The Powerpuff Girls - Powerpuff Bluff Average Customer Review: DVD (07 November, 2000) list price: $14.98 -- our price: $13.48 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review This DVD compiles two previous VHS collections. Bubblevicious Monkey See, Doggie Do Features Reviews (23)
The DVD itself could use a lot of work, though. First, the episodes seem to have no unifying element--they're just sort of randomly lumped together. This makes it difficult to choose which PPG DVD to buy. Unles you're going to collect them all, you just have to pick one and hope for the best. Second, the features are really disappointing, as in almost nonexistent. There aren't even any subtitle or language choices--strangely, there is a language feature, but if you click on it, you find that the only choice is 2-channel English! What about Spanish, at least? And it's nice to be able to turn on English subtitles. My kids have English as a second language, and being able to read while listening helps them. (Heck, even native speakers could use subtitles to help them understand Bubbles when she's really angry.) And what about people with hearing trouble? It's funny that, on the back of the box, one of the "Super Special Features Inside!" is "WATCH...your favorite Powerpuff Girls episodes!" Hey, since when is watching the episodes a *special* feature? There are no scenes marked within an episode. Granted, PPG episodes are quite short, but why can't we at least skip past the titles? Instead, we have to fast forward. The PC features--well, maybe they are fun, but I couldn't get them to work. I guess it might be my machine, but I kind of doubt it. I'm not dissing the Powerpuff Girls--they're great. But the people who made the DVD have a lot to learn, and we shouldn't hesitate to call them on that.

The Powerpuff Girls - Meet The Beat-Alls Director: Robert Renzetti, Craig McCracken, Robert Alvarez (II), Genndy Tartakovsky, John McIntyre, Randy Myers, Lauren Faust Average Customer Review: DVD (11 December, 2001) list price: $9.97 -- our price: $9.97 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Townsville's cutest cops curb a brutish invasion by a new breedof mop tops in Meet the Beat-Alls, a Powerpuff caper so packedwith sly Beatles references it could sink a yellow submarine. Forgetthe under-15-minute running time--here, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Blossomface the longest and windingest road of their crime-fighting careers,as Mojo Jojo, Him, Princess, and Fuzzy Lumpkins band together to becomethe Beat-Alls--the Bad Four--a collective that soars to the poleposition on the most-wanted charts, sending girls screaming. When thepolice cry out for help--they need somebody--the girls gather theirgumption and go forward with a plan to break up the Beat-Alls: Theyenlist Moko, a white-costumed monkey with seductive Asian flair, topose as a performance criminal. Fellow simian Mojo Jojo, who thought hewas a loner, goes bananas; soon the other Beat-Alls beat it and thegirls bust in and break the news that Mojo's going nowhere, man. Allthat spoofing doesn't sap the Powerpuffs of their superheroine steam:In "Bought & Scold" they square off against Princess, whose daddythrows down the cash to crown her mayor; in "Bubblevision" they're asight for sore eyes, even though one of them looks dorky in her newglasses, as a giant ant rips through town; "Jewel of the Aisle" findsthem firing away at a gem thief posing as cereal hero Lucky CaptainRabbit King; and demented lout Lenny's plan to possess the Powerpuffscomes crashing down in "Collect Her." If you're old enough to get thegags, allow the title episode to edge out other potential Powerpuffpurchases, it's that clever. Otherwise, whatever propels you, restassured that not one of these episodes will let you down or leave youflat. For children ages 7 and up. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more Features Reviews (12)
