two swords are being crossed. when you block with a shield, it really doesnt sound like it, but it makes a nice noise nonetheless.

    REPLAY VALUE 10/10

I have had this game since i was 6, and I have beaten this game time and time again and yet i still want to play it. i have never played final fantasy anthology, but it sounds real nice so im gonna get it. my thoughts tell me that the super nintendo version is the way to go however

A little emotional something as i leave....

the first time i ever beat this game, which was a long long time ago, i encountered a feeling that made me feel rather sad but blissful, sad because there is no more to play of this game, blissful because the storyline and ending gave me the feel of true fantasy. after beating this game time and time again, i bought final fantasy 2. when i beat it, i did not get that same feeling even though it was a great game. after that i bought final fantasy 7, and i barely got any feeling at all. after purchasing and beating final fantasy 8, i felt extremely happy to beat and be rid of that crappy game. now i am working on 9, hoping to beat it and get that same feeling again, which i probably will not get, because final fantasy 3 is a ONE OF A KIND game ... Editorial Review

SquareSoft has always had a sure-fire hit when releasing any of their Final Fantasy titles, and Final Fantasy VIII should be no exception. The basis of a good RPG (role-playing game) has always been the story; spectacular graphics are secondary. Final Fantasy VIII's involved and interesting story line is filled with great twists, well-developed characters, suspense, and romance. As an added bonus, the graphics are beautiful. Everything--from the low-lit jazz club to the steam-filled railroad tunnels--is gorgeous and perfectly sets the mood and tone of a scene.

The game mechanics are standard fare for an RPG: acquisition of items and spells, turn-based combat, experience points earned in combat allowing advances in levels. From exploration to battles to dialogue, Final Fantasy VIII has it all. However, Final Fantasy VIII falls to that great weakness of RPGs: random battles. While necessary for advancing in levels, the battles occur with such frequency that they can grow annoying, making for a tedious game experience.

The epic storyline spans four discs--over 40 hours of gameplay--and is based around a mercenary cadet who finds himself caught up with an underground rebel faction. He winds up in a plot to assassinate the sorceress who has just seized power from the president.

You could complain of limited replay value, but this gripe is of no consequence: the game is such a satisfying experience, it doesn't require replay. Final Fantasy VIII is easily worth both the hype and the wait. You can't buy a much better game. --John Cocking

    Pros:

    • A story to beat all stories
    • Characters worth caring about
    • Hey--it's from SquareSoft
    • Stunning animations
    Cons:
    • Too many random battles
    • Combat is, as always, turn-based and offers minimal excitement
    • Weak souls might give up after two or three discs of play

4-0 out of 5 stars To final fantasy players.
Before I got this game I was playing Final Fantasy 7 and was use to it.When I got this game it stunned me with how many battles you have to fight, but that's ok becuase it keeps you busy.At first I did not like it, but as the game progressed I ended up getting hooked on it.All I can say is that if you do not like role playing games you should not buy them, but if you are into role playing and a Final Fantasy fan this game is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why does everyone hate this game?!!?!?
Ok. In 1999, this game was releaed. Many people were like, "OMG! thiS gam3 suck comp@ too vee eye eye!!" But I loved it. It's not as good as VII, but only by a hair.

Gameplay:10/10: A new RPG where you are in the military SeeD. You have many summons called GF's. It's a long game, about 45 hours. Lots of sidequests, too.

Ok, many have complaints aboutthe Junction system. "It's too complicated! Wahhhh!" Well, READ THE GODDAMN TUTORIAL!!!! *Is glad to get that out of my system.

Graphics:10/10: For the time, they are excellent. The FMV's kick ass!

Music:10/10: Another high point. You might be humming the great tunes!

Story:9.5/10: OK, there is a lot of bashing with it. Personally, I liked Squall and others because they act realistic. Plus, lots of plot twists.

Overall, a great game overlooked by many. So relax, and quit complaing, guys!

2-0 out of 5 stars Terribly lame in content ...
My reviews contains spoilers. That being said, you should read it anyway.

    Graphics: A+
It was pretty. Possibly brought out the PS's greatest potential.

    Gamplay:B-
Wasn't terrible, but wasn't a lot of fun either.

    Mini-games:A
FFVIII has a very fun card game you can opt to play.It was my favorite part of the game.

    Story:F
A ridiculous love-story mixed with pubescent amnesiac orphan-soldiers fated to destroy a witch repeatedly due to a time-loop.Try to imagine all of the most horrendous story cliches thrown together. If you can't, FFVIII would be an enlightening though torturous experience for you.

