1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid EA and their greed.
The game itself is good, but not all that different from the last Battlefield game. It's essentially the same game in a futuristic setting. EA wants you to pay $50 for a rehashed game loaded with in-game ads and spyware? How about passing some of that advertising money along to the consumer instead of charging $50 for a polished up version of one of your old games?

1-0 out of 5 stars Adware, It's In The Game!
Alright... We've heard a LOT about viruses and the like...A lot of the stuff being said is inaccurate,But the crux of the matter is that 2142 IS adware.
1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING - Spyware and Adware
Absolutely the worst idea in years. Not only are you paying a premium price for this but they are adding mandatory advertisements in game as well as installing internet monitoring spyware on your computer. Of course there is NO warning on the box and only after you have opened it does the piece of paper telling you about it come to light. I returned my copy and refuse to support this out right attempt at invasive spyware. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bought the chest to play Dota.
One day I was hanging out with my friends, and I saw them playing Warcraft Dota Map on Battlenet.I had so much fun watching them play that I told myself I have to get into the action.Spent less than $30 to buy the chest on Amazon.Got it within a few days with free shipping. In my opinion, nowadays $30 can't even get you a full tank of gas anymore. This chest provides me with hours of entertainment with my friends, all for less than $30!!I think getting it is a no brainer and a bargain. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good first version
The game play is pretty good. The graphics are workable. It is a little too easy on the easy level. It does well accessing the Star Wars world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Empire at War
The graphics leave a little to be desired, but overall the game is fun to play.My kids really get into the battles.

4-0 out of 5 stars This game is fun, but still has severe bugs after 5 patches.
I love the graphics and gameplay in Star Wars, Empire at War.The space battles are geat and there is plenty of strategy.Beware, however, that this game has SEVERE bugs.It will crash randomly to the dektop, and freeze to make you restart your computer. You may not be able to complete the campaign because of the bugs and glitches. This already has 5 patches, but they only introduce new issues.BUT, this game is still worth it in my opinion, because it is so fun and strategic. You will have to make that decision for yourself. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars 75 out of a 100 Due to mechanicle and AI flaws.
To begin with, this game has some excellent potential which the right patches could easily fix. The first is the AI, both friendly and hostile. First off the AI is much too hard on easy settings. For instance, even on Medium, it is quite possible to get swarmed by the AI five minutes into the game. Seriously, as the Goblins for instance, by the time I got a single Cave, and Mine up and running, with two groups built, I find myself fighting off six to seven groups of enemies, who are followed by back up.
4-0 out of 5 stars crazy sweet game
This game rocks! It's got some major pros but it also has a small amount of cons. I'm a big fan of RTS games, like the age of empires series. This game has all the awsome traits of most great RTS games, but it adds a whole other level of gameplay from the lord of the rings additions. It has all the major factions, men, elves, dwarves, mordor, isengard, and the goblins. The men are basically rohan and gondor combined. i havent played as them other than the tutoriul so i dont know a lot about them. the elves rock out loud as archers (plus they have ents) and they have fair swordsman. the dwarves are definitly close range and seige, they dont even have calvary.
4-0 out of 5 stars pretty good game really
the bad. the races are so unmatched!the dwarfs have these catupults that kill all, the goblins can climb over walls(elimanating the point of having them)and the ura kai kill anything in there path (with the exception of horseman) and if the battle is even (1 v 1) the one with the better race wins with the exceptions of castles.now it is pretty fair in the natoriusly short campaine.but in skirmish mode its only fair if its plains and your the same race, or if the weak race starts in a castle.the good.the game is very realistic such as if horse man go up against pikeman head on there doomed but if they go to the side before the pikeman can turn, the pikeman are as good as gone