"Bought And Scold" has Princess Morebucks having her father buy her Townsville. Once becoming mayor, the Princess makes crime legal, to the chagrin of the Powerpuff Girls, who become unemployed, so to speak. Quick, what's that saying, "hoist by her own petard"? Or is it she who lives by the decree... whatever. (Rating: 4) "Bubblevision" has Bubbles having eye trouble and having to wear glasses. Unfortunately, Blossom and Buttercup laugh and make fun of her. Crimony, stop picking on Bubbles, girls! Pop culture reference: giant ants and the Blondie song "Attack Of The Giant Ants." (Rating: 5) Inbetween are a few goodies, such as a brief clip of Mojo on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, the Apples of Stereo video of "Signal In The Sky," featuring the Fish Balloon from "Uh Oh Dynamo," and a brief look at the making of the Powerpuff Girls movie with creator Craig McCracken and the talented ladies who do the Powerpuff voices. Cavadini, Strong, and Daily, keep it up! (Rating: 4) "Jewel Of The Aisle" involves a thief who steals a jewel which he accidentally drops in a factory manufacturing Lucky Cap'n Rabbit King Nuggets, which are a cross between Trix and Captain Crunch. Guess who buys the cereal? There's an obvious reference to the Trix rabbit and the thief's failed attempts to get it is reminiscent of Warner Brothers cartoons. (Rating: 3.5) "Collect Her" is an unpleasant piece of work about Lenny, an obsessed Powerpuff Girls memorabilia collector who discovers to his horror that his collection is--(gasp!) complete. What else is there to collect? I say unpleasant because of what some fan obsessions can lead to: can anyone say John Lennon or Rebecca Schaeffer? (Rating: 2) The Time Squad bonus cartoon involves going back in time to help out Lincoln, who, fed up with being dubbed Honest Abe, becomes a jerk bent on playing practical jokes on people. Including these other cartoons is reminiscent of the B-feature after the A-picture done back in the 1930's. (Rating: 3) Overall rating: (5+4+5+4+3.5+3+2+3)/8=3.6875, rounded up to 4.

Well, this boy in class, Elmer eats paste & these bullys like Mitch, Buttercup, & these 2 weird twins laugh at him 4 being a paste eater. Buttercup throws paste all over the table by saying: "Eat this, paste eata!" And when Elmer eats toxic with a bug, he turns into a man monster. Elmer puts paste all over Townsville, & it's surprising that the Mayor dosen't say anything! Idiot! Blossom & Buttercup get absorbed, & Buttercup says "I'mmmmmmm SOA-AAAARRRRR-REEEEY!!!!!!!!!!!" And Elmer says she's cool now. (5 stars) 4th is School House Rocked. Well, the Gangreene Gang go 2 school, Mr. Wednesday wanted them 2. That man sounds soo boring. But, I T loves this episode. O, the begenning wuz kool when Ace & Snakey was playin a Powerpuff game with Bubbles vs. Fuzzy Lumpkins. Why didn't he give the Powerpuffs mean presents in Birthday Bash? PowerPuff Girls: Mojo Jojo's Pet Project Average Customer Review: CD-ROM (25 October, 2001) list price: $19.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Mojo Jojo's latest plan to take over Townsville is thoroughly fiendish. Using a chemical spray known as Mutato, he has transformed all the town's creatures--from icky bugs to cuddly kittens--into large and dangerous monsters. It's up to players to help the Powerpuff Girls defeat the mutant menace before it gets out of control. In Powerpuff Girls: Mojo Jojo's Pet Project, girls get to play superhero by rescuing endangered animals. The core of this game is composed of arcade-style games: players rescue fish from Mutato pollution, save pet-store escapees as they fall from a tall building, and eventually fight Mojo Jojo himself. That's not the end of the fun, though. When a gigantic, laser-wielding squirrel breaks the villain out of prison, the young heroines must go head-to-head with one dangerous rodent. As arcade games go, Mojo Jojo's Pet Project offers less variety than some players may like. Most of the activities are a simple matter of evading dangerous objects while rescuing the innocent animal victims of Mojo Jojo's perfidy. Later games bring combat into the mix, requiring the girls to punch out their antagonists, but the formula is the same. Bad things move toward your character, and it's up to you to get her out of the way. The lack of variation is the single fault to be found with this game, though. It runs smoothly, gets harder on schedule, and provides lots of humor and excitement for Powerpuff fans. As a bonus, girls who are tired of the endless hunt-and-chase can find other sources of entertainment in this game. Mojo Jojo's Pet Project contains some minor, low-key activities such as a matching game and printer-based design projects, good choices for girls who like to move between fast-paced action and point-and-click mellowing out. Even so, the point of this game is to rescue Townsville, and girls who want to play should definitely be ready to unleash their special powers in the name of justice. --Alyx Dellamonica ... Powerpuff Girls 1: Bad Mojo Jojo Average Customer Review: Game Cartridge (11 November, 2000) list price: $29.