    The Characters:F-
Only the lead character has any amount of depth, but it never turns out to be more than: "At first I was a lonely brooder. But now that I opened my heart to friends and love, I have the strength to fight!!"Everyone else receives no true development what-so-ever.Most of them have practically identical pasts(amnesiac orphans). They're all teenage soldiers, much like the cast of power rangers. They all have distinct cookie-cutter personalities, much like the cast of power rangers. And these uninspired piles of cliche-excrement that saves the world routinely, much like the cast of power rangers.
The only explanation I could think of for this terrible, un-dynamic cast is that Square wanted to appeal to younger gamers by making a game about a soap opera about pretty high schoolers that have no parents and kick butt.

Anyway. With so few redeeming qualities, don't subject yourself to it.To be honest, I *liked* this game when it first came out.But I was also 13 at the time.Replaying it with more mature tastes, I've realized the content was terrible. There's no better way of describing it then: It's *stupid.* ... Editorial Review

Just when it seems 3-D fighting games have permanently made 2-D fightinggames obsolete, something like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 comes along and provesjust how deep and fun 2-D fighters can be. It's better than its predecessor inevery way, and arguably the best 2-D fighting game to grace the Dreamcast.

The amount of playable characters is enough to put any fighting fan's salivaryglands in overdrive. Beginning with favorites such as Spider Man, Wolverine,Ryu, and Chun Li, players can eventually unlock 56 characters. We had our handsfull just mastering a few of these fighters, and getting familiar with all 56would take months of intense practice. There are almost too many moves, alldepicted with superb animation and augmented by several tag-team combos. Whenthe match begins, you can pick three characters. Once things heat up, you cancall in your pals to unleash a massive move on your opponent. This addsimmensely to the game's depth, and button mashers will be in for a shock whenthey find that their mistimed tag-team moves backfire.

Visually, this game is intense. The large characters are slightly jagged aroundthe edges, but that's more than compensated for by the massive amount ofanimation frames, colorful special effects, and stunning 3-D backgrounds thatare loaded with detail. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 also delivers a sonicperformance that is nearly arcade-perfect. This is a must-buy for any fightingfan, especially those who have a couple of buddies to bash. Just be prepared toput in a lot of time in practice mode if you want to get good. --T. ByrlBaker

    Pros:

    • Brilliant 3-D backgrounds
    • A massive number of characters to play as
    • Tag-team element adds a fun strategic component to the gameplay
    Cons:
    • Characters were drawn at low resolution

5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate fighting game - period
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 - New Age Of Heroes (2000.) The fourth game in the "Marvel characters versus Capcom characters" series.

Over the years, there have been a ton of fighting games, but as the years progressed, it became evident that one company was the supreme mastermind of the genre - Capcom. When they released Street Fighter II in 1991, it revolutionized fighting games and was frequently ripped off. Capcom used the excellent mechanics behind that ever-so-successful series to launch spin-offs like Street Fighter Alpha, as well as other fighting series, including Darkstalkers. The corporation even made a fighting game featuring Marvel comics characters which was well-received. And then, Capcom did one of the smartest things of their entire career - put Marvel and Capcom characters together in the same fighting game! This started with the classic X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, which was followed up my Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter, which greatly expanded the Marvel roster. And then came Marvel Vs. Capcom, which greatly expanded the number of Capcom characters available. The fourth game in this Marvel and Capcom series, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 - New Age Of Heroes, arrived in 2000. Read on for my review (and sorry about the long introduction.)

We'll start off with what this game does good. The absolute best part of this game is the sheer magnitude of characters you can play as. Once they're all unlocked, you'll have over fifty characters! And you've got the all-stars from both universes. Capcom serves up classic Street Fighter characters like Ryu and Ken, along with Darkstalkers favorites Felicia and Morrigan, and even Mega Man! Capcom's got a ton of their most popular characters too, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and pretty much all of the X-Men. The game even features new characters from both franchises. Unlike the first Marvel Vs. Capcom, which played pretty crappy with console controllers, this time around the scheme was done AROUND the controller, so it plays WAY better than its predecessor. The 128-bit backgrounds look GREAT. The soundtrack's catchy, too, even if some beg to differ. The system used for unlocking characters/stages/outfits/etc. is also well-done. You earn points every time you play, and these can be used to buy the bonus features. For the most part, the game takes everything from the original Marvel Vs. Capcom, and improves it. There is very little wrong with this game. If you liked the original, you're probably going to like this one even more.