5-0 out of 5 stars Very fun, enjoyable, and excellentvalue

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and... FREE (no monthly cost that is :P)
Last year's game that combined most of the best aspects of online role-playing (without any monthly fees attached), action role-playing games, and competitive gaming in general is back in a similarly huge and interestingly complex follow-up. While Guild Wars Factions is inherently similar to its predecessor, and saddled with some of the same relatively minor shortcomings, it still delivers a deep, addictive, and satisfying experience on many levels. The game is ultimately best suited for social, competitive players (like fans of the original), but it effectively weaves together solo, cooperative, and competitive content in a way that's undeniably impressive.
4-0 out of 5 stars Factions is great -- and a good replacement for WoW
Here's the thing. I enjoy a game I can play solo--with occasional (emphasis on OCCASIONAL!) group questing and activities.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent game!
I won't go into a lot of detail because most have described the game enough. But just wanted to say this is an excellent game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vici!
Totally awesome! I've gotten so good at this game that I totally know that if I'd been with Publius Quinctilius Varus when he was messing around in that forest, he'd be going, like, "Dude - thanks for saving my, like, butticus!" And then his boss, Augustus, would have been totally saying, like, "Dude, Varus - where is my reefer?"

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Game - Campaign is a bit long
Overall, Rome Total War rocks. I'm a big Civ fan but I also like to play Warcraft. Rome Total War combines these well. The only negative is the campaign game takes a really long time (30+ hours) to play.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rome total war
Son loves game. He had it before but since it has multiple disc's (one broke) we had to reorder entire set. It is a strategy game and teaches him alot about Roman history. If one disc breaks entire game is no good. So keep them safe- we learned the hard way. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Game is way too slow with addition of 3D views
argh... I love HOMM series and played every one of them. Also played the entire series of Age of Wonders.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Game But Also Hard
Heroes 5 is defintaly a fun game but it is really hard, i was on the last level for the first campiangn (sorry about the spelling) and i was at the last level and i could never beat it i thought about selling the game but i downloaded patch 1.1 it has a easy mode but it was still kinda hard but i beat the level :) The graphics would be a 4 out of 5 because it does have great graphics but when characters talk most of the time you never see there mouth move. The music is really good, and i hope this helped people out. Overall this game is really good (YAY!!! i'm on the second campiang on the second last level!!!! :)YAY)

3-0 out of 5 stars Hard to enjoy
Darn, another great attempt to build from the beauty of HOMM 3, which was the best of the classic turn based adventure games. While I loved the colorful landscapes and 3D animation, I expereinced similar difficulty with the interface described by others. The game would lag significantly, especially when zooming. Also, sometimes, I couldn't get a path on open terrain (e.g. in an underground cavern), based on the view.Clicking on open ground wasn't enough, I would have to spin the camera angle until it would allow me to finally set the path. . . really frustrating. All of the animations and graphics are great, but these other issues take away from the enjoyment of the game. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Its still fun
I liked this expansion to the original DOW.It was more of the same and since I liked the original game I knew I would like this expansion.I felt it was overpriced for an expansion pack that was on the short side for the single player campaign. Some of the criticism I see here on the Amazon page is justified.I felt the story was well thought out and the voices were beliveable. The graphics and sound were the same as DOW.I saw where some one said the Imperial Guard should have AT weapons, they do its the rocket launchers. It is true the scenarios feel a bit rushed, as if you do not have enough time to really think about your strategy. The problems is I think that is a fair criticism of all RTS games.Once again when installing the game the software secretly tells my firewall to let the game phone home, a very annoying feature.