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review The slogan on the box says, "Powerpuff Girls are saving the world beforebedtime." Bad Mojo Jojo's repetitive gameplay, however, will put somegamers to sleep well before that time. Based on the Cartoon Network series, this title spotlights Blossom, thepink-clad leader of the Powerpuff Girls. The dilemma facing the girls at the start ofthe game is that Mojo Jojo has kidnapped the girls' mentor, Professor Utonium.Blossom must battle Bratty Little Princess, Roach Coach, and eventually MojoJojo himself (hence the game's name) to save the brave professor. The idea behind the game is to run or fly around the professor's home and lab, collecting all the goodies that the various robbers dropped in their hastyransacking of the place. The items consist of treasure, special graphic cards ofBlossom & Co., and health power-ups. Some simple puzzle solving is required to finish this game, but that reallytakes second fiddle to honing one's exploration skills and reaction timing. Evenwithout reading the manual--and who does nowadays?--most will quickly figure outwhere they're going and what they've got to do. If this series has a singular hook, it is that all three of the girls' games canbe linked though the GBC's vastly underutilized infrared port. Whatever iscollected in one cartridge can be sent over to another. In this way, players whowork together can more quickly gather all the cool collectibles in the game andget further ahead in less time. It's too bad the makers didn't spend a littlemore time putting a game together that was stylish to look at and engaging toplay. --Todd Mowatt Pros:
Reviews (15)
Gameplay stinks, too. The characters' attacks are monotonous, and the game consists entirely of exploring flat, side-scrolling locations and beating up bad guys. You're also supposed to pick up items along the way, but those are mostly pointless. I'm a diehard Powerpuff fan, but I can't recommend this game. It's too bad -- the Powerpuff Girls are among the few GBC games that would have strong appeal to young girls, and the designers disrespect them with this crummy game.

The graphics, presented in an overhead 3D adventure-type view of the battle arena, are fairly good. The intro movie is excellent.Powerpuff Girls fans will especially enjoy seeing the show's intro in 3D animation..Overall, things are nice and colorful and do a good job of creating an atmosphere similar to the show..The sound is also good, although some more soundbytes from the characters or the show would have been nice. The controls are fairly simple, albeit somewhat sluggish. In fact, my first impression with the game was that it was quite slow. However, as you get into the game a little more, the pace seems to be just about right for the gameplay style...Still, it can be a bit tedious at times... As for difficulty and longevity..There are several villains and arenas to unlock by playing through the story mode with each Powerpuff Girl. These can also be unlocked with passwords that can be found online.Normally, the ability to unlock secrets would add to the longevity of the game, but there aren't many villains to defeat, and the game can be finished fairly quickly...I beat this game and unlocked all of the secrets the first night I played it...That's not to say it's easy...it's actually fairly difficult even on "easy" mode, probably to the point that it would frustrate some of the younger fans of the show. However, with so few battles to win, it becomes a matter of persistance rather than skill...fighting each villain over and over until you defeat them. After you beat the game, there's not much point to doing it again. Then it comes down to the simulator mode, a one or two player single battle game that becomes very tedious after about a day.In other words, it's very likely to become one of those games that sits on a shelf indefinitely after playing it for a day or two... Well, the bottom line is that it's fun for a while. It's definitely not an outstanding game.It IS somewhat violent..but those of you complaining about the violence might want to try watching an actual episode of the cartoon..If you're a big fan of the Powerpuff Girls, it's probably worth buying just to dust off every once in a while, watch the intro movie, and play a bit..For anyone else, I'd say it deserves a rental, but you'll find that even the rental period will probably outlast the enjoyment you'll get from the game... ... Powerpuff Girls Power Pack (Bubblevicious/Birthday Bash/Boogie Frights) Average Customer Review: VHS Tape (11 September, 2001) list price: $30.92 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (1)