As much as I like this game, I do have a few complaints. The one that seems to get the most attention is the characters being drawn at a low resolution. Why did Capcom do this? The backgrounds are simply stunning, so I really think a little more work could have gone into the character models. Likewise, too many characters have been altered too much - Chun Li, Sakura, and M. Bison have been altered so much that they aren't even fun to play as. Likewise, many of the characters are just weak when compared to others - Roll is just pathetic and essentially comes off seeming like a "poor man's version of Mega Man." The new characters were unnecessary. Though cool, their omission would have allowed for other great Marvel and Capcom characters to be in the game - I'm sure plenty of other gamers would have liked to have been able to play as Daredevil, Dr. Octopus, The Punisher, Bass, and Proto Man. My biggest complaint is that the game is no longer in production - they don't make Dreamcasts anymore, and for reasons only god knows, the Playstation 2 and XBOX versions were produced in limited quantities. Still, these flaws can ultimately be neglected. For everything this game does wrong, there are about ten things it does right.

My final verdict is simple. If you like Capcom's fighting games, this is a must-buy. It's my favorite fighting game of all time, and you'd be a fool not to buy it if you're into the genre. Capcom knows good fighting games, and this is as good as they come. It's tough to find due to the poor distribution, but trust me - it's worth hunting down.

4-0 out of 5 stars 56 characters that you can select to fight

Yes this game has 56 characters that you can completely control.

Unlike part 1 where there were special characters that can only help you, but not fight for you. In this part 2, you can completely control everyone.

I am rating this game 4 stars rather than 5, because there is one very annoying factor: In order to unlock the secret fighters, you have to play the game for MANY, MANY hours in order to earn points. You use the points as money to unlock the secret fighters.

Marvel V.s Capcom is the dreadest game after the first Marvel vs Capcom. There are endless possibilities cool combos and stuff.
I've played with nerly every game you can think of, but my best team might be Guile,CharlieWith over 56 pleyers to play with, who can blame me? This is a must get for all true believers!

P.S I also like to play with Hayato, and Silver Samurai (did I spell it right?) and Venom not to mention Wolverine! So this is beyond repair over and [...] ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the reason I got a SNES
This is by far my favorite game of all time, I go though and beat it about once every half of a year, I love this game so much. It is about Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo out to save the world from the even doings of Gigus, were you can lear psychic powers and stuff. This is an awesome age I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars EarthBound, The Most Underated RPG To Date and the best game
EarthBound is easily my favorite game. But lets get of my life story and talk about why this game is so under-rated. EarthBound is underrated because it was released in the time when Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy III, The three Kings of the SNES RPGs and when it released RPG gamers just whiffed EarthBound off like that thus nintendo lost a lot of money due to low sales on the game making hard to find like Harvest Moon and Mario RPG. Now thats the history part of the review. Now lets hear why this is my favorite game. First of the controls are simple and you pick them up really fast, the battle system seems similar to Dragon Warrior and Xenosaga, The graphics pretty good but they're no FF3, The sound effects are kinda forgetable but the music is amazing and something you'll remember for a long time (my favorite is the hippie battle music), for an RPG it has a high replay value. Earthbound is one of the best RPGs I've ever played (next to Chrono Trigger,Xenosaga,EarthBound Zero, and Final Fantasy X)and it's my favorite game. I'd give it a 10 out of 10.

5-0 out of 5 stars This game is sooooo Great!
I've beaten it and loved it all the way through! Its awesome, you start in a small town and you have to go through it fighting The sharks(the local gang)Stray dogs, crows that drop cookies,Ants and slugs! And all this is done with suff you can go to the local stores and get! No not potions but more like Hamburgers and BaseBall bats!

Okay there is an evil alien that takes over the world ten years in the future from the time your in,A metorite hits your town A Bee flies off of it and tells you your the chosen one and you must Go to eight sanctuary spots around the world. Then you chanel your power with the earth then beat Guigas! It's very Fun! ... Read more

The single player mode is kind of random....but once you get the hang of moving around it can be fun to play with your friends.

1-0 out of 5 stars What Is This?
I think after buying this, my wallet is Forsaken... I am Mistaken that this game is what I bought, it came in a box called Forsaken, I played this game about 3 times before giving it up cause I couldnt control the characters or understand the plot line.I know that I have skills... but this game made me look stupid.Cut your losses and buy something else like Quake II... now that rocks.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!!
It is very stupid! It is confusing,And instead of moving around with the Joystick, you move with the A button! It is SO sensitive, that by the time you get your cross hairs for your Plasma Blaster thing on the enemy,The robot enemy had already got about 10 hits on you!If you are into Mutiplayers, don't buy this either!Me and my dad played Multiplayer and after 5 minutes we still couldn't find each other(Because of no radar) so we got bored of it and turned it off.The enemies blend in with the dark backround too,so you can't see them.Do NOT(!!!!) buy this game! ...