1-0 out of 5 stars A distinct disappointment
Pros:
2-0 out of 5 stars awful campaign mode
Why does relic spend so much effort and money developing such a sophisticated and exciting RTS platform and then give it a campaign mode that is just a confusing goatf$#k of massed enemies and nonsensical storylines? The game was designed to reward subtly matching unit types to enemy strategies, but the campaign mode is just a wave after wave of mixed units that must be endured with no time or even need to plan a defense.I feel like I've been given a set of surgical tools and then told I have 10 minutes to cut dow a tree with them; the sophistication of the tools makes the brutish nature of the task all the more frustrating.Bad, bad job relic. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Very Disapointing
Very disappointing!I bought the first Black and White for $50.00. There was no way for me to know that it was not compatible with Windows XP. I was so ecstatic to find the new Black & White 2 on sale. I popped it in and started with a sense of wonder. It was frustrating and took some time to get used to the controls, but I got past that after reviewing the tutorial. As I progress into the game I have become more disillusioned. It seems that the "evil devil" guy talks a lot more than the "guru monk good guy". Often the little stupid guru guy just kinda shrugs, while the devil guy tells you all kinds of things about warfare and exploration. Because I came into this with no experience, I thought it would be an equal thing between them. Obviously the little devil guy has most of the understanding, and so you end up doing his will. I really wanted to build a beautiful city of peaceful people, but so far, no matter how hard I try to be good, little messages show up saying "evil" when I do something. What a disappointment. I would not recommend this game to anyone who has children. The intent seems to be that no matter what you do, you are inertly evil. When children continually get that message, they will start to think of themselves as evil, and then fulfill that. Very BAD, single minded guys who created this bullsh_t. Also, even when you are working as hard as you can, you will get messages that the people are very unhappy. Very soon everything goes downhill. If you really want to make this work out for good, you have to continually save the game before you are damned to be evil. If you want a game that will easily make you an "EVIL GOD", you have the right one!

3-0 out of 5 stars black & white 2
its an interesting stratergy game but there are several things i hate in the controls and the ai is not as good as some games i have played

5-0 out of 5 stars play it a few times before reviewing
plz stop doing reviews over how bad it is with to few options, cuz it just simply isn't that way. Yo can fire flaming people with catapults and or let you creature throw a flaming guy in the middle of an army so the middle of the army willl be on fire. You just need to be creative. Think like what will happen if I teach my creatureto pick up a army guy set him on fire and than throw in the middle of a thightly builded city. This game has many options, but you'll have to create these options.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well deserves the title
A truly a remarkable game. The voice acting, game play, graphics, I give 5 stars on all. Once I started I couldn't stop playing. I felt like watching and playing the movie at the same time. Truly an amazing game. Must have for any RPG and Tolkien's fans out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best $15 he's spent lately
My son loves this game and it's a nice way to introduce him to online playing.Have had to reboot before he plays or sometimes he locks up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good game with Caveats
This will be a scanty review but I wish to comment on something that is most important, at least to me. Yes, this game does a lot of things right...great graphics, sound and music, playability, etc.But realize that the game is of the real-time strategy genre--where you have to collect resources and build things which make other things.Once you build those things (fighting units), you have to send them off to demolish what the computer player (or human player) has created. So, it's definitely a game where logistics come into play and you are required to point and click constantly. So, make sure you like that kind of game.If you do, and you like the LOTR theme, you will like this game. One thing I don't like though--it's completely unrealistic and annoying, is how catapults are way to powerful in this game. The computer will build lots of them, and I mean almost total catapult armies and things will get difficult for you.In this game catapults move fairly fast and can receive more damage than they should, so you will discover that destroying catapult factories is your best bet.In my opinion, the catapult imbalance somewhat ruins the game. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely AWESOME!!!
I got this as a last-day-of-summer-school gift, and it is just so amazing! You make an army, grow resources, worship a god, pretect your city, make allies and enemies, etc. This is so amazing, the only thing you'll regret related to this is not getting it!