Birthday Bash:consists of five cartoons:Birthday Bash, Beat Your Greens, Paste Makes Waste, School House Rocked, and Los Dos Mojos, plus a Cowardly Dog cartoon. The trio face their archenemy Mojo Jojo twice. The Powerpuffs foil attempt after attempt by their jailed foes to sabotage their birthday party."Beat Your Greens" is my favorite, as it shows a creative way for kids to eat their vegetables. As it involves broccoli, maybe President Bush Sr. should be watching this."Los Dos Mojos"--What's more menacing than Mojo?Bubbles thinking she's Mojo after a nasty knock on the head."Paste Makes Waste" has a gag from Ghostbusters plus the importance of not picking on others. The Gangreen Gang is so odious, I could not wait for them to get their comeuppance in "School House Rocked," which has a playful swipe at Dragnet.Heck, at least Mojo's got somewhat of a fun personality. Bubblevicious:consists of five cartoons, Cat Man Do, Uh-Oh...Dynamo, Mr. Mojo's Rising, Powerpuff Bluff, and Bubblevicious."Cat Man Do" is an interesting flip on Blofeld, the recurring villain in James Bond.A giant robotic Powerpuff helps the girls against a giant sea monster in "Dynamo."Bubblevicious is by far the best here, as the timid Bubbles proves she can be just as hardcore as her sisters."Mr. Mojo's Rising" goes back to the origin of the girls and Mojo, which was summarized in the beginning of this year's movie.Powerpuff Bluff is the weakest of the bunch, of a trio of burglars impersonating the girls.Uh-huh.Riiiiight. Boogie Frights:consists of five cartoons:Boogie Frights, Slumbering With The Enemy, Ice Sore, Rowdyruff Boys, and Helter Shelter, as well as the Shonen Knife video from the Heroes And Villains CD and a Courage The Cowardly Dog bonus cartoon. If the Boogie Man has his way, it'll be night and disco music forever. The girls save the day, in a hilarious parody of Star Wars.A disguised Mojo infiltrates the PPG's slumber party in "Slumbering With The Enemy," with apparently no bad intentions.Key word:apparently."Ice Sore" introduces Blossom's ice powers, which gain the enmity of her sisters, but which saves the day during a heat wave.Snips, snails, puppy dog tails, plus toilet sewage = the Rowdyruff Boys, and this episode features their most challenging adversaries.Helter Shelter finds Bubbles caring a lot for animals, with funny results.I fully support what she does in the very end. So, having had a crash course in CSER 255 (Cartoon Series) I rate the Powerpuff Girls highly. Some pop culture references may be lost on the younger tykes but may elicit chuckles from older viewers. And what's with the mayor's secretary, whose face we never see?Favorite Powerpuff:it's a toss-up between Blossom and Bubbles.Favorite villain:Mojo.Favorite stories:"Bubblevicious," "Beat Your Greens," and "Rowdyruff Boys." These cartoons are better representatives of the series than the feature length movie.Ten or so minutes is the appropriate length for a Powerpuff cartoon.A half-hour special is probably the maximum. So, for a stimulating dose of sugar, spice, and everything nice, check out the Powerpuff Girls, whether or not it is your bedtime. ... Power Puff Girls Game Average Customer Review: Toy US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Reviews (14)
While the characters are competing, they sometimes work together and at times you can move other players pieces to their disadvantage. You get to pick five cards but only play two per round, sometimes you roll one die -- sometimes all three, sometimes a round is over immediately if all three PP Girls get knocked out -- sometimes it drags on indefinitely. My four year old didn't get it, my 12 year old thought it was boring and we all gave up halfway through.Never again.
Naturally, my girls (6 and 8) love it. They will often play together and don't need our help (except to breakup the occasional fight that sisters will have). My 14 year old son will even play it with us from time to time! There are several educational aspects that come to mind. First, rolling dice and counting are important basic skills.