4-0 out of 5 stars The RTS "artform" gains momentum
First off, a caveat; I just bought this game a couple of days ago, and so far have only played around five hours. So, rather than wait a goodly while until I am able to finish the single player campaign (my gaming time is limited), I'll write of my first impressions and the general feeling I am getting.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Game Marred by Online Competition Phantoms
I first downloaded the trial edition of this sequel, "Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends."I recommend the trial edition to everyone who enjoys fantasy toys and games. The trial edition is phenomenal, and it costs nothing to download but a little time.It lets people play against the computer/artificial intelligence players, which are very competitive with a lot of level settings, to make the educational part bearable.Even if I hadn't bought this game, I'm still glad I downloaded and played the free trial edition. It made me want to keep playing the game.It just did the right things. It did things so well, it aroused my curiosity to buy the game. So, I bought the game.I like it, a lot. It's so cool.I don't want to spoil the game, but it has cool-looking dragons. Before going online with the game, I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to get wiped out right away, so I practiced, practiced, and practiced until I could beat the A.I. players (the "artificial intelligence" players) on the hardest setting, alas not every time.My point is that I got pretty good.Well, I then went online.Needless to say, I still got my butt kicked pretty good. However, now I've played human opponents many times and I have over 2000 experience points, altogether. That means I'm not the best, but I'm worth playing even if my opponent is very good. Now I'm on level five for 1-on-1 play, and level eight for multi-player.My win ratio is over 30%.Setting aside my laurels for a moment, the problem with all of this almost-too-good-to-be-true thing is I still play guys who LIE ABOUT THEIR LEVELS.I'll open up for a match by looking at the statistics of my opponents.I've played quite a few "beginners" at level one, a few of them with "zero experience points," yet how can I lose to them?Is it their first time playing?I have experience.I know what I'm doing. Some guy logs in for the "first time" and beats a somewhat experienced intermediate like me?Impossible; or, at least, the odds of that happening are less than two percent possible. So, why, then, does this happen regularly?I just imagined an explanation: people lie.MicroSoft, the distributor of this game, can show people why they should buy this game, they run an online mode, but they don't really do enough to stop cheaters who fake new identities.Maybe this is okay to MicroSoft. It's not, however, acceptable to me.But, what can I do?Complain.Well, that is what I do.What is the point of character statistics that are used to pair fitting players against each other, if it's actually not going to be fitting? When a player gets good, he runs out of people who would be a fair match for him.Multiple identities ought to be barred.Unlike other online computer games, this game has about 50 players online. That's a very small number. To retrospectively measure this amount, "Battlefield 2" commonly has over 25,000 players. The reason "Rise of Legends" has only a few online players is because no one trusts this game for fairness. The statistics have absolutely NO CREDIBILITY.MicroSoft should enforce a policy, but the people at MicroSoft either can't figure it out or decided to do nothing. They just want to sell an online computer product, but never have to think about its online modes. The results are mis-matched competitions. This hurts the game when people log in to play a friendly match and get beat by the "General Pattons" without even a chance to get going into a match. In the automated pairing, my level five character gets paired with someone who's level 27.I'd rather play online against the A.I. players because getting wiped out by a level 27 is not surprising to me, but what is surprising is that anyone would consider the online modes as fun.I actually log in, online, only to wind up preferring A.I. players because I don't trust other players for fairness. This is because identities and stats mean nothing.MicroSoft, get your thinking caps on.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sound issues? There is on my computer.
After playing both rise of nations and the expansion thrones and patriots, I was a little sceptical because Before I bought the game I had learned that now instead of the normal rise through the ages of real life history untill modern days, they went for the magic vs technology, I was somewhat unsure if I'd like the game. But after witnessing the game first hand I was very impressed. The game has good graphics and awsome gameplay the only trouble I had with it is all I could here in the game was the music, voiceovers, and when you click on a unit or building they make some noise, I couldn't hear for example the gun shots, the noises the buildings make without clicking on tnem, or the foot noises that the huge units make when they walk. But the thing is I doubt that it was the game that was the problem I thoght it was just my speakers because I could hear thing slightly when I zoomed in on the unit or buildings I figured that I was having problems with the sound because I had surrond sound speakers so it was screwing with the noises on the map there shouldn't be a problem my sound card is more than adequate. But I never had any problems with other RTS games, anyway I dont know why its doing I'm not a computer Genius, But regardless of the sound on my computer it dosn't bother me that much so I guess I'll just have to live with it, but overall a very good Game. And for all the people who complain about games that have good graphics not having good grapics its not only the game people ITS YOUR COMPUTER! have you ever thought that it might be your computer that sucks, I'll tell you one thing I may not be a computer wiz but you want a computer the over exceeds the games requirements it will make for a better time, you should have smooth running game without any problems. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great RTS with LOTS of action.
True to the Warhammer 40K universe, this game puts you right in the middle of a war on the planet Tartarus for the souls of every man and woman on the planet. The forces of Chaos have hatched a diabolical scheme to free a foul daemon from its prison and cast its evil shadow on the universe. The Space Marins, Blood Ravens unit, must battle to stop them. Fight a WAAGHG! army of Orks as well as the crafty Eldar as you unfold the great story of those oh to short RTS.A must play.

3-0 out of 5 stars Half a game, not bad.
The single user game is way too short, I have not seen a large number of game editsd out there to create original fan content, the online community is a little anemic, and the online multiplayer tends to have 'issues'.
5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely fun and immersive game!
I played the demo of Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War perhaps 6 months before I was able to purchase the full version... After I got the full version, this game simply went to the top 5 of my RTS games.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Strategy Game Ever!!
I bought this a month ago and I still haven't stopped playing it.I would definitely recommend this game to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Very Best....
Warcraft 3 is a terrific game.I could waste your time telling you that the 3d graphics are still good even after being out for so long.It has a good story that makes you want to play (unlike recent Command and Conquer games). When there's also twice as many races from that of Warcraft2 as well as the addition of Hero units you get a nifty game. Then pick up the expansion set. Then go and play it online you will not be dissapointed ... 5-0 out of 5 stars StarCraft:A Classic
Wow, I wasn't really sure what to expect when I bought this game!I had only played once before at a friend's house, and thought, "Oh sure, it's fun, I guess."But after buying this from Amazon, I had yet to discover the fulness of the game!As old as it may be, I discovered how many people still go online to play the game! That alone is proof of how good a game this is.Creating armies to conquer the battlefield, using great strategy along the way, this game really gets you thinking, too!I absolutely love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Blizzard gets the formula right!
Hailed by critics as merely "Warcraft in Space" back when it was released, Blizzard Entertainment's gem is a standard by which all strategy games are now judged. There are 3 playable races to choose from, the xenomorphic alien Zergs, the highly evolved technological Protoss, and the resourceful Terrans. The races are meticulously balanced, and all of them are unique in every sense of the word. The strategies you must devise to win have to be drastically different based on the race you play with, there is no single formula for success, you have to utilize your races' strengths and cover up your weaknesses against your enemy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best
This game is the ultimate in RTS.All of the new RTS games focus on beautiful graphics and cool cut scenes. But after all these years, Starcraft still remains the most refined RTS with the best balance and gameplay you can imagine. If you're a RTS game fan, then you already know how great this game is.If you're not an RTS game fan, then get this game and see the light! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great addition to a genre that is underrepresented
Sure glad I bought the game prior to reading the customer reviews. I did not find this game buggy at all; it runs beautifully on my LAPTOP which is quite new and built to handle demanding games. The game ran in the default resolution set for my computer. It is important to caution prospective buyers to pay serious attention to the game specs. This will not run unless your graphics card - and drivers - are up to date. Also - there are patches, one of which is supposed to address the joystick problems.
1-0 out of 5 stars Problem with using joysticks
If you intend to use a joystick with this game please go to the Darkstar One website and look in their forums for all of the complaints about joysticks not operating correctly before you spend your money. The main problem is that the axis are reversed (and cannot be un-reversed) which (at least for me) renders that game unplayable. If you use a keyboard for flight/space sims the game should be playable. This is another example of an unfinished product being rushed to market with major issues still unresolved.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bug Ridden POS
It looks like this game will be GREAT...in a few months when they fix the MANY bugs...It won't work in any resolution except 1024x768, Frame rate slow downs, CTDs, Joystick Problems...and yes I did install the 1.2 beta patch.Wait for the bargain bin for this one. ... Read more